I came up with an idea the other day titled "Rumspringa".
In the outskirts of where I live, there are small farm based communities of the Amish. If you want to see their stereotype, then checkout Kingpin or that shitty Tim Allen movie.
Anyways, the Amish have this period called "Rumspringa". What they do is they invite their mature ones to seek out away from the oppressive family religion lifestyle and give pop culture a try. They leave, go out and "sew their oats" almost in Eddie Murphy coming to America fashion.
My idea followed with the thought of a small band of Amish youngsters moving into the city (Canton, or downtown Columbus), and taking their parents money and putting it all together for a shitty sleeping apartment that's just big enough for them all to sleep and wash, and the place is so run down that they don't have to use any form of identification.
From here, the conflict is in one of the males, who uses his Rumspringa for murder. He murders almost every other Amish person that traveled with them to the city, even the one that decided to have sex with him (for the first time, too! He slaughters her and leaves her in the tub to rot. The one that escapes was only because it didn't take him long to say fuck the Amish, he's got a job in the city doing construction so he moves out)
So you've got this killer, and detectives on the case. Unfortunately, this Amish boy has never had his fingerprints registered, so DNA is not a matter. They are so far into the city that even the thought of him being an Amishman is not considered.
I thought of a strong metaphor, and that being a pie that his mother baked him. After he starts killing and having sex, he eats more and more of the pie, slowly losing himself from the Amish ways. He likes to dismember all the bodies and all that gory shit. When he gets down to the last piece of pie, he saves it, and leaves it on the table in the sleeping apartment and goes back home to live his Amish lifestyle, where he is immediately set up with an arranged marriage with a wife of his own.
The murders are never solved, the girl's body and the other Amish he has killed are never identified. The killer tells his Pastor (basically like the Amish President) that they all decided to stay and live in the popular culture.
So, what do you guys think?
(PS - As far as travel, the Amish have outsiders take them places in large ass vans. When they arrived in the city it would be by a van, and they would already be wearing blue jeans and button down shirts, so there's no horse and carriage, or bonnets and dark blue pants)
