this is a small rant.
I was at Specs today looking for some movies. The place is huge and I was really overwhelmed by all the flicks. I was in there for like 10 minutes and had like 15 movie in my hand. Only having enough for two :) I made some hard decisions and put them away.
At the counter I had Leon The Professional and Evil Dead 2 Book of the Dead Edition.
The awesome thing was Evil Dead 2 was on sale for 10 bucks! 10!!! To good to be true though. It want on sale 9.99.
This has happened to me before so I tryed some smooth talk.
"Sir the price says on sale. Thats the price on the cover. thats the price im paying for it."
I wasnt rude or nasty, becuase this kinda thing happend to me before. He wouldnt give me the sale!!! He said people switch tags like that all the time.
come man give me a break! Thats the tag said 9.99 man!!!
I walked out of there really pissed and dissopointed. Im probably never gonna see that baby again. :(

Was that the only copy with the $9.99 tag? Sometimes they tag early to get ready for a sale.
Peace...

Well, Best Buy does it all the time too. They make you think that you are going to pay that but then they surpise you and make it cheaper.

I have worked in music/dvd biz for over 10 years...
If that ONE Dvd was priced as you said then you should have made a stand and INSIST on that price. Usually a careless employee did not know what they were doing and mistagged the DVD at the wrong price. You gotta figure that if YOU walk up to the register the cashier is not obligated to give you that price if that was the only DVD w/ that choice deal price. But if there was a slew of them tagged at 9.99 then thats a diffrent story my friend.

If the price listed on the sticker is what got you to pick it up, they should honor it. Is it YOUR fault someone screwed up and tagged it incorrectly? Isn't the customer ALWAYS right? They should be ashamed of themselves.

I was once at Best Buy and they had two rows of Open Range on a shelf - side by side. One row had one price, the second row had another. I took a DVD from the cheaper row and let one of the guys working there know. Just reminded me of that.
But I agree with BorderEvil - insist that the price is the reason you're getting the DVD. If they won't sell it to you at the tagged price, tell 'em to keep the damn thing.

unfortunatly that was the only copy so I couldnt show the dude another one. My debate was more detailed then the one I posted above. I almost started cursing at him.
Damn. You guys made some good points. How come I wasnt smart enough to think of some of that?
That has happened to me as well. I have learned my lesson.
Another place to watch out for stuff like that is bookstores. When a certain title is on sale they will have it displayed but the copies not on display that are simply on the racks can be the exact same book but not have the sale price because that's not where you got it from. I don't think they are trying to screw anybody in that case, but it can happen.

One time I was at Best Buy getting an air conditioner with my mom and while browsing among the DVD's I saw Punch-Drunk Love (Superbit 2-Disk) for only 9.99. Even though I haad never seen it I knew I had to pick up this one for only $10. When I went to pay for it they charged me $28. So then we went to customer service and got it for free!
:) SCHWING!

One time I was at best buy, and the same thing happened to me with Jimi Hendrix: Blue Wild Angel, Live at Isle of Wight 2-Disc, it should've been $15-$20 but was labelled at $10. It came up at the regular price, but I showed the guy the sticker and he gave it to me for the lower price. :)

Yes people, let's all cuss out the cashiers for only doing their fuckin job.
I'm sorry but some people make me sick. Anybody who has ever worked as a cashier not just at a video store but ANY fuckin retail store will tell you it's not up to them to determine the price of the item. If the cashier manually changed the price without even asking the manager he could get fired, just so you could get your precious movie for cheaper. I'm sorry but that really is fuckin selfish.
Also, people make mistakes. That's life. Sometimes an employee will mistakenly place a price sticker on the wrong movie. Sometimes it's because their careless. Sometimes it's just because every blue moon they make a simple mistake. Don't sit there and tell me none of you ever fucked up on the job. But here's the catch: every store that sold movies had a price tag that INCLUDED the movie's title. So if you see $10 price tag for Finding Nemo on a Evil Dead 2 case, hmmmm, should that not tell you something? The problem with every customer is that they're illiterate and only know how to read in numbers, and it's nobody's fault but theirs.
I work at Best Buy and I have to put up with pissed off, rude-ass customers (most of them are old, which says something about the elderly these days) all the time bitching to me about stupid shit that's not my fault and shit I have no control over. 95% of the time they could solve their problem by going to customer service or going to the department where they bought the product from, seeing as though I don't even work out on the floor I WORK IN FUCKIN INVENTORY FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, GO BITCH AT SOMEBODY ELSE YOU CUNT!!!
Whew, glad I got that out of the way.

I understand what your saying TrippingBalls but chill a little. The cashier wouldnt be changing the price. Its the fucking price on the damn cover. And the sale tag had no print on it except for the price, so yeah.

To quote Brad Pitt from Se7en:
"You LIE!!! You're a fucking liar!!!"
That was a joke, I've always wanted to do that. Really? Never? Damn, Best Buy is a second home to me.

Well their customer service sucks.
I work at Circuit City and we have absolutely no problem marking down shit if it is clearly our fault. I'm on the register periodically, and they give us authority to mark down items within a certain percentage of the price, outside of that we have to get a manager but even the managers are cool with doing it. Although usually we don't screw up putting tags on the actual movies. Actually, we usually fall behind on the markdowns or we don't even get the markdown tags in, so if anything the price tags are more than the actual price.
Now their are some stupid situations where, for instance, some kid just throws a random DVD into a sale bin and another customer demands that we honor it at the sale price, even though we have accurate signage listing the movies on sale and it is impossible to regulate where customers throw our shit. When that happens though I usually politely point out how stupid they are.

Well that's funny, I've heard from a quite a number of people that the customer service at Circuit City is absolute dog-shit and their employees have the IQ's of gnats. And not only that, but they are always out of stock for every TV and computer you're trying to get.
And your policy at the store is the exact same at the Best Buy I work at. If a customer gets misled by a price-listing and it's clearly our fault we will mark down the price. It's happened on numerous occasions at our store and sometimes we can lose up to a thousand dollars or more on a mis-priced TV.

Well thats a broad generalization that obviously can't be applied to every Circuit City. I can personally say that I do not have the IQ of a gnat, but I can't say the same for most other employees... at any electronics store.

Custom Service is usually the answer..... I got Pulp Fiction for $10, when they rang it up as like 13.88 at target. I told them I thought it was $10 cause that's what it said infront of the DVD's, and the cashier said that they forgot to take down the price tag thing, and told me to go to Customer Service... There was no problem and I got it for $10.

I've never heard of Specs. If they are a huge retail store, they may have the technology to make proper price tags like Circuit City and Best Buy. But if they are a smaller chain, they may have generic price tags that can easily be ripped off and placed on another items. I knew people that would try that shit and sometimes would get it for cheaper and sometimes not.

I actually worked at specs for over a year, and yes, that is how the sale prices worked. The cd/dvd would come with a permanent yellow price tag on the actual platic covering, but it was our job to put a red sale price sticker on the top of the cd/dvd. Specs, like most stores, only have sales for a certain amount of time. If it is our fault that we left the sticker on the item, and its only been a couple of days since the sale ended, we would mark down the price only if the customer insisted on it. If we just flat out told the customer that the sale had ended a few days ago, and its a higher price, and they just said, "ok" then we wouldnt change the price. Also, many people rip off the sale stickers and put them on other items to see if they can get that item cheaper. This never works because when we scan the item, a screen comes up telling us when the item was last on sale, and when the sale ended or will end. If it has not been on sale for months, or never on sale at all, yoyr SOL. Its not our fault some jerk put a sale price sticker on an item that isnt on sale, but if it was cleary our fault that the sale sticker was left on, and the customer wants it for a cheaper price, then we will give it to them. Oh, and Specs is a very small chain store, and the one I used to work at is actually going out of business soon. Soon Specs will be no more. If you have one anywhere near you though, they have used cds/dvds that are really cheap, and they are in good condition, sometimes brand new because people mostly just steal them from some other store and sell them to us.

when I got my first dvd player, I bought 5 dvds (this was 3 or 4 years ago now, when dvds were slightly more expensive than they are now), I got Blade 2, Harry Potter, Tombstone, winnie the pooh (for my kid, and Star Wars Epsiode 1....
Star wars Episode 1 had a fucked up price tag of 10 dollars, while the rest of them were priced at 30 dollars, so I grabbed it straight away, and considering I was looking for this dvd in particular, I was thinking it was a great steal! so I took it to the counter (this was at Walmart by the way) and no questions asked, the price rang up at 30 dollars, but when I pointed out the fuck up, they reduced it to the 10 dollar price.
so, I dunno about circuit city, or best buy, but if those places aren't going to bite the bullet, and lower the price on THEIR fuck up, then shop at walmart, where you know they will honor their mistakes.
I have over 200 dvds now.

Walmart is awesome like that...they mark down anything if you bring it to their attention.
