You can give me shit if you want, but expect it in return then. Seems to me we were both right and wrong.

I edited my post, Madsen (it was supposed to have been more of a "Hehe, boy did I blow that one" kind of thing 'cuz I realized just how terrible it sounded). Apologies for that.

No need for apology. I assumed you were being lighthearted. It's all good. I know that some people got upset with me and felt that I was unfairly bashing Serenity, but personally, I enjoyed the discussion. I thought it was civil and interesting.

I am shocked at how low Serenity did. I was thinking at least $20 million, but $10.09 million seems a little low. The reviews are postive. I am not sure what happened.

1. You don't release SF films you want to make money on Sept. 30.
2. You don't make SF films you want to make money and have them not be obviously stupid and appealing to the LCD. Successful cinematic Science Fiction is, to our lasting national discredit, pretty much the exclusive province of the lamebrained heirs of Roger Corman and George Lucas.
3. Fans of some movies should maybe consider dialing it back a little. I've read and heard from more than one person who was turned off by the excessive zealotry of the Browncoats.
Proselytizing is one thing, but laying it on like Jehova's Witnesses on crystal meth is quite another.

I happen to agree with a lot of your points Buck..This wasn't a franchise that was ready for a movie..even though it sold a ton of dvd's it didn't have enough of a world wide buzz , wasn't on tv for more then 2 months etc. It was amazing it got a movie. I am a HUGE fan of Firefly but I don't call myself a browncoat and I don't go to every message board looking to argue with people about the movie. I also had fun discussing it here were there really is no fanatics , we just disagreed on motive and box office totals it certainly wasn't life or death. Im glad it made 10 million , look at how many movies with much bigger stars and way higher budgets never come close to winning there opening week and actually being the most viewed new movie of that week , and almost the top selling per screen movie..that says a lot about this movie even though it should have been a tv movie.

I am definitely surprised Greatest Game didn't do better-- I thought it would have a huge family appeal...

It did great for the amount of theaters it was in. It was only in 1000 last weekend. It's expanding into 1800 this weekend though.
