Well, I am a big fan of this series. And I know that this movie was stupid and had a Tom Arnold cameo. But I find it to be entertaining. I just love Freddy, and his jokes. I just think this movie gets too much hate. The Dream Master was MUCH worse...

It was very painful to watch and was only marginally better than New Nightmare, IMO.

i like it, it's really stupid but makes me laugh.

Dream Child on the other hand it's the only one i don't like in the whole series

This movie was a mess. I just bought the set and watched this first (hadn't seen it in ages) and wow. The editing was awful, the plot was awful, the acting was awful, the kills -with the exception of the third, which was clever eventhough it was ridiculously executed- were awful, the characters were awful. It just sucked so bad.

Yeah I'd agree that most of it sucks, but there are some cool parts as well. The flashbacks were neat IMO, as well as the whole daughter angle, and some of it was mildly creepy, like the old lady who wouldn't mention Krueger. The dream sequence where the blonde girl is knocked out in order to fall asleep was fun.

i still have to see a couple of the Nightmare films but the ones i have seen have all entertained me and Freddy's Dead was a lot of fun despite the shite acting and general crappiness of it all

This is a great movie to watch with friends. One of the funniest things I own and I own ALOT of comedies.

I think the film would of been better if they took out the "Escape from New York" type schematic, Freddy dressed as a witch. He could of just said, "Enjoy the ride", "Going up?" or something like that instead.

The video game kill should of been excised.

The Tom Arnold and Rosanne cameos were pointless - Did we really need them in it to show how the adults missed children. Wasn't it already established by that old woman which Lisa Zane's character encounters?

The Freddy flashbacks were pretty good. Those are fine with me.

Overall this film isn't too bad. The deaf kids death was creative. However the ending was a let down as it was too ridiculous in my opinion. They should of just banished Freddy to another pantheon or something.

It was a bad idea to try and kill Freddy for good with this entry. Who were they kidding?

I definitley enjoy this film, as I was watching the serries chronologically it was a nice breath of fresh air from the stolid mediocre Dream Master and Dream Child. Both 4 and 5 took themselves far too seriously in plots that weren't half that serious. Freddy's Dead accepted the fact that Freddy was starting to become a pop icon, and ran with it while still creating a good horror film. The fact that this movie looks like a mid 90's made for tv movie makes me like it even more for some reason.

I love Freddy's Dead. Is it as good as the other films in the series? Nope, but I love comical Freddy. In the sixth film of the series, did anyone honestly think that Freddy was gonna be scary?

The title described the franchise at that point. Freddy was dead. That movie sucked. I think New Nightmare saved it. A lot of people don't like New Nightmare. I thought it qwas ok

This is prolly the funniest movie of the ninties!

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare is such a great movie. I saw it at the movie theater when I was like five and I remember laughing at it like it was God damn Old School. Freddy had some really good (and bad) one liners in this movie. My favorite being "Every Town has an Elm Street." I think that the acting, plot, and charecters were terrible but the atmosphere of a comedic Elm Street movie is awesome. I love this movie no doubt but for the finale of Freddy is was a little bad. Not much plot is explained here but hey, that's a horror movie for ya.

The movie has it's moments and was entertaining enough but most of it was too convoluted and the majority of acting was horrible. WTF was with casting Lisa Zane? The actress was just so dry in the role.

Overall, I think it's just a case of preference. If you prefer the more serious tones of Nightmare 1-5 (like I do) then you'd hate Freddy's Dead, but if you embrace Freddy being a comic icon then I'm sure this movie is enjoyable.

it had some cool death scenes. The fun camoes were nice. It's too much of a really bad animated movie done in live action

This movie definitley took FREDDY into new heights of siliness. He parodies the Wicked Witch of the West and plays Nintendo. His stalking of Carlos is more akin to something we would see in a Roadrunner/Wile E. Coyote segment. Did anyone ever even find FREDDY scary in this one? He's so far removed from what the series started out to be that it is actually hard to believe he's the same character. I view this as one of the lower points in the franchise (along with THE DREAM CHILD). The fact that the whole 3-D aspect is actually inserted into the storyline (and awkardly at that) where most movies don't make mention that they are in 3-D, and that FREDDY'S powers are explained (some ridiculous dream demon crap) don't help the film either. With that being said, I LOVE THIS MOVIE. What can I say? I'm a FRED HEAD! Does this movie work as a horror film? FUCK NO! Does it meet my needs in a cheesy movie though? Absolutely. Although I would have preferred it if they had kept FREDDY more dark and evil. Not cracking so many jokes. Looming in the shadows. I can't deny that I get a kick out of this movie anyways. Two thumbs up. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I DO have the poster for this hangin' in my room (it was free,c'mon)...but no,wasn't too big on this one. Wasn't as shitty as New Nightmare, but it was still pretty bad.

I actually think New Nightmare is right up there with the first as the overall best. It felt very real and that made the surreal dream scenes extremely creepy. I fell in love with the plot. That's really clever writing.

I also really like NEW NIGHTMARE but only if I think of it as a stand alone movie. If I actually think about how it discredits the entire series I get pretty flabbergasted but on its own its pretty cool. An extra death in there somewhere couldn't have hurt though. Thats why I can't get into New Nightmare, I felt almost,disrespected(?)...that they would just flush down the toilet all the previous sequels that i've come to love so much.

I will say,in defense of my disliking towards Freddys Dead itself, I will state that I digged the character (both looks and character-wise) of Tracy (played by Lezlie Deane,of 976-Evil)...infact along with Alice, I would love (I know, never) to see either of them return...

i know who likes this film my 5 yr old daugter and 3 yr old son, and i am now joking when i say this the watch it laugh there little asses off. not the effect you would want with a horror movie. now the people that didnt like a new nightmare really confuse me, now i dont want to offend anyone cause we all have a right to our opinion. but to be 7th in a series and actually be frighting is an achievment, and it quit all the freddy sillyness. if you disliked fredys dead than a new nightmare should be what your looking for

Yea Freddys Dead is pure genius.

Any movie with Iron Butterfly is awesome, and Johnny Depps cameo? How could you say no!

AND THE 3D EFFECTS AT THE END! 90s cinematography at its best.

I love Dream Child too, visually its the best, and the kills are extremely creative and fun to watch for how visually arresting they are. The plot is really cool once you figure out whats going on...

The worst ones are probably Dream Master and Freddys Revenge, but even those weren't that bad... I guess you could say I enjoy every single one of the movies on a different level and in a different way.

Hahaha get drunk and watch Dream Warriors and put it on mute and just quote Morpheus over every line Laurence Fishbourne has, its hilarious... the reality bending rules of the matrix and the dreams are pretty similair, its a lot of fun.

Oh and New Nightmare used to be my favorite, its probably the worst... not to mention Freddy looked horrible.

LASTLY:
Freddys Dead opens with a stupid dark qoute like all the other ones, but its immediatly followed up by 'Welcome to Prime Time, Bitch!' and then the main theme over that... those should prepare you enough for whats coming.

I like FREDDY'S DEAD: THE FIINAL NIGHTMARE. It's not one my most favorite A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET movies, but it's not on my least favorites, either. It has it's moments that really work.

Yes, unfortunately Freddy's Dead will go down as my most despised Nightmare entry of the entire series. It starts off with some promise, but as soon as Freddy makes his triumphant appearance riding a broom and cackling like the Wicked Witch of the West (an obvious Wizard of Oz parody,) I knew I was in for bad times. The entire Freddy back story was handled well, but the dream sequences were for lack of a better word CORNY!!!! I won't even mention the horrible Spencer/Nintendo death, but when Freddy pulled out the power glove, I really wanted to kick my television screen in. The entire ending showdown with Freddy was horrible; all about those ridiculous 3D glasses and those horrible stop-motion dream demons, also how much artillery was needed to destroy the bastard, and can someone explain to me why the children's shelter was almost like a fucking military surplus store (gerenades, bow and arrows, pipe bombs, crow bars) I waiting for them to bring on the atomic bomb, but alas I was disappointed, what a fucking gip!!! The acting from the lead characters was plausible considering the material that was handed too them, Lisa Zane was wasted here, but damn was she ever fucking hot. Always good to see genre favorite Yaphet Kotto (Parker from Alien,) make an appearance, as well as Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper. Could have done without Tom Arnold and Roseanne Barr, but that is just me. All in all, Freddy's Dead was excruciatingly horrible, Ms. Talalay (a veteran of the entire Nightmare series,) for reasons beyond me, as to why you couldn't give Freddy a proper send off, is ludricrous. You still have some explaining to do young lady; hang your head in shame

poguesfan, with all your recent talk about the NIGHTMARE films lately you're really tempting me to pull out my box set and review the entire series. I used to watch these films week after week for years. FREDDY vs JASON was the culmination of all that. After that film came out I hardly watched them again afterward. In the five years since I've probably seen each film once, maybe even twice. It might be time to give the franchise another look. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

That is just how I felt teenkiller, I used to love the films to death when I was growing up, but as I got older, the more I started noticing way too many flaws throughout the entire series. Now, that doesn't mean I have turn my back on Mr. Krueger and delightful ginsu knives; I still love the original NOES (one my all time favorite horror movies,) I thought NOES 3: Dream Warriors was an entertaining and worthy sequel. I found some parts of NOES 2: Freddy's Revenge (especially concerning the makeup effects) to be rather visually stunning. It's just that when I look back at NOES 4-6 now, I find myself shaking my head in embarassment; although some aspects of these films still entertain me. It wasn't until New Nightmare that my appreciation for this series was revitalized.

I didn't like the look of Freddy in New Nightmare. He looked really fake for some reason.

While I thought Freddy's Dead was quite corny, it seemed to me that Robert Englund looked like he was having fun the whole time and I can respect the movie for that. It seems every horror movie franchise has their "funny" sequel in the bunch(RotLD 2, Ft13th 6, TCM 2), but Robert Englund actually made me like this one despite me generally despising "funny" horror sequels.

I thought Ft13th 6 was my least favorite and I loved the hell out of TCM 2, but that probably is quite different from most people and it is a bit offtopic of me.

When I was a kid, this movie was one of the main reasons I loved the series so much. Now that I'm older, it's my least favorite, but I still love the series, with the original as my favorite.

This movie just had a lot of flaws, a lil too many for me, plus the whole direction after the great sequel Dream Child just ruined things, Freddy was dead after this and also the franchise. But New Nightmare was perfect to bring things back. To most fans I think Freddys Dead is clearly the low point in the series...

I saw this in theaters, and not since then. Reading through this thread, I do remember being underwhelemed with it, although the Iron Butterfly scene and Depps cameo were the talk at school on Monday. Like teenkiller, reading through this is making really want to revisit the franchise. The original and pt. 3 are the only two I own, and recently I started watching 2 on Netflix ondemand but fell asleep maybe 10 minutes in.

It was good. I think that all Freddy Movies have those moments where you think how was this guy scary then see it for comedy value and not so much for its horror. I think Freddy should do stand up! That would kick ass!

I definitely do not get all the hate for part 2. Are we (as Americans) that homophobic today, where that was once accepted in the eighties but is mocked now. (Okay, the scene where he's dancing to the pop song and using a pop-gun to imitate his pecker was MAJOR immature, but still...) I dig part 2 and Freddy's Dead about the same, and volley from which one I prefer from time to time. I'd give them each a solid three, and those are my "low-points" in this series, if a Nightmare on Elm Street has one. :)
