Another weak weekend at the box office. Elizabethtown should pass The Fog by the end of the weekend for the number one spot. $13 million seems about right. The Fog will be lucky to hit $12 million if it performs like a typical horror movie. It was cheap, but still not a very good opening weekend. And holy shit did Domino bomb. $60 million production budget and it's going to have a $5 million opening if it's lucky. It looked bad and it is bad and people smelled it.

I'm afraid the box-office will be like this for a while. Doom and Saw 2 will top in the next few weeks but either would be lucky to get 20 million opening. Chicken Little may be the next 30-40 million. Jarhead comes out the same week but I don't expect it to make more than 15 million on opening. And the Get Rich or Die Tryin' will top, but I'm not sure how much. It will be either very high #1 or very low #1. It might be Harry Potter before we see a hit.

W&G dropped only 22% from last friday. Might have a sub-20% weekend drop. It's showing some great legs.

Poor, poor pitiful weekend.
Elizabethtown could very well take the top spot when the weekend is over. A shitload of people were exiting the theater where it was playing.
I have a penchant for trashy films that bomb; Domino was mindlessly entertaining, so I feel like an odd protector of it.
I'm just astonished that Serenity managed to tumble out of the top ten so quickly. Wait, maybe I'm not...

The first weekend of November we get CHICKEN LITTLE and JARHEAD. Both films should do great at the boxoffice.
The second weekend we get THE FAMILY STONE, which should top the weekend if it gets a high enough theater count and GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN' which as of yet only has 1000+ theaters under it's belt.

The Family Stone isn't opening until December 16th.

Do a little research. Its release date was pushed back. Trust me. It opens on December 16th.
From hollywood-elsewhere:

20th Century Fox is pushing back the release date of The Family Stone from early November to December 16th.

Considering the couple TV spots I saw today also said November 11th, I'm sticking with that date until the date on the spots change.

It's been posted on other sites like Oscarwatch, etc. Trust me, the date has been changed to December. You're too trusting of TV spots. :)

Well go ahead and be wrong then. Why in the fuck would you trust TV spots? Stubborn are we? Not that it matters, since you are wrong.

I hate it when people argue about lame shit like this. Who cares? There are plenty of websites that display both dates, there’s no need to argue who’s right.

JESUS CHRIST, I am not the one with the problem here. I just wanted to point out that the movie had a date change. Just a little FYI since it was a recent change and it appeared that he didn't know.

Don't feel bad for Domino. Some movies get exactly what they deserve.

I don't feel bad for Domino, I feel bad for New Line, I think they are a good company but have been wasting way to much money latley on turds, Son Of The Mask, Dumb And Dumberer anyone? It's like they made way to much money on Lord Of The Rings trilogy and green lit anything pushed their way while high.
Oh well, they still have a good horror track record.
Oh and PS, LADIES, CALM DOWN AND STOP FIGHTING!!!!! SHEEH!!!

Well I wouldn't say a while since Chicken Little is only 2 weeks away. Like you said, it should be a killer weekend-- they are expecting huge numbers for the film overall...
I don't mind waiting 2 weeks for a nice box office weekend..

Really good for IN HER SHOES, disappointing for WAITING.... It has had some good buzz and it didn't have a very good hold.

Did Waiting really have good buzz? I don't think I know anyone who saw it. Hard to know what the buzz is sometimes. In Her Shoes is a good flick and I too am glad it held up fairly well.

Everyone I know loved WAITING.... Whether it be from the net or my friends. General audiences really enjoy it.
MadsenOMC

But I think the same can be said for Serenity. Certain movies have a really hard time expanding beyond their target audience. In both cases, moviegoers outside of the target audience just didn't care, regardless of what people who saw them said.
NightStalkerGtx
10-16-2005, 03:53 PM
^ true, but waiting was smart and went with a 3 million dollar budget, not with a 39 million dollar budget cough serenity cough
MadsenOMC
10-16-2005, 04:03 PM
Oh I know Waiting was cheap and therefore has already guaranteed itself a profit. I just meant that for whatever reason, despite being liked by most people who saw them, both movies never appealed to a wide audience.
NightStalkerGtx

i know^ i just wanted to piont out that at least waiting made profit is all i agree that they didnt appeal to wide audiences, but im just gald waiting has profit.
