Ben Crane was once a great horseman, whose gifts as a trainer were now being wasted on making other men's fortunes. Sonya was a great horse whose promising future on the racetrack was suddenly cut short by a career-ending broken leg. Considered as good as dead to her owner, who also happens to be Ben's boss, Sonya is given to Ben as severance pay, along with his walking papers. Now, it will take the unwavering faith and determination of Ben's young daughter, Cale, to bring these two damaged souls together in a quest for a seemingly impossible goal: to win the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Two words: Dakota Fanning.

She's probably the only reason I want to see this film, strangely enough. The whole "based on a true story" title has been thrown on way too many films this year.

The fact that they're sticking it in the title (compared to using it as a tagline) comes across as desperate to me. Nothing here that catches my fancy.

I agree about the inspired by a true story thing on the title but I really want to see this. It looks really good. And between Dark Blue and Miracle, Kurt Russell has been on a role lately. Not to mention so has Dekota Fanning. And then you add Elizabeth Shue, Kris Kristopherson and David Morse to the cast. I'm definately looking forward to this.

7/10

Yeah, yeah, it's predictable. I was still hooked.

Dakota Fanning is terrific here; I was a bit scared thinking she was going to do her patented, type-cast wide eyed routine, but she blossoms into her own. Kurt Russell -- what an underrated actor. This is another strong performance by him. In fact, this is one of the few family film ensembles that works; even the comic relief provided by Luis Guzman and Freddy Rodriguez seems natural and warm, not mean spirited or forced. While I knew what was coming, I still got goosebumps.

This should do well with families and young girls, who were in enormous amount at the sneak preview I attended. I can't give this more than a 7 since it really doesn't break new ground, but it's the best attempt at not beating a dead horse (so to speak) into the ground.

She's the reason that I can't wait to never see this movie.

People said that Cinderella Man was a Oscar bait movie. This sure look like one too.

It may be tossing out the bait, but I don't think Oscar is going to take it.

(tumbleweeds blowing)

I feel silly being the only one on this board (or am I?) to throw my support behind this movie.

Harry Potter will probably end up being the highest grossing family flick of the year (though it may have competition with The Chronicles of Narnia) but for my money, this is the best family movie of the year. A wonderful movie with exceptional performances from everyone especially the entire Crane family (Kurt Russell, Dekota Fanning, Elisabeth Shue, Kris Kristopherson) and Freddie Rodriguez.
