I can't do anything but agree with most of it, although I haven't seen SEXY BEAST. And I would place LOTR higher in a few categories. But that aside, it's a great list, Colin.

I will get back to this post after I've seen these potential "Best of 2001" flicks...

Only one small thing.

In my opinion Nicole Kidman was better in The Others than Moulin Rouge (though BOTH are among the best performances of last year)

But hell, it's your list.

I agree with every single Gold medal you gave. I would've placed Ewan McGregor higher, but the guys there are great. I also thought that Nicole Kidman was better in Moulin Rouge than The Others. There's a lot of films that I haven't seen yet, so my mind might of course still change.

Memento should be #1 across the board. What about Mulholland Drive? Who could have come close to pulling off what Naomi Watts did!!?? Sharon Stone, Julia Roberts, Halle Berry? Pa-lease!

Naomi Watts, along with Sissy Spacek and Stockard Channing, was one of the great performances of the year that I'm sorry didn't make the list. As for Mulholland Drive...eh...I just didn't care for that movie as much as everyone else did. I plan on seeing it again, but until I do...eh.

And...Sharon Stone? What performance of hers are you referring to from this year?

I rewatched The Others recently and yes, Kidman is amazing in it. It's almost difficult to decide which performance is better, but I just loved Kidman in Moulin Rouge. I thought she did a near-perfect job in it.

I will to do what you did, but keep in mind I haven't seen "Black Hawk Down" or "The Man Who Wasn't There" or "Mulholland Drive" or "Training Day" or "Monsters Ball" and some others yet, so yeah. Also I don't consider Memento a 2001 movie.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to list actresses that had performances in 2001 particularly, just to point out B-actresses (even C-actresses)that are showered with A-acting accolades undeservedly. Before Mulholland Drive I never heard of Naomi and she has been acting forever. She is seen and treated as a B-actress while in reality none of today's so called Hollywood female royalty is worthy to lick her boots. Even if you didn't particularly like Mulholland Drive, you should watch it again and try to imagine any other actress pulling off Naomi's role. I wish that's how acting was graded and awarded, not by "media popularity"(I do have to admit I subscribe to Entertainment Weekly - FOR SHAME!) or the "white-teeth" test. ISA's are the only, albeit small, step in the right direction to date.
