There was very little in it, but Steve Carell's second week as THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN maintained hold at #1 with $1,620,993, only off a soft 24%. All together, the well received comedy has collected $4,554,790 (US $52,371,649). Cameron Diaz's 2005 film outing IN HER SHOES strutted its way into the #2 spot in its first national week of release with $1,620,557. The opening is the 10th best for Diaz, and the 19th best for the month of October. However, it does have a few more pennies to its name, taking last week's advance screenings into account. All up it has managed $2,056,065 (US $23,640,939). John Cusack and Diane Lane kept on romancing at #4, keeping their position, but losing 48% of their audience. This old dog hasn't learnt too many tricks with MUST LOVE DOGS on $1,842,163 (US $21,181,462). Before opening nationally this week, Keira Knightley's venture into Jane Austen territory was given a test run. The 2005 adaptation of PRIDE & PREJUDICE will have a lead of $472,143 (US $5,428,770) come next week. Stylish Russian scarer NIGHTWATCH managed a Top 10 debut, coming out far ahead off it's horror competition, the DOA THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, placing at #7 with $380,534 (US $4,375,436). Feeling a considerable blow to their respective systems, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, SKY HIGH, and SHARKBOY & LAVAGIRL, all suffered drops due to school holidays officially rounding up in all parts of the country. Total wise, they aren't doing too shabby. The Johnny Depp crowd pleaser, which slipped 65%, has a sweet $24,114,598 (US $277,273,216), Kurt Russell's kiddie feature, losing 68% interest, has soared with $6,234,520 (US $71,685,433), whilst the 3D child's play of Robert Rodriguez, off a staggering 70%, sits with $5,505,147 (US $63,298,994), less than a million off his other 2005 venture Sin City ($6.29m). As mentioned before, Rob Zombie's slaughter sequel THE DEVIL'S REJECTS was barely there this weekend, popping up at #17 with $123,544 (US $1,420,527), around half of what House of 1000 Corpses made on its first week in March of last year.

THIS WEEK (October 20th): Keira Knightley goes period piece by way of Jane Austen; Paul Walker, Jessica Alba and Scott Caan show off their bronzed beach bods; Jennifer Connelly deals with a little more than a leak; and Sam and Eugene prove to be unlethal weapons.
