Weather Man - 9/10

I thought it was outstanding. Brilliant stuff, and despite what I said about Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and A History of VIolence, I think this may be the very best film I've seen this year.

Man seems like a good year for Cage between Lord of War and this.

No doubt. Unfortunately, few are taking notice and few are seeing the movies. They'd rather see National Treasure.

Eh, LOW wasn't that great, and his monotonous narration and performance got on my nerves. I'm hoping Weather Man is a better film.

It really is. I hated LOW.
This was great, although my dad, who I thought would dig this film, actually hated it. I have no idea why, he called it monotonous, dull, un-inspired, and pointless. Strange...

This looks fantastic. With Matchstickmen, Adaptation, Lord of War, and now this Cage is actualy starting to impress.

Ghost Rider wcould see the end of that however.:)

This is an odd little film. The first half is uneven, trying to mix dark humor with a depressing drama. However, in the second half the film finds its footing and by the end, it's an unexpectedly rewarding experience. Nicolas Cage is quite something in this role. At first, he reminded me of the Robin Williams' character in One Hour Photo - sad, rejected, lonely and desperate to please others. But his character undergoes some transformations and Cage showcases a range of emotions and really brings the character to life. Michael Caine and Hope Davis are also well-suited. There are moments of strange beauty and madness and the wonderful ending make it seem like you've taken a journey with the Cage character through a difficult period in his life. The movie remains melancholy throughout, but is not a tearjerker by any means. Having lived through winters in Chicago myself, I can tell you it's not uncommon to have frequent mood swings and frustrating stretches of solitude. There is no easy resolution or uplifting tacked-on climactic scene. Instead, The Weather Man is original and moving, if flawed, and it makes for an unconventional and surprising film.

7/10

The jokes were predictable, and parts of it were unneccessarily depressing, but good overall :)

I particularly liked the fast food analogy Cage makes in the food court.

And the distorted score.

This movie was a whole lot more depressing to me than it should seem, seeing as the Nic Cage character was a near exact replica of my own dad, except not as successful in his profession. How he treated his family, trying to make everything seem like it was happy when in reality it wasn't. It isn't like he can't see the reality, he is just too selfish to accept it, which causes him to keep trying and inevitably failing. For example, he tries and tries to make ends meet, but in that scene where he's just staring at the house mumbling to himself, "there should be at least one happy person here," but there isn't and he doesn't know why. This movie touches on just about every problem in domestic american life, shows us that everyone bases judgement on how things 'look," and makes a very valid point about fast food. And I didn't think the ending was happy at all. He still didn't fix things, he doesn't know his kids at all, and he is still pretty selfish. God this movie hit a little too close, and while there are some hilarious moments, "tartar sauce scene," I can't quite stomach it all and come to a conclusion, yet. This movie makes me sad. :(

I was expecting this to be depressing as shit from reading all the review and people's responses. It was a lot funnier than I was expecting it to be...and a great movie over all, I don't think it was very depressing.

This is a great dark comedy!!!!! If you like dark comedies then I highly recommend it, otherwise I would stay away.

Cage has made some really good movies in the past few years with Adaptation, Matchstick Men, Family Man, and now this. He has made up for the many Bruckheimeresque movies that he has been in, only if he can quit making movies like National Treasure. I guess I shouldn't complain about National Treasure because I've never seen it, and I never will.

So if you like a good dark comedy, go to The Weather Man.

Yea, saw this one tonite and thought it was damn good... Thing is, it's kinda been done before, same premise anyhow... Most recently done by Billy Murray in what I thought to be this years best film, Broken Flowers...

Nicolas Cage is golden in just about everything he's been in (I can forgive National Treasure :p) and does a great job here as the rejected/lonely/failed/depressed title character... I also love how the Director filmed this in the snowy winter time, as the weather reflects David's (Cage) mood throughout the film.... Failed at having a family, but hopeful for a new job, it pretty much shows the ups and downs of this man's life....

I think this movie does so well, cuz most anyone can relate to it... It's how I would see myself years down the road, if I did the typical thing every adult feels they "should" do, by having a family/kids, etc.

With some touches of humour thrown throughout (LOVED the scene where he's arguing with the black man outside his car, just to have more food thrown at him at the same time!) and some sad dramatic scenes as well, I highly recommend it! :)

This sucks, why is this film getting so little attention and doing so bad at the box office. It was so good, it was not depressing, shit, American Beauty was more depressing (but still the better movie).
The acting was good, the score really good, the cinematography was great. I liked it alot. I don't see why people are not watching this. I might just go watch this again this weekend to support an actually good movie in the theaters.

I would love to see it, unfortunately it's not playing at my small town theatre. That probably has a lot to do with it.

I went to the theater expecting to see "Get rich or Die Trying" but my friends and I decided not to go see it, and we decided to see The Weather man... mostly because either everything else someone saw, or someone else that wasn't with us wanted to see it too (obviously some people didn't want to go see "get Rich or Die Trying") Anyway I went into this not knowing what to really expect, but while I was watching it, I thought it was a really good movie. There was something about it that I liked, and I thought it was really funny. Like someone said the Tator Sauce seen it really good. I'd probably give this a 7/10, it was really entertaining, and I'm glad I got to see it because I doubt I would of really be enthusiastic to try and watch it.

The Weather Man

Before I comment on this movie let me go ahead and say two things first thing Im starting to get a little bored with Nicholas Cage. He needs to do something that r eally changes up his persona.

Second, WHY was this movie marketed and released as a mainstream film. This is a completely non-mainstream as evidenced by half the theater that walked out. Even fans of this movie have to admit it has a very strange tone. This is one of the most bizzare films Ive seen in the last few years.

Now onto the movie

Personally I loved the movie. Yes it was bizzare but I was actually attracted to its many aburpt and I do mean abrupt tone shifts and some of the more dark corners of American life it dared to explore. One thing that I noticed about the film that was interesting was that while the main character was a spectacular failure in many areas I surprisingly didnt find him to be a unlikable failure.

To me the real emotional core to this film that really made it as potenet as it was was that as many akward and bizzare circumstances Spritz brought on himself his heart was in the right place. He doesn't really want to hurt anyone he justs wants one thing to actually go right in his life its just that no matter what he does he just seems to make things worse around him. Sure the message behind the film, one must accept that everything doesnt come easy in life, isnt exactly groundbreaking but its done with genuine pathos and lots ingenuiety. I can see why this would turn people off as evidenced by the many akward laughs in my theater but I loved it. Another underrated film of the year that much like Sernity will escape the cinemaplex with just a whisper sadly.

9/10

Chinton I so totally agree with everything you said. It so should have gotten a limited release and why the hell did they release it over Halloween, although there are many people, like me, who are not all into films like "SAW." Although I disagree on the thing about Cage, I think Cage is perfect in these roles and he should only do these and "National Treasure" type roles.
On a seperate noet, you, Chinton, have been watching the best films in theaters recently. *Applause*
I reccomend you all to watch these awesome films.

I work at Universal Studios in the post production dept. so I live close. Specifically I live in Burbank two minutes from Warner Brothers studios. When i got to the theater or anything I always go to the Burbank AMC theater on San Fernando. Parking is easy and its close.

By the w ay I also loved Michael Caine in this. He wasnt in it a lot but whenever he was he showed what a consumate actor he is.

Ok, I know where that is. I'm more Hollywood, but hey that theater is cool too, I've went a few times.
That's so cool though that you work at Universal Studios at the post production department, that must be an awesome job.
Also, Michael Cane's acting was awesome. I hope he gets a supporting actor nom.
