I cant find a thread on this and Im not sure how to do all the cool post it with pictures you guys do but heres the review. I saw it at a sneak.
Now this is how kids film should be. Its incredibly enjoyable that manages to be fun for everyone. What I liked is it didnt have any juvenile jokes. It didnt treat the adults like idiots. Also all four characters as theres really only four worked so well together especially the two brother. Also I have to give big props to the look of the film which really hit the nail on t he ehad for thsi retro look. i loved that the aliens in the film werent CGI. Its not perfect. It went on for too long. Also one of the brother was a bit of a brat for half of the film. Also there wasnt a really strong narrative drive but all in all i enjoyed it.
7.5/10
I also thought it was interesting that the movie has a really heady twist that probably flew over kids head.

This movie looks like a complete copy of Jumanji.

I'm sad that I fell asleep from 2-6pm today, when there was a sneak preview at 5:00. I was totally going to go.

They are both based on books by Chris Van Allsburg.
This thread is also a week early. Threads in "Current Movie Talk" are only allowed when the film is within one week of its release date. That's why you could not find the thread.

Isn't this based on a book written by the same dude who wrote Jumanji?
This looks like a unoffical sequel to Jumanji. Looks fun.

Hey, Jon Favreau directed this! Interesting...
Maybe with this and Elf, he can stop living off the success and past glory of Swingers and move on to make cute family films.

It is the sequel to Jumanji. Just with a cooler title and Tim Robbins. Looks pretty damn good to me.

Wow. Not much activity in this thread.
This movie was great. I can't find a single fault in it. The acting is perfect. The special effects are increadible. And the story doesn't pander and act stupid just to be a kid's movie.
Not only that, there's a great twist later in the story. I even got a little lump in my throat when Walter made his second wish.
This is great stuff. I really recomend you guys give this a chance.

Went to see this TODAY....
Movie is "Jumnaji 2" like but yeah so what.....
***SPOILERS***
The movie is basically these 2 brothers who the middle one cuz there is the older sister can't stand the younger brother who just can leave his brother alone. The younger one just doesn't learn and seems like a broken record. But hey isn't younger brothers like that in real life?
The younger one finds a game and ALL HELL breaks loose. Just like "Jumanji" the players involved, the 2 brothers that is must play all the way!
Is "Zathura" better versus "Jumanji" ? maybe 1/4 improvement and not all that fancy like the other one.
(7/10)

I liked this flick.
It had a creative edge to it that childrens films are missing more and more nowadays. The two brothers were played realistically and the sci fi elements were beaitifully shot. I really liked how when life is "normal" all the colors seem dull and grainy but when they enter the game everything gets a vibrant shine to it. Now it was a bit too long and some parts did serve up a big platter of cheese but overall I was impressed.
