View Full Version : I have had enough. Really.

After watching a certain movie tonight, one which I won't say...it has finally dawned on me.

I had thought about it a long time ago, and how annoying it really is, but what I saw tonight completely made it for sure: next time I see a split personality ending, I am going to murder everyone within a 10 mile radius. I watched this movie tonight, excited as all hell. Yes, an hour or so of great buildup, camera work, tension, and all that other good stuff. In the final 15 minutes it completely fucking implodes on itself trying to totally warp the viewers preception on everything we had just watched.

WHY? Seriously. Stop with the split personality endings. They aren't creative anymore, and when they are used now, it's at the end when we get a 10 minute montage and the director is probably sitting in the editing room applauding himself for being so damn clever. You're not. It's gotten me to the point of screaming, where potentially very good movies are dubbed down to okay or even barely good because of their bullshit excuse for an ending that forces the viewer to completely change their view of the movie. Oh, so he/she has or had a split personality? Oh well then let me reconstruct this movie so that all the puzzle pieces can fall in and it will make sense.

Fuck split personality, schizophrenia, or any of that other shit endings now-a-days they are fucking ruining my movie experiences!

That's another example of said idea, yes, but no cigar on the movie it actually was that I watched.

Guys, please stop throwing titles around. Some people might have not seen these movies and didn't know about this split personality twist. Edit your posts please, for politeness.

i agree with someguy on that you should edit your posts so not to spoil those films for other schmoes

as for the main post, i agree, i watched a film a couple of days ago that i had wanted to see for ages, excellent acting and direction and although the plot wasnt that interesting, toward the end it started bombarding me with all this split personality stuff that just annoyed the hell out of me

It's an easy way to wrap it up and one of the biggest bunches of bullshit I've ever seen. I'm with ya, Chem.

Gotta go before my alternate identity, NorelcoShaver shows up.
Take it easy.

I'm betting it was The Machinist - I figured out who the "mystery guy" was and that kinda ruined the movie for me.

This split personality thing is definitely overused. It belongs in the movie cliche thread. It's been heavily used in suspense/thriller movies ever since Psycho and maybe even before that.

I agree that it is a lame excuse for a twist ending anymore especially when it doesn't bother to explain any discrepencies.

But why blame him? He perfected it. Blame the mofos that are copying him (or paying homage - whatever) - like David Fincher. I'm not saying blame Fincher, but certainly don't blame the master - Hitchcock. The reason it's so cliched is because filmmakers nowadays are using it so much, not because Hitchcock did it way back in 1960.

I wasn't blaming Hitchcock. I was just noting that many have tried to emulate Hitchcock's film. At least when Hitchcock and Ficher did it they attempted to fill in the details. In some recent films that I've seen that shall remain nameless that hasn't always been the case.

If you are, in fact, referring to a horror movie that was recently released on DVD...I'm right with ya there, brother. I, too, was excited as hell to finally watch this movie I had heard such praise for. After a decent hour of build-up, murder, gore and excitement...it gets bent over backward and takes it up the ass for the last 20 minutes or so. That's and hour and a half and about $4 that I'll never see again.

Blaming Hitchcock is like blaming Lucas and Spielberg for the summer blockbuster. If they actually immitated them, it wouldn't be a problem, the movies would fucking rock.

No one has come close to guessing the movie, though one person has cited a movie by the same director. Please don't post movies asking if it's them without posting spoilers! Think of the other schmoes.

KILL THIS FUCKING THREAD!!!!!

It's already spoiled two movies for me already! CR, it's no enough to put spoilers, as whenever a thread is made where the titles or even the topic description mentions listing certain movies where the ending has a good guy die at the end, or ends up dreaming everything, then anybody who hasn't seen any of the films that follow this ending will have it be spoiled simply by reading the name of the film and taking a cue from the topic.

It makes no difference if you put a spoiler warning before it, it's a stupid idea for a thread as you can't participate unless you've seen a whole lot of movies with that kind of ending.

I apologize Mac, I didn't really see this "loophole" of the thread until a while after I posted it. Kill this thread indeed, the new schmoes that posted un-spoil marked posts aren't going to come back to edit them. To those who have had movies spoiled, I aplogize, that wasn't my intention at all.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!

I've liked most of the split personality movies that have been out recently. The only one recently that I absolutely hated was Hide and Seek. The twist was so easy to figure out, and the movie was just awful overall. Famke Jannsen has one of the worst line deliveries I've ever seen at the end when she actually says "hide and seek" for no reason at all.
