So Im told the other P&P thread actually is a totally seperate version which I dont understand at all so here is the one specifically for the Kiera Knightely version.

Why isnt anybody talking about this/ Its one of the best film of the year. Its irreverant, surprisingly well-written, well-acted, and beautifully directed. It seems as if many good movies are dead quiet on this board.

See this movie today.

9/10

I dont really know how to do the pictures and stuff so someone else can do that.

I don't understand how some of you guys are saying this isn't doing well and it's being ignored at the box office. It made $1 million yesterday alone, do you realize it's only in 215 theaters? That is AMAZING.

My opinon stands as before.
Finally a real thread.
Now I'm off to see Mrs. Henderson Presents as day two of my Brit FIilm Festival.

We never said the film woud do bad, I was actually quite confident it would do well, but that the films on this board are dead.
1 MILLION from about 200 theaters is great.

I just finished reading the novel last night. Good stuff.

I have high expectations for this adaptation. Word from overseas (where it was released earlier) has been very good and Knightley is a lovely choice for the lead.

This really sucks -- no, not the movie. I didn't get a chance to see it. I showed up at least a good 30-35 minutes before the 7:15, thinking I could get a ticket. Much to my surprise, the sign said "Sold Out."

Tomorrow is another day...

I'm looking forward to seeing this, having loved the book I'm very interested in how this movie adaptation will turn out with Keira Knightley (who seems like a good choice for the role of Elizabeth Bennett) in the lead role. Looks really good judging from the trailers.

This opened here in October, and I thought it was a great film. It actually puts the characters around a more appropriate age, and despite feeling a little long, a bit of an annoying performance from Brenda Blethyn, and Jena Malone being rather irritating, the film is funny, charming and very satisfying. Keira Knightley and Rosamund Pike are superb. 8/10 from me.

I can't wait for this movie. With the reviews its getting, it looks like a film that has a chance for Oscar. I must wait until Thanksgiving, but I will be in line then.

I love Keira Knightley and she's been on a role since Bend it Like Beckham. For that and for the stellar supporting cast, I will definately see this.

The A&E version of this is one of my all time favorite films (running 6 hours long!) I was so excited to see this when it came out last week but it wasn't playing anywhere around me!!! I was so disappointed. I will see it when it gets released wide on November 23. I can't wait. They say it doens't beat the A&E version but that it is still very good. The old Laurence Olivier version is horrible- that movie was totally perverted from the story in the book.

With the $$$ it's making, I'm certain it will be near all soon enough.

I'm currently reading the book, and am anticipating the movie. It's great, I'm watching the trailer and the guy they have playing Darcy is pretty much exactly how I am picturing him as I read the book (kind of Clive Owenish).

The A&E version of Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite movies of all time so I am not objective when I say that I was disappointed in the version now out in theatres. I couldn't help compare the acting and the character and story development. The new version felt so rushed and so many characters were missing. Also I thought the A&E actors were so brilliant in their roles, especially the secondary characters.

The new movie has Darcy looking so morose thru the movie. In the A&E Colin Firth is truly infuriating in his condescension and then so ardent in his love at a later point.

I will say that the photography was beautiful in the new version and that the danvcing scenes were a lot of fun. Maybe people who have never seen P&P before will love this one but to me it just felt rushed and underdeveloped.

Keira Knightley continues to be on a role. I found this to be an utterly delightful movie and I loved Keira in it especially! Matthew MacFadyen is a revelation to me. Until now I haven't even heard of him but he's great here. A starmaking performance in my eyes. Together, Knightley and MacFadyen sparkle on screen. And they are supported by an equally terrific supporting cast. Brenda Blethyn is a delight as Knightley's mother as is Donald Sutherland as her father. Rosamund Pike is exquisite as one of Knightley's sisters. Judy Dench plays a rich, arrogant bitch well. The movie looks great and it's just very entertaining. And in the end a scene between Knightley and Sutherland is just a great moment when she tells him that she loves Darcey. Great acting from both in that scene. It put a smile on my face as did the movie itself.

Owen was exactly who I was reminded of throughout the whole movie. MacFayden actually looked handsomer, but don't tell Clive I said so.

Loved it. Knightley's best performance yet, and while condensing the novel to it's basic minimum, it felt equivalent to what Austen was trying to accomplish on the page.

You mean different from previous adaptations, like the A&E miniseries? I didn't see that one, but I liked how the ending here was different from the book. I wouldn't have cared for a double wedding sequence; ending it with tenderness between Donald Sutherland and his second daughter felt like such a nice closure, you get the point without the story needing to tell more.

Yeah but the problem is that the new movie never really developed the relationship between the father and Lizzie. In the A& E version it was very developed so the ending might have worked better in that movie. I can't remember -was there a double wedding in the book? The A& E had one which was kind of corny but they used the scene to make some interesting points about the failings of humanity.

You really should see the A&E version- taht characterizations are simply brilliant- Mr. Collins is so funny in that one!! And Mrs. Bennet is REALLY awful (in a funny way!)

^^^ Yeah, the book had a double wedding between Jane/Bingley and Elizabeth/Darcy.

And I would love to see the A&E version, if I can track it down somehow...

I'm pretty sure Netflix has it if you know someone who subscribes to it. I also think you can get a free trial membership. Also, it has been on A&E lately I heard so if you can check the listings. Soem libraries have the movies in stock too. It is really worth seeing if you have read the book- it is the book come to life.

Go to Netflix.com

In search write Pride and Prejudice and when you get to the A&E one, scroll down and read the customer reviews at the bottom too! I'd love to see this one again for the first time! Although the first time I started to watch it I almost turned it off until someone told me to stay with it. It was so worth it.

I worry about seeing the A&E version. I really cant stand Jane Austnes books and the idea that it s more faithful is not a big selling point for me

If you dont'like Austen's books then you probably won't like the A&E version cause it follows it pretty closely.

I'm not in the US right now so Netflix and A&E are currently out of the question...but libraries might be a good bet.

Also, I just read on this blog (http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051122/SCANNERS/51123002) that the version released in the US contains an extra scene at the end (which is probably what Cronos was talking about). I saw the movie in The Netherlands so I didn't see "a swoony moonlit scene of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy in dishabille, kissing and cooing in a post-coital clinch....", I assume you folks did?

Lynn7

I don't know about post-coital (LOL!) but it was a scene as you described and it was very touching, IMO. You mean that scene is not in all of the versions? I wonder why it's not?
