I have never read the books for HP1 and HP2. Recently, I have watched HP1, HP2, and HP3 on DVD.
At the conclusion of Chamber of Secrets, when Potter tricks Lucius Malfoy into freeing Dobby, it appeared that Malfoy was going to do an Avada Kevadra on Potter.
He was fortunately saved by Dobby.
Is this part of the book? If so, that is pretty cool.

I just looked up the part your asking about, and it simply says that Lucius 'lunged' at Harry.
Says nothing about a spell. Basically that he was going to throttle Harry around the neck or something. Pretty sure he didn't even have his wand out until after Dobby sent him flying.
Something interesting here though... It says Lucius looked at Dobby in a threatening way then realized he had no choice, so he put his wand away and stalked off.
Which makes me wonder how strong Dobby or house elfs in general are?

It is an interesting question. As interesting to me as the fact that Columbus chose to have Malfoy start the Avada Kevadra spell on Harry.
I'm sure that there is an entire story about the history of house elves. I wouldn't be surprised if it is mentioned in the final book. Or if their power will be used at key points.
The power of these elves was featured for most of HP2. Dobby generated a hell of a lot of threat against Harry and he was intentionally trying not to kill him.
Its really interesting.
1. They are enslaved.
2. They have the abliity to do magic.
3. Lucius Malfoy was hesitant to strike back against Dobby because of some unmentioned reason.
What's to stop the tons of house elves from uprising? Lol...if that were to happen in book 7, though, that would be horrible. Most of the storylines surrounding house elves (and squibs for that matter) were taken out of the films.

Not all house elf's are good like Dobby though, Sirius Black's house elf (Kreacher) seems pretty evil to me.
From my understanding of the books, 99% of the house elfs enjoy serving their masters. To me its a choice they make to be almost slavelike because they enjoy it. So I doubt their would be an uprising.
