View Full Version : Superman TEASER TRAILER thread.
I thought this would be a good opportunity to open up a thread for reactions to the Superman teaser trailer, which should be online in approx. 2 hours time. It's also supposed to play during an episode of Smallville over in the States.

Saw it during "Smallville" (I'm a fan :D). I thought it looked very promising, I loved the fact that they had Marlon Brando as Jor-El doing the voiceover. But you didn't see enough of Superman (I know it's a teaser, but still) - and the final shot of him flying back to Earth reminded of Neo in Matrix Reloaded. But still, very excited.

it's a decent teaser. From watching the online vids of the behind the scenes, it seems to be a little corny for my taste, so we'll see how it looks when the full trailer comes out. Right now I'm going to go see it no matter what, but I'm not all that excited yet.
I voted 'very good'. I was hoping for a more inspiring trailer, though.
I didn't get a spine-tingle, but it's just a teaser I suppose.

I got chills when John Williams' music started. And seeing Brandon Routh as Superman, in costume flying around made me believe that he'll pull it off. I can't wait to catch this.

Doesn't look too promising. Although, I'm not a fan of Supes or the choice of actress for Lois Lane. I personally would have gone with Selma Blair. Right now, I'm not at all interested in seeing it.

Guess Im just not a Superman fan (I should change my avatar). I mean the trailer was alright but it really didnt seem much better than some of those fan trailers that were floating around a while back. The trailer didnt really make me feel like I HAVE to see it and I still dont have much desire too.

I thought the point of teasers were to get the potential audience interested, not bore them to death. I was appalled at the lack of ANYTHING going on in this. Lets hope the trailer during harry potter 4 is good, because its the only reason I'm going to see the godamn movie.

Seems pretty good to me even though I found the trailer slightly boring. Brandon Routh looks good in the Supes-get-up and I've got good hopes that he'll pull it off nicely.

Atleast it wasnt a crappy logo effect. I got hyped for it the minute i heard the score and the voice over. Decent trailer 7/10.
I was hoping to see a little dialogue, or at least some active performance from Routh in the trailer. For some reason Singer seems to be hiding the performance of Routh. In all of the 'blogs' so far, Routh has only fleetingly appeared in a few of them (just standing there mostly), and doesn't say a word.
Another thing that is not clear about this film is its intentions. The trailer says nothing about the film. Instead of showing a random series of shots, why not use the teaser to say something.
Neither the trailer nor the posters say "Superman Returns", they just say "Returns" below the logo. A lot of people aren't going to pick up on the title. It looks like a remake from that teaser.

IT'S PERFECT!
Unlike other trailers that show you "crucial" parts of the movie, give away too much of the plot, or just f**k up the whole movie in general, this works. Gives ya little, walks away...AND YOU WANT MORE!

It was ok but i was hoping for more footage and more of an intense feeling and definitely higher pitched tone in the background music. Good but dissapointing. Then again I don't like superman that much...
I'd say: " don't do this and save money for a second and thrid batman film. that franchise is something worth continuing till the day i die "
Then, when I die, invest in superman:D :p

the casting in this movie still sucks. this guy doesnt look like he's playing Superman, he looks like he's playing Christopher Reever playing Superman. And Kate Bosworth, can either look hidiusly ugly, or ehhh pretty cute. She isnt hot. Also, doesnt Superman have any other villians but Luthor?

GOT ME KIND OF MISTY WATCHING IT.
As a fan of the Richard Donner films, I have no doubts that Singer will turn out an awesome Superman entry and I really dig the direction that this film is taking i.e. it's a legitimate sequel not a reimagining ala Batman Begins. Kevin Spacey is the perfect casting for Lex Luthor.
Thouroughly awesome teaser!

Not to much to where it gives away the movie, but enough to let us know where its going.

Darkseid is the other BiG Supes villian, but Lex Luthor is the main one. Most of the other supes' villians are carbon copies of each other, can anyone, really, tell the difference between imperiex and doomsday? I sure as heck can't, and I'm a big time comic book guy. The only other one whose REALLY interesting, other than Lex and Darkseid, is perhaps THE most interesting villian around, aside from the Joker:
Bizarro Superman
Yup, our own, beloved, post-crisis, Bizarro #1. Created from the mind of the Joker himself during the reign of Emperor Joker (Bizarro #1's origin story is a tall tale in and of itself, see, the Joker woke up one day with ultimate power, and.....), with all the powers of superman, but a brain put in backwards (heat breath and ice vision), his best friend, batzarro, always carries a gun, and spends all his time trying to re-create, in a lady mcbeth type fashion, the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne.

How about:
Metallo?
The Toyman?
Parasite?
Braniac?
Just off of the top of my head, but he had a lot of good villains. If Superman Returns is successful, we may see them soon.
Brainiac is one of the other big post-crisis villians. Supes' first stringers are Darkseid and Lex though (much like Batman's first stringers are Ra's and the Joker). Metallo really isn't a "biggie", and Toyman has been in canonical exile ever since he got the seat on the original legion of doom over the Joker. Haven't seen parasite around in a while, either.
and, of course, if the singer movies are sequels to the Richard Donner flicks, that means that General zod won't be making a reappearance in a future singer movie. Although, with modern Superman lore, you'd think that the entire population of the analog of Arkymn Asylum that they must have had on Krypton someone escaped the destruction of the planet and wound up on earth.

Singer has said that he's treating the first two films as a 'vague history', and those are his exact words. So, I suppose there is scope for Zod to come back through some narrative device.
The Superman universe doesn't really have the luxury of well-known bad-guys like Batman or Spider-Man. Ask the average person on the street, and they'd probably say Lex Luthor, so for the sequels they are going to have to be careful that they don't alienate people with a wacky bad-guy.
To be honest, I think Superman's less well-known villains are really shite compared to Lex and Zod. Brainiac? Fuck, that sounds like some Disney bad-guy.

Although Superman unfortunately doesnt have a great roster of villians like Spider-Man or Batman, I think the Superman Animated Series demonstrated that Brainiac does indeed have great potential to be something truly memorable. Actually, I prefer the animated origin of Brainiac over the one that has been done during the Post-Crisis Universe.
As far as the name is concerned, I can look past how silly it might sound. I mean come on. Green Goblin? Doc Ock? Those names are IMHO, equally as absurd as the name "Brainiac". But it can work.
For instance, I dont remember anywhere in Spider-Man 2 where Otto Octavius referred to himself as Doc Ock/Doctor Octopus.
It's basically the name the press gave him. The same type of scenario could be executed with Brainiac as well. As it could just be the name the press gives him ... it.

Ottman only wished he could write something that good.
I really liked this teaser, and despite everything that's annoying me about this film it managed to impress me. I guess the John Williams music and Marlin Brando voice over really hit the spot, and the last few shots in this teaser looked beautiful. To me this is what a teaser should be, this and the teaser for The Fountain are some of the best teases I've seen in a while.

From the pictures I've seen, I would have to disagree.
In some photos he looks pretty built, very athletic, and in some shots I've seen of him in the suit, he looks less so. I don't really know what to think yet.
Singer said, at the start of production, that the suit should be airbrushed very carefully in places to highlight the muscle, as body suits tend to flatten out muscles, yet, I don't see any of this on the suit. The Spider-Man suit looked perfect, highlighting the muscles, etc, but the Superman suit looks all-round bland.
I'm disappointed that I am still negative about the suit. I've not seen a single image yet that makes me like it. Come on Warner.Bros! Release a few really good images, I want to like it.
Here's some images that a few of you might not have seen. Note - The first two images are actual property of Warner.Bros who weren't happy that they got out, naturally, they got plastered all over the net. I think they must be test images of some kind. either way, the first image makes the suit look horrible.

On the topic of Reeve and Routh- I'd have to say they do look basically the same size as far as muscle mass goes- The only real difference is that Reeve's face is thicker than Routh's, giving a first impression that he's bigger and that Routh is much skinnier.

neg. There were no behind the scenes shit for BB so I couldn't tell that.
There's plenty of behind the scenes in this one. I just loved how BB told a dark, realistic comic-book story. I'm not the biggest fantasy type of person, so I'd go for a realistic super-hero movie anytime over a corny almost fantasy type i.e. Spider-Man. again all my opinions.
Saw it in front of Potter.
The music, jumping over the field, the flying in front of the sun, and narration sold it for me. Big time.
Everyone that sounds disappointed is coming off like they wanted the TRAILER, with Lex, and Lois, and Doomsday, and Terrence Stamp, and blah blah blah. Not that I am one to blame you, but I'm enjoying the minimal approach.
It makes the feats of flying and using his powers all the more stunning.
