View Full Version : What the fuck is wrong with people?!

I saw the Goblet of Fire this afternoon with my mom, and saw it yesterday alone while everyone else was at school or work. Here's my question: why do parents insist on bringing their toddler or younger-than-six children to a PG-13 movie? The first fifteen minutes today, a baby wouldn't stop crying so his mother had to take him outside at least three times. And of course, everytime she got up, she blocked my view of the screen. Lovely: I can't see or hear it. Yesterday, I was surrounded by three talkative (not crying, thank God!) kids, but they weren't too bad until the very end. These events brought up memories of when I went to see the Return of the King midnight premiere last year: at least two people had to bring their infant children to a PG-13 film at 12:00 am! If the child is too young to view a movie in theaters, but you really want to seeit, wait until you find a babysitter or wait for the DVD. Don't ruin the movie for everyone else by bringing a child who'll do nothing but talk and/or cry the whole time.

Another issue: leave the goddamn cell phones off! A missed call from your boy/girlfriend is not going to kill you! Please leave them off or silenced like the ad says! Apparently, if you leave the theater to talk on the phone you're not really tht interested in what's happening on the screen. You wanna talk, stay at home or leave discreetly and do it in the lobby. When I went to see Corpse Bride last month, a guy got a call during the movie. He didn't leave until he was already in conversation with the caller. He pissed me off so much I actually told him to get out, something I rarely do in the theater. Also, no one seems to notice how bright those lights are until they're in near complete darkness. Some people today came in late and used the light on their phone to find a seat (the theater was crowded); I'm sure everyone really enjoyed having a bright light flashed in their faces!

Okay. I'm done now. I feel better.

i soooo agree with you! i really recognize the phonecall-part, i went to War of the Worlds, and right in the middle of the exciting scene. A man got a call and started talking so loud, instead of the movie i could hear his silly conversation about how the movie is and what he thinks about it... the asshole.. and not a minute nooo for the whole exciting scene of wotw!!
pff.. some people..

The only bad experience I had was when I was watching Antwone Fisher this baby wouldn't stop crying. It was pretty annoying. It was amazing that I was still able to enjoy the movie.

Also, a couple of times the security gaurd would walk around and his walkie talkie would make noise. That would be annoying.

Other than that, I've been pretty lucky.

Yeah, I don't get the toddler to the movie thing -- It's kind of too much stimulation for a kid. Loud noises and all...

My first movie experience was the drive-in when I was maybe 4. That seems like a good experience. I was a pretty well-behaved kid, but even still - it would have been hard for me to bug other movie watchers.

That's pretty cool that some theaters have nurseries - has anyone else seem that?

I saw a family bring in kids around 5 to 6 years old. It still pisses me off to think about the morons that are breeding and exposing their kids to whatever pops out on TV, in film. or in print.

If someone is talking on there cell phone, I always say the same thing: SHUT THE FUCK UP! You would be surprised at how many people are completely silent for the rest of the movie.

Welcome, Ki'esha Foxx. You are not alone.
People who leave their cellphones on during a movie: SUCK!
People who bring their screaming children to a movie: SUCK!

If you really want to hear something, get to a noon showing of a "kid friendly" movie twenty minutes before the movie starts. You'll hear the babies tuning up like an orchestra, drinking little cups of tea to broaden their voices and collaberating on what parts of the theater they can sit in to get full effect.

:(

See ya at the movies!

Amen to that. I try to go to matinees during the week - not only are they cheaper, but less people to deal with and that means it's less likely that some prick will talk on their cell phone or bring a tot to the movies.

Though, apparently, it doesn't always work out for me. Went and saw A History of Violence a few weeks ago and a family came in with what had to be, at the most, a 6 year old . . . TO A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE. The kid was wondering all over the place being loud as shit. The family was a row behind me and the kid was walking all over the theater!! It even walked up to me at one point and still talking - not to me - just talking and spouting nonsense.

Good Lord - sometimes I fear for this country.

I'm surprised you were able to enjoy Antwone Fisher regardless.

What really pisses me off is when staff members come into the theater with a flashlight and go make sure the door is closed in the MIDDLE O THE MOVIE. It's pointless, and they do it regardless of the movie or time (because you know you're going to have a lot of pesky teenagers sneaking into a 12:05 showing of The Weather Man on a Monday halfway through)

My thoughts:

Children are not mentally scarred or turn into psychos from watching violent/sexual movies unless they're REALLY STUPID or have some kind of mental condition. So in theory there's nothing wrong with the child watching it....

HOWEVER

Said children tend to be annoying and talkative and loud during films in the cinema were everyone else just wants them to sit back and STFU. This isnt actually all that common were I live becuase mostly they shut up when the film starts (not trailers tho) but it seems in the States the situation is different.

When I went to a preview screening of The Devil's Rejects earlier this year, someone (read: dumbass) brought their two little kids with them. At least three times I saw them running up and down the aisle during the movie. Okay, so it's not enough that you're bringing children under the age of a ten to an R-rated film titled "The Devil's Rejects", but you can't be bothered to keep them seated during the movie. Brilliant.

Oh, and one time I saw Return of the King (either the second or third time, but that's beside the point)...I was sitting a couple seats away from this old couple; all through the movie they were talking - not whispering, TALKING, like they were watching the movie in their living room rather than a theater full of people. And the woman kept making this annoying "Hmmmmmmmmm!" sound every time something happened on screen that she found interesting...which was every ten of fifteen seconds. I tried shushing them a couple times, but they kept on going. I guess politeness counts for nothing, whether you're the one making the noise or the one trying to silence it.

I definitely agree with this rant. I've had to sit through too many movies that had crying babies, running children and cell phone freaks in the theater. When I went to see Freddy vs. Jason, someone brought their BABY into the theater. A BABY. IN AN R RATED SLASHER. I don't care if you can't get a babysitter; if you can't get one, wait til you can or wait for the DVD.

When I went to see Batman Begins the first time, this couple brought their children who for about a good 2/3 of the movie running up and down the stairs.

When I went to see The Devil's Rejects this guy RIGHT NEXT TO ME'S PHONE rang not once...but twice. And he answers the phone BOTH TIMES. He doesn't turn it off...he ANSWERS it. And the funny thing is the second time he actually tells his friend, "Stop calling me dude, I'm trying to watch the movie!"

My gosh, people are just STUPID nowadays. Stupid and inconsiderate.

Here's a question for you - Has anyone been with someone who had a cell phone go off in the theater?

I have twice. One time the person took the call, but I didn't know them that well. The other time, I was in no condition to drive, and they were my ride.

No doubt though - it annoyed me. I bet I'll forget one day though. Usually I leave my phone at home. One time I left it on during a meeting, but that worked out because two other people's phone went off.

I saw Spartan in theaters. Here's the one sided conversation as I remember it:

"Hello?...I'm in a movie... Spartan....Spartan....S-P-A-R-T-A-N...Doesn't matter, it's a bad movie anyway."

Keep in mind this asshole was talking as if he was in his house with someone in the other room. And yes, the fucker had to spell Spartan to the dumbfuck who was on the other end.

I think it's incredibly selfish to bring little kids to movies rated PG13 and up. Everyone always tells you - 'Once you have kids, your life is over!' and I guess people don't believe it... If you can't get a sitter then guess what?? You need to stay home with your kids instead of ruining everyone else's movie-going experience with your extreme display of SELFISHNESS. It blows my mind to go to a midnight showing of something utterly graphic and violent and STILL see parents towing in little tiny kids... That is some messed up shit.

Normally I just look at them and say "I'm going to rip off your manhood if you keep talking." But when I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory an ENTIRE summer camp was at the theatre and we had to go out back and smoke some herb so we wouldn't mind 30 kids screaming random shit that had nothing to do with the movie, at one point a kid SCREAMED 'I LIKE THIS MOVIE!' Good for you junior, good for you.

When I went to see Land of the Dead these blacks girls sat in front of me and they just kept talking. I told them to shut up and I couldn't believe what they said. They called me a Racist! To quote I said "I'm not a fucking racist but I will be a murderer if you three bitches keep talking!"

Did I mean what I said...no. Am I crazy? Just a little:D I just knew that was the only way to shut em up.

Hahaha... that's funny as hell.

The only thing I disagree with the kids part is if the kids are good in the theater.

I used to watch Friday the 13th films when I was 8, so I could see if a child went to see a horror movie, but if they're there, and walking around and going nuts I think it's stupid.

When I was Ten my parents took me to see Bordello of Blood... I think they only thought it was Tales from the Crypt not realising the Bordello part, and since they had a Tales Cartoon my parents didn't really think about it too much. (I was into horror, and they knew I knew it was fake so it was all good). They did sorta regret it afterwards not realizing how bad it was acctually going to be, but even so, the whole time I just sat back and watched the movie. I didn't make any noise or screamed out or talked on a phone (even though back then cell phones were rare and if you had one it was probably the old Zach Morris phone).

So it depends on the kids I think as well. If the kids good, than you can take them to a threater.

I don't go to the cinema anymore. It's as simple as that. I have VERY low tolerance levels for this sort of behaviour, and since it happens EVERY time I go to the movies, I know not much is going to change any time soon. People can be inconsiderate idiots and, unfortunately, a great majority of them go to the cinema.

One thing about cell phones - not just people talking on them, but people messaging on them as well. What are you doing at the movies if you're going to spend the entire time looking at your cell phone screen and not the movie screen?

I saw Beverly Hills Cop in the theater when I was maybe 8 - My parents let me go in while they went to see 2010.

I was a pretty well-behaved kid and loved sitting quietly to watch movies, though - no guff from me being there. I saw dozens of movies like this and was always really quiet. It seems lately, people care a lot more and will just immediately tell ushers when they see kids alone in the theaters.

Generally, kids aren't that cool and don't pay much attention to the movie, but I think you shouldn't immediately expect kids to act like deviants. When I went to see Revenge of the Sith, I got seated behind a birthday party -- there were probably a dozen little ones, and they were all really quiet. (ESPECIALLY at the last 15 minutes. HAHA. Long car ride home, I bet. :D)

I agree with Bubba, just because there is kids in the theatre doesn't mean they are going to be loud.

Infact I would go as far as to say that 75% of kids act just fine in theatres, the only problem is it only takes 1 loud kid and 2 bad parents to 'ruin' a movie.

Also... on that note, there are far more annoying and loud adults than children in most movies.

When I saw Walk The Line, There were these teenagers talking and being annoying. I kept quiet for a long time. Then they sat afew seats close to me. Around 90 or 100 minutes, I lost it and said "Hey, Shut the fuck up" and one of them said "I'm going to jump that bitch". They walked away!

Not all kids and teens are bad.

I've been in theaters with well-behaved kids before as well - that's a good point to bring up (in this thread). I just have a problem with these kids and adults who don't seem to realize that a theater is a quiet atmosphere. I get really pissed at parents who won't keep their kids still and/or quiet, people who have no respect for others in the theater by talking to each other or on their cellphones, and little brats who go in with their friends and not catching any of the movie because they're trying to be a smartass in front of their buddies. I can't believe these people dish out $10+ to go to a movie and not watch it.

Every word you just said, I agree with completely.

Here's a question though. The kids who were talking irratably, were they saying what was about to happen next?

When I went to see HP 2, I was unfortunate enough to have five little kids sitting behind me who were mad HP readers. Instead of being able to watch the movie and enjoy it, I had them telling each other what was going to happen in the next two minutes of every scene. The thing that pissed me off the most was that they had all read the book, so they all knew what was going to happen. They didn't need to be telling each other! Anyway my cousin and I eventually turned around and told them to shut the fuck up. Its amazing how quiet little kids go when you swear at them. Call me a prick, but if you were there you would have done the same thing. Fucking little shits.

No; I couldn't make out what they were saying, not that I was trying too hard, but it still annoyed me that all I could hear as background noise instead of the music was whispering. I had also read the book before I went to see it so I knew what was gonna happen, but I also went alone so no one could sit next to me and repeat it to me over and over again. Luckily, when I first saw it it was during the day so most everyone was at school or work and there weren't too many people in the theater. They weren't too bad until the last ten minutes when they started asking their parents what everything meant or something.
