NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I hated Peter Pan. Every Harry Potter movie has been better than the last, why change the writer now when he is doing a great job?

It has been reported that OOTP is going to start filming in February of next year so that it can be released in 2007.
I was reading an article by Steve Kloves (screenwriter) in the LA Times. Even though he has adapted all of the books up to this point, he optioned out of book 5. The work on book 5 started last year with the new screenwrite, Michael Goldenberg, the screenwriter of Peter Pan. In the meantime Kloves will write/direct a film of his own.
He will start working on the script for Book 6 in the near future. Kloves told this to the LA Times:
When Kloves read No. 6, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," he found himself regretting his decision [to not adapt No. 5] even more. He mentioned this to Jeff Robinov, production president at Warner Bros., who instantly welcomed him back — because everyone is happy with the work Kloves had done and also because this means Warner Bros. can have two writers working almost simultaneously. Goldberg started on "Phoenix" last year — "Right about now he's realizing he'll be working on it another year," Kloves says with a small smile — and Kloves will soon start "The Half-Blood Prince." "They want to film the two as close to back-to-back as they can," Kloves says. "Because the kids are really starting to grow up. And if we lose the kids, if they have to recast for six or seven, I think we will lose the movies. That's what makes them magic."
This is the first clue that producers are thinking about filming Book 6 in the near future. Lets hope that they can keep the magic coming. I'd hate to see the series die after OOTP. At present, all of the characters are contracted on a per movie basis. Hopefully these kids are smart enough to make WB pay for that contract format.
Full article can be read here. There are spoilers for book 6 in the following link: http://www.calendarlive.com/movies/cl-ca-kloves20nov20,0,5765873.story?coll=cl-movies

LOL...good stuff.
Just so you guys know, my post was supposed to be the first post.
Please re-edit your first post, dragon.

I'm a bit worried about how Book 5 will turn out as well. Kloves is probably one of the biggest authority figures when it comes to the HP series. In my opinion, he is one of the factors that keeps the continuity of the series.
But I think that things will be fine.

" I think we will lose the movies"
I agree, the kids have to stay

I do agree that the kids need to stay. Matter of fact, all the actors should stay, if you ask me -- Richard Harris's unfortunate passing definitely killed some of the magic for me, not only because Michael Gambon isn't nearly as good and subtle and loveable a Dumbledore, but because when you start watching the movies together, it's just -- not -- the -- same -- guy. And it takes you out of it.
I think Kloves is right and this applies even more to the kids. You're growing up with Potter and Hermione and Ron as the books go, so you need to watch the actors grow up too for that part of the magic to be intact.
I just hope they won't rush it and lose quality. The first two films were mehs, but AZKABAN and GOBLET OF FIRE have really picked up quality, so I'd hate to see one or both of the next two go to shit.

The reason why Azkaban and Goblet were good is because they are darker. That's what I am loving about Harry Potter. As the films go on, they get darker and more adult.

Just because Steve Kloves is not writing the screenplay for Order of the Phoenix does not necessarily mean it all goes down from here. A change in writers could be good for a short while -- it could be good you know. The directors have changed each time since chamber of secrets and that does not seemed to have hurt the films.
Yes it was a tragedy that Richard Harris died but Michael Gambon is doing the best job he can do, and he was the best replacement they could have got, apart from Sir Ian McKellen (who was busy at the time filming Lord of the Rings).
I agree that all of the cast (especially the main 3) should stay on to finish all 7 movies. Even though, i've heard rumours that Emma Watson was not going to commit to more movies beyond the fifth movie, which would be a mistake. As what's the point in not doing the rest??

actually i read an article somwhere (i think) that emma watson sign on for the last 2 movies essentially locking up all 3 actors till the end..which is good news..and yeah it was a tragedy to lose Richard Harris which brought the gentleness of Dumbledore from book to screen and as for Michael Gambon-i dont know-for some reason Gambon or director decided to portrait Dumbledore as more rough looking and intimitading than he was in Azkaban..i think thats why i didnt like GOF that much..among other things
