What do you guys think? I remember the insane hype and anticapation when the word got out that a Freddy Vs. Jason would actually be made. I remember alot of horror fans either loving it the death or hating it.

I was one of the ones that loved it to death. But do you think it will become a horror classic like the original Nightmare and Friday films?

Probably not. Even know it's the first good Jason flick since Part 7, and the first good Freddy flick in god knows how long, but it was still no where near the brilliance of Friday the 13th Part 6 or the original Nightmare on Elm Street. If FvJ 2 ever comes out and they do it right then that might become a classic.

Classic? Not a chance. Cult classic, maybe. And that's a big maybe.

I love the movie, but I admit that it wasn't great in terms of quality.

It's an entertaining film, but it will never be a classic.

I think it will. In another 50 years, it will be next "Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man." It is considered a good F13/Nightmare movie by majority of horror fans, is among the best F13/Nightmare movie in years, so it will be a classic.

Actually, I think it's a mediocre film. It's dumb, but entertaining.

But a classic? Not even close. IMO.

Even though it was an excellent movie, I doubt that it will become a classic. But who knows...maybe in 20 years it will be.

While Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man is a classic amongst horror freaks, it's not as recognizable to mainstream folks as, say, Dracula. FVJ can only be a cult classic. Even that is a minute possibility, as more and more people have proclaimed their distaste for the film since it was released.

I love FVJ and see it as a Cult Classic.

I think it will DEFINETLY be a cult classic, at the least.
I have noticed a lot of non-horror fans own "FvJ" on DVD. Hell my girlfriend`s dad owns it.

It should be, I already consider it one :D

But I agree with everyone else, it'll most likely be considered "cult classic" than anything else.

Maybe I was mistaken about it being classic. Cult classic instead. When you consider that FvJ was the first versus movie in decades, and given the source material, turned out to be a decent and entertaining movie...it will have to be considered classic to some degree. I think it is fair to say that most horror fans really liked this movie. And, I also think is fair to assess that it attracted some of the non-iniated too for interest. And not to mention, the critics were slightly nicer to this movie than most of the F13/Nightmare films. Now matter how many claim it to be a "bad" movie, it is destined to become a cult-classic.

No I don't think so I mean it's a good movie, really entertaining but sorry it's not enough to be a cult movie.

No. Good for the fans but not a quality movie. Truth be told, I already forgot about it. Only enters the minds of rabid jason and freddy fans often.

Hey, poop.

Sorry couldn’t resist the ‘Cape Fear’ joke, but in all seriousness---The best way to sum it up, ‘Freddy VS Jason’ is what it is, it has its audience and legions of fans. This film was made strictly for that demographic, the fans of both the Friday & Nightmare series, which is fine.

Freddy and Jason have become iconic and rightly so, when you get right down to it, one could make the argument that the original ‘Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street’ have already gained classic status.

So in a sense the fans themselves already consider these respective masters of slice and dice classic figures that have made their mark in the horror genre and enforced it.

Remember what was done back in the day with the ‘ Universal Monsters’, sure The Wolf Man, and Frankenstein had solo films. But they soon crossed over with ‘Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man’ (1943). A film like Freddy vs. Jason was an eventuality because the fans wanted this showdown for many years.

The way I see it, Freddy VS Jason is already classic and a historical horror footnote in the hearts and minds of its fans.
