What the hell ever happened to that guy? He started off strong, maintained for a few years, got mediocre, then he just faded into total obscurity. It almost seems like he's been forgotten. The most recent thing I've seen with his name attached to it was New Port South (straight to video) about 3 years ago, written by his son. He hasn't directed a thing since Curly Sue in '91, and that was pretty mediocre.

I continually check for news updates at various websites dedicated to him, but they're usually few and far between, and nothing really important (except maybe the Ferris Bueller SE coming out).

I wonder if he'll ever make a comeback...or even if he's still got it?

What do you guys think?

He may have not done anything directing-wise but looks like he doin the PRODUCER/WRITER route at the moment....

And lets not forget "Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back" where Kevin Smith & Jason Mewes talks about John Hughes in the begining of the movie! :D

*UPDATE*
WHOOPS it was actually Mewes & Linda Fiorentino and its "Dogma" and there is a quote from the movie where there is a reference to John Hughes...

Bethany: McEnry is pretty far from Jersey, might I ask what brings you guys to Illinois?
Jay: Some fuck named John Hughes.
Bethany: "16 Candles" John Hughes?
Jay: You know him too? That fucking guy. Made this flick "16 Candles" right? Not bad it's got tits in it, but no bush. Of course Ebert over here don't give a shit about that stuff cause he's all in love with this John Hughes guy and rents every one of his movies. Fucking "Breakfast Club" all these stupid kids actually show up to detention, fucking "Weird Science" where this one chick wants to take off her gear and get down, but aw, no she don't cause it's a PG movie, and then there's "Pretty In Pink" which I can't watch with this tubby muthafucker any more, because everytime we get to the part where the red head hooks up with her dream guy, he starts sobbin' like a little eight-year-old with a skinned knee and shit. And nothing is worse then watching a fat man weep.

John definately rocked in the 80s but why is he not as active today? uhhhhhhh dunno :(

I totally forgot about his alter ego Edmond Dantes. Last thing I saw written by "ED" was Beethoven (pretty good). I would've never guessed with Just Visiting or Maid In Manhattan though (they didn't really interest me). Reach The Rock was good too, but nothing like his earlier brilliance.
