I am in the process of brainstorming for my next film which is based on the story of Snow White. It's not the Disney version by any means. It dates back much further.

The basic plot is like this: While pregnant with her lover's child, Queen Mary wishes her new born to be blessed with hair as black as ebony, lips as red as blood, and skin as white as snow. Her wish is granted, but soon after the child is born, tragedy strikes, leaving her lover dead and the king angry. Now, caught in a loveless marraige, Mary grows to love her child, Snow White more than anything else. 7 years later, princess Snow White wanders the village in search of a present for her mother. She finds an antique mirror sold by an frightening old man who promises that Mary will be able to wish whatever she wants from the mirror. Mary is pleased with her daughter's kindness and begins to use the mirror. Soon, demonic faces and apparations appear to Mary. It becomes clear that something evil wants Mary's soul. In a spell of possession, Mary orders Snow white to be taken away and killed, but for her lungs and liver to be brought back for a sacrifice for her mirror. The kinds huntsman Samuel agrees to this, but leaves the child alone instead of killing her. Snow White makes her way to a small cottage where she finds 7 beds, chairs, and a small table full of food. When the inhabitants return, though, Snow White is frightened. They all wear white masks to hide their distorted features that caused them to be outcasts in society. I think you know the rest of the story.

What I need is thoughts t about how to make the characters, anything gross or gory, anything creepy or scary, anything. I need help. The story is too dark for a kids' movie, but too light for an adult film. I really need help.
