View Full Version : So They Got the Da Vinci Code Coming Along...How About Angels & Demons?

Just to get this out of the way, I am a huge fan of both of these Dan Brown novels, and yes, I know that they are not completely fact, so I hope no one starts ranting about what a raving lunatic I am.
Brown has created two very interesting, intriging, and down right fantastic stories that have sold like hotcakes over the years, and as many fans know, The Da Vinci Code is due out sometime next year.
But what I wanna know, is will Ron Howard and the crew tackle Angels & Demons, because, to be honest, I loved A & D more than "The Da Vinci Code." I'm not saying that "Code" was no good...quite the contrary; it was fantastic. But for me, "Angels and Demons" was even better, and it was written before "Code."
Maybe they already are in the talks for this prequel to take place. If they are, then Howard and crew deserve a pat on the back. If they're not, then why not? Has anyone hear any news on this?

I agree that angels and demons is better and they should make a movie. But if they do maybe it shouldn't be ron howard. I mean I'm not one to judge since i haven't seen the film but angels and demons can be very different in some ways. For instance it has more violence and another thing is that it is more of a major conspiracy with alot more oomph and sort of a religious horror thriller. the da vinci code more like a smaller conspiracy and is more like a smart well played out catchy thriller. I don't think they should get ron howard to do A&D. Maybe someone like steven spielberg though he has an awful lot on his plate. I would love to see spielberg do that. Now i might soud crazy to some but another good person to do the job would be BROKEN FLOWERS director Jim Jarmusch. Just a thought.

Hell yeah should they make Angels and Demons! (and knowing Hollywood and it's sequel-addiction, they probably will...)

I was thinking the exact same thing after reading "Angels & Demons." I thought the book was downright awesome. Suspenseful from beginning to end. I'm reading "The Da Vinci Code" as I type this (it's in front me right now) and think it's freakin' good as well. I'm thinking they made DVC first just because of its popularity all over. I do hope they decide to make A&D eventually.

It will depend on the popularity of Code, but I'm sure it will do well, so we will probably see A&D eventually.

Both books are amazing, but I think A & D would make an even better movie. The book brings out so much imagery with Vatican City and Rome.

I agree. Angels and Demons might have to wait and see how well The Da Vinci Code does before it can be put into production. But, judging from the excited way nearly all of my friends told me I should read the book, it will no doubt be a big success.

Good point. I've never been to Rome...hell, never been to Europe except for when I was young, and when reading A & D, I could see clearly the landmarks and areas that Dan Brown was talking about.

That doesn't sound crazy at all. He is a fantastic director, all though I'm not a huge fan of all his work. I could easily see him bring to the table exactly what A & D needs. Ghost Dog anyone?
However, I also think that Ron Howard is as much capable. I love his work, which is still weird for me to say, because I hated the sight of him as a child (every day my dad would come home and want to watch The Andy Griffith Show reruns and I hated 'em).

What is ghost dog about, BTW? (I've only seen him do broken flowers). Yes, I'm sure ron howard would still do something very good but i don't know. I've only seen him do Willow cinderella man
(might of seen more that i'm not aware of) but i don't think the guy who does something like that would do as good as someone like jim jarmusch after i've sen his fantastic new movie. He would give a great script that would be almost as interesting as the book and typecast the movie right and the gore part is something he'd be great at doing because i can see he is very artistic and the violence in A&D is done in an artistic kind of way with the bodies displayed and stuff. Zhang yimou would also be great after i saw what he did with HERO. John madden and the guy who directed the constant gardener would be brilliant as well.

In a nutshell, Ghost Dog is about an African-American hitman living in New York who lives by the code of the samurai. He is hired out by the mob to do contract killings, but is one day betrayed by the same people who have used him for so long. It's a fantastic film.

Compared to Kill Bill, no. But then again, most movies aren't as violent as compared to most of Tarintino's flicks. It has been a while since I've seen it, and to be honest, I don't really pay too much attention to the violence (if it's believable; if there is Evil Dead-type of violence, I just laugh). However, from what I can remember, and since it was R, I'm sure it is. There wasn't much sex (if any), and there is strong language, so other than that, there has to be some good violence to get an R-rating, so yeah, I'd say so. But great flick.
Anyway, back to "Angels & Demons." Who do you guys think should play the main characters? Obviously, Tom Hanks would be Langdon, not only because he is going to be in The Da Vinci Code, but also because, even before he was chosen to play Langdon, he is always who I imagined would be playing him. In case you forgot the character's names, here they are:
Vittoria Vetra: CERN physicist, Leonardo's adopted daughter
Leonardo Vetra: Murder victim, CERN physicist, priest
Maximilian Kohler: Director of CERN
Commander Olivetti: Head of the Swiss Guard
Captain Elias Rocher: Member of the Swiss Guard; assistant of Commander Olivetti.
The Hasassin: Killer hired by the Illuminati
Carlo Ventresca: Camerlengo (Papal Chamberlain)
Saverio Cardinal Mortati: Member of the College of Cardinals and participant in the papal election
Gunther Glick: BBC reporter
Chinita Macri: Glick's videographer
Lieutenant Chartrand: Member of the Swiss Guard

How about casting omar shariff as the hasassin? Also maybe if the'd cast the woman playing rita skeeter in harry potter as chinita macri and kevin james as gunther glick the two would win oscars BIG FAT J/K:p They could get donald sutherland as maximilian kohler altough someone older would look much better for the role. How about anthony hopkins? Or gene hackman? Jack nicholson would always be great:)

Yeah, but it would be better if the actors playing the roles were really Swiss. Although, when I was reading the book, anytime Kohler would show up, I imagined him Professor Charles Xavier with his sleek wheelchair and ability to read minds. Ha.
It's been nearly a year since I've read these books, so I'm having a hard time remembering how I imagined these characters, and who would be good to play them.

Hey, gotta love bringing a thread back to life after 3 years of desertion!
I was searching to see if anyone has brought this up lately, and it doesn't seem so. Anyone seen the new trailer for A & D yet? Pretty much reminded me of the teaser for The Da Vinci Code, but I hope that's where the similarities end. I did like TDVC, but it felt incredibly rushed. That's probably because I had read the book a few times before seeing the movie...I don't know.
But is anyone else excited still to see Angels & Demons?
Oh, and if you want to see the trailer, it's up on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbK-r651sNI).

I for one am. I can’t read books with long chapters due to my A.D.D. So Dan Brown with his 2 page chapters kept me interested long-enough to finish his books. I have read all four and Angles and Demons was the best.

All four? Wait, what? He's written four Robert Langdon books?

No, he's written 4 books, 2 of which involved the character Langdon.

Okay, that's what I thought, lol. I have read the other two books, Deception Point and Digital Fortress, I just didn't know how many he had written in total.
