Thanks notch, I must say that I dig your list as well! You're right in that we do have very similar tastes.

And flowrchild, thanks for your comments, if I were to make a 'greatest films' list I'd certainly be taking your advice, but seeing as it's a list of favorites, I guess it just comes down to personal taste.

Good point.

Which of the movies that I haven't seen from your list (marked NA), do you recommend for me to see the most?

I'm trying to expand my horizons a bit and see all those classic movies that everyone loves.

Well flowrchild, I guess I recommend all of them about the same... but seeing as you really like 'The Godfather', then I strongly urge you to see 'Part II' sometime in the near future, as it's one of the greatest sequels in cinema history.

And if you like Woody Allen, then 'Husbands and Wives' would be another you'd probably like.

As for the two Hitchcock movies on the list, 'Vertigo' and 'Rear Window', I saw these two films without expecting to like them all too much (I only wanted to see them because everyone else always talked about them), but I ended up loving them! They're the kind of movies you can just watch again and again and again.

As for Stop Making Sense, it's a Talking Heads concert which was filmed by Jonathon Demme (the guy who later went on to make 'The Silence of the Lambs'), so if you're not a Talking Heads fan, it probably won't do much for you.

Do you have a top 20 list? If so, I'd love for you to post it... chances are I won't know a lot of the films on your list either.

Nice list, Stop Making Sense -- though I'd think Jonathan Demme's brilliant concert film would rank higher, considering you made its title your screen name http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

Here's my top 20 (the first five are my top five favorites; the other fifteen are in no particular order):

1. Fargo
2. Fight Club
3. A Christmas Story
4. The Sting
5. Stop Making Sense (this is one I can watch a thousand times and never get tired)

The Goonies
Mission: Impossible
Reservoir Dogs
2001: A Space Odyssey
Memento
The Empire Strikes Back (the other "Star Wars" films are great, but this is my fave of the series)
Run Lola Run
The Wolf Man (1941)
Rocky
"Evil Dead" trilogy
The Wizard
The Blues Brothers
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
The Blair Witch Project
The Third Man

Thanks Adam, nice to see another Talking Heads fan on the board. Oh, and great lists as well!

Would you by any chance have seen 'True Stories'? It was made in 1986, written and directed by, and also starring, Talking Heads' front man David Byrne. A wonderful, all-too-often forgotten gem in my opinion.

Thanks stopmakingsense for your recommendations! I appreciate it.

I know! "Godfather-part 2" is one of those movies I keep meaning to see but I just never get around to it for some reason. I am also in the exact same boat as you were regarding Hitchcock movies. I have never seen a single one, but I have heard from everyone how marvelous they are.

As for my list, I posted my favorite 100 here:

www.joblo.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/003214.html (http://www.joblo.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/003214.html)

Let me know if there are any on there that you'd like further information about.

Cheers!

As a matter of fact, I just watched it today (I own the DVD), and I agree wholeheartedly. It's a beautiful film about the endearing oddness of most people, and about finding beauty in simple things. That, and some great Talking Heads tunes are on display (I found myself singing "Wild Wild Life" hours after finishing the film). A true gem, indeed. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I love that movie! It's number 2 after "Annie Hall" (regarding Woody Allen flicks)
