The FPS sequence is great.

It's not a good movie. Sorry.
Here's my review (www.kcmsterpce.com/reviews/doom.html):
Summary:
A group of Marines go to investigate a distress beacon from a distant planet. Once there, they realize they are up against zombies, and other scary creatures that go bump in the dark corridors.
Review:
Oh Jesus, man. I don't know why I do this to myself sometimes... the way I go to movies I know I won't like. The thing is, there are those fleeting moments where I catch a real gem of a flick, and those are when all other bad movies that I've seen are made up for with the entertainment from those surprises (which is why I'm often sad about not seeing The Others). This is not one of those movies.
There isn't an unexpected scare in the house. Well, there MIGHT be one startle, and that's it. Maybe. If you've played the game, you've been stuck in a situation of frightening claustrophobia and tension that is never reached in the movie. Especially with Doom III. So anyways, as a horror movie, this fails. What about with action, storytelling, and overall entertainment? There are a lot of action scenes, where they shoot guns and/or do hand to hand combat. The plotline is fairly straightforward, in which we slowly come to understand the reasons for the freakish creatures that are terrorizing the Marines and former workers within the complex. The main problem with the movie is... I wasn't all that entertained.
The Rock is a pretty solid actor, and I really wish that he'd land a roll as good as The Rundown or better, so that I won't have to keep seeing sucky movies just for him. Karl Urban does alright for what he's given, which basically requires him to look solemn, and somewhat mysterious because there is some important dark history that we don't know about until late in the movie. As for the rest of the cast, they also do what they have to do, but aren't given much of a chance to be great. It's not really the acting that fails this movie, it's the predictable action that is never really all that fun to watch, along with a silly story and a badly written script which makes these people poop out really bad lines. So many times they say out loud what we can plainly see onscreen. Annoying!
Thank God there's only one part of the movie that exploits the wannabe immersive FPS (First Person Shooter) sequence in which we see a character shoot the shit out of the baddies by the view of the weapon being used, just like in the game. This is not impressive in the least, and is actually the most frustrating part of the viewing experience. I yelled out "FUCK YOU!" a few times. If I wanted to play the damned game, I'd play it. I don't get any enjoyment out of watching the game being played in a movie. Not only that, there's no suspense watching it, either. Having PLAYED the game, it's even less enthralling, because everything happens EXACTLY like the game does, including the monster getting shot, running around a corner, you not seeing it around the corner, and then suddenly appearing right in front of you. Well, I could give a play by play, but the fact of the matter is that these few minutes are completely shitty and worthless, and it cheapened the real life gaming experience for me.
In the third act, they throw in a few unexpected twists. Part of this twist involves bringing up the question of the moralities of war. Do we obey the orders of those appointed over us, or do what we feel is the greater good? Sadly, even with a low class shoot'em up gorefest like Doom, it could have been handled a lot better. This potential of bringing the movie to a higher level is shot down (literally), and instead the movie makes a darker turn for the worst.
I don't think people will go into this movie expecting much. If you like brainless action, shiny metals and dark corridors populated with loud and ugly man-suit creatures, Doom might do it for ya. I can enjoy these kinds of movies, too, but I didn't enjoy this one. I have to get this bad taste out of my mouth now, so I'm going to go watch Resident Evil.

I really like the way they make the film in FPS style, but that's only last for a while. Perhaps I had a very high expectation for this film when I saw its trailer and that makes me feel a little bit disappointed for that the story is just so-so... I would give it 5 out of 10.

The movie was great in my opinion, better than Resident Evil, that's for sure. The FPS was a nice touch and it was very violent as well which it needed to be. I'm sorry to say that it was more violent than AVP which is very sad.
(Also, Rosmaund Pike was so hot in Doom!!!)

Uh, the first person shooter sequence was kick ass, the end was also kick ass but, overall the film was boring and slow and had little action.

Only thing good about this movie was NIN in the ending credits.

Doom certainly wont win an oscar for best picture, but for what it is, I think its good enough. Most video game to movie adaptations are shite anyway, but Doom is one of the better ones that I've seen. I'd give it 6/10. Thought The Rock sucked in it though.

Entertaining enough while it lasts, but it never really transcends mediocrity until the third act. The FPS sequence is a technical innovation in itself, and extremely satifying if you're a gamer yourself.
The acting, screenplay, direction et al; all seem to improve dramatically when the film hits the third act and it becomes a whole ton of fun for 20 minutes. In fact, it's so vastly superior to the rest of the film that it becomes the sole reason to bother sitting through it, and pulls the work as a whole into the frame of "acceptable". If you're a fan of the games I'd say go see it, if even for the FPS sequence alone.

To clarify even further, the version on the Doom credits is a remix that can be found on the Doom soundtrack.

Im so sorry I never took anyones advice on this one, It truely is the worst movie I have ever seen.
Has anyone ever seen Extro 2:the second encounter becasue this is that exact movie.
I cant beleive the budget for this movie would only stretch to allow 3 rooms and a BFG.
