How do you watch your anime?

This occured might be a good topic after some comments on Naruto's dubbing.

When you can choose, do you watch the anime subbed or dubbed? Or neither becuase you speak japanese?

With one exception ("Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust"), I have never seen competent english dubbing in anime. NEVER. Some of the dubs are more offensive than others, like for instance "DragonBall Z". ALL the voices in that show when dubbed sound awful (Frieza's is just a kick in the balls). And after seeing just how well japanese people voice act ("End of Evangelion" or "Gantz" are good examples), I can't even compare.

Lucky for me, the anime channel I have and often watch is Spanish dubbed. Though the voice choices are sometimes off (Al in "Full Metal Alchemist" for instance), the voice acting is most of the times great. In the case of "Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu!" I love watching it in spanish since the 'slang' used is brilliant. The "DragonBall Z" dub in mexico is the best I've seen. I much more like it in spanish than in japanese, it's the only one I'd rather watch dubbed (but JUST the mexico dub. The spaniard dub is awful).

depends on what mood im in, most of the time ill watch anime subtitled. sometimes i wont feel like reading the subtitles though so if i have a dub ill watch that instead, but i always compare the dubbed script with the subtitles, if they're the same then i dont care which i watch (unless the dub is terrible) but i have come across a number of anime series where the dubbing is completely different to what the subtitles have so then ill stick with the subtitles

Every anime i own i watch both languages - so far Evangelion, Hellsing, GITS (movie and series) and Bebop have been fairly good dub's ive thought, plus i prefer The English dub voice of Alucard more then the jap one, but hten again they do seem similar enough to not be a big change.

Japanese in english subtitles. Dubbed anime looks and sounds dumb.

the only well dubbed animes in my opinion out there are Bebop in both English and French, Escaflowne in English and Gundam Wing in French.

Other than that, both asian and anime films/movies/series always in original language with english subs

Subed! Most of the dubed versions sound retarded. IE: Naruto for example. He sounds more like a lil' biotch than anything. As my sister would say: "I hate dubs!"

Yeah, even outside of anime (i.e. using real actors), so much is lost in the translation when the characters trip over unfamiliar foreign words.

I prefer Japanese with English subs. Sometimes it detracts from watching the action but i just can't go through those awful dubs these american retards do.

I've always watched the dubbed versions. I dunno all the dubs I've come across havent been bad. Evangelion, Bebop, Berserk, etc. Then again I havent seen that many series to begin with. Now when it comes to live action, yes I prefer subtitles as the dubbing is usually just atrocious.

Most series I would rather watch it in it Japanesse with English subtitles. I feel sometimes there is a lost in translation and its sloppy. I can't stand watching Evangelion in English, not really sure why just can't. Only time I will go with the English version if its a major motion picture like Princess Mononoke.

I watch anime subbed. It is weird because I always watch live action foreign language films in their original language with subtitles. For some reason, I like my anime with cheesy english dubs.

Subbed, at first, then dubbed to check out the work of the english voice actors.(Usually awful, but there are exceptions, like Hellsing[EXCEPT for Seras...])

Subbed all the way.. the only decent dubs I've ever seen are for Miyazaki's films. Billy Crudup really did an amazing job as Ashitaka in Princess Mononoke.

Aside from that though.. I despise English Subs almost 99% of the time!!
