The Id from Forbidden Planet? Interesting. A respectable list, but these things can never be taken seriously.

I can't believe you guys are supporting this list. Where are the boogy monsters? They are some of the biggest icons as far as movie monsters go. No Dracula? Dracula started the whole movie monster bit, this list is laughable.

It's taken from SFX Magazine, which in the UK is a well known science fiction and fantasy magazine. So every monster has to have an element of science fiction or fantasy. Which generally means monsters that have something to do with aliens, space, scientific experiments, myths and legends.
Der Golem was the first movie monster as far as I know, sixteen years before Dracula (seven if you count Nosferatu).

No, Thomas Edison's Frankenstein came before Der Golem. But even Frankie wasn't the first baddie. There were dozens of short horror films made in the early 20th century as well as the late 19th century.

I've actually seen that. It was pretty good, amazing really, when you consider the limitations of the time.

The Wolf Man deserves to be on that list. I'm more than thrilled that Godzilla beat King Kong in rank!

What is a boogy monster? It's sci-fi, Science fiction. I think all monsters that don't fit into the laws of nature are science "fiction".

"Boogeyman" is the American English term for what we in the UK call the "bogeyman", which derives from an old English term meaning the Devil. I'm not quite sure how any meaning of the boogeyman is science fiction though. Although maybe I'm being overanalytical, I've just written a huge essay on the subject of science fiction and I can't seem to get ideas and theories of it out of my head.

If you believe that the existence of a supernatural devil can exist under scientific law, then maybe it's not sci-fi to you. But to me, a monster, born by human parents, that somehow can't die lol, is science fiction. The fact that something born by humans, that can't die even though it goes through tremendous amounts of punishment is clearly science fiction to me.

I'm pretty sure the selections are made from a technical standpoint, as well. You know...maybe that's why it's in SFX?...just a thought...

Great list, very well-rounded. I would've thought though that Predators would have been higher on the list than #12. Predators are the best aliens ever created!
