To a certain extent I agree with you. Hate is used to often. I just don't think so in this case. Not only do we hate the woman we also hate the ideals behind why she is so sucessfull. In fact I would say for 90% of the people in this thread that is the thing that bothers us most.

This is just going on a slight tangent here, but still keeping with the 'ideal' image, I grew up reading those Cosmo and Dolly and Cleo magazines and all of the girls were beautiful and I was confused as to whether or not these women were the ones who were accepted as beautiful. Needless to say that didn't do much for my self-esteem.
However, while I am certainly not as insecure NOW, I still wonder why media is printing out these pictures of airbrushed women in magazines.

Exactly. How old did you say you were Tag? 20? 19? 17? And like you said it's tough growing up in a society where someone's worth seems to be gaged on their beauty. It's even harder these days. Man the pressure kids are under from such an early age to look beautifull is sick.

Recently i've noticed more and more. Kids of 10-14 walking around in next to fucking nothing or wearing the latest craze. Wether it be a colour band around their wrist or a mohican on top of their head. Magazines like you've mentioned should be fucking banned or regulated.

I hated magazines like that when I was younger still do. Only the other day I said to the missus i'm constantly in a bad mood. I wake up in a bad mood and I go to bed in a bad mood. She asked me why and I honestly didn't know. Anyway I walked out of the door and within 2 hours I new exactly why. the world we live in is just about as fucked up as it can get I think.

It's almost a decade years old case, but I THINK she was 10 or something when she was murdered.

As for why she was dressed up that way, as far as I am concerned, her parents got her into the pageants as a means to earn money quick smart. They probably had many reasons, but how they chose to exploit their daughter in order to obtain that wealth is absolutely disgusting. Here is one reason I believe Hollywood executives go for physical attractiveness (and by that I am referring to the narrow definition of beauty espoused by the media) over acting talent. Trailers! When you only have 2:30 minutes to sell an entire movie (and only :30-:60 seconds for TV spots) it is easier to establish quickly that someone is physically attractive than it is to establish their acting talent. It only takes a few seconds to gaze at a person and evaluate their physical attractiveness (an often objectifying practice, as many men evaluate women as a collection of body parts rather than as a whole person), whereas it takes much more time to observe an actor/actress and evaluate his/her acting chops. It's a sickening reality, but it seems to only be getting worse.

Thing is, Jessica Alba for example has had PLENTY of time in her career so far to establish the fact she has ACTING talent. Even if the MOVIE is crap, an actor who is willing to work themselves manages to elevate the films they are in.

An actor, say perhaps Sean Bean. He's mostly been regulated to rather mediocre films such as "National Treasure", but HE always lends his charm and capability to the role.

Alba has not yet done this, and if she is SERIOUS about wanting to be on the A-List, she should REALLY start to work on her acting chops rather than be seen swanning around in a bikini with a pount.

I agree that Scarlett, Dunst, and especially Portman are infinitely more talented than Alba. Hell . . . Correct me if I'm wrong? You essentially hate Jessica Alba because she represents an ugly and unfair aspect of our contemporary culture? I too hate that about our culture. It is unfair and it sends a terrible message to young girls. I do hate that. I just find that it is possible to hate that about society and hate that about Jessica Alba without hating her as a person . . . but that's just me.
