and what casting would you do?

I know remake threads have been done and such, but i'm interested in seeing replies and casting choices...

For me...its all about remaking films with a purpose obviously.

Neon Maniacs,Faceless,To All A Goodnight,The Final Terror are among candidates for me.

I'll throw up picks for casting in a bit ey.

King Kong vs Godzilla

Since Kong is making waves in the movie biz now they might as well ride it. The original is pretty cheesy but fun. With todays F/X it could come out good. Oh Yeah, it would have to be against the "REAL" Godzilla, not the stupid American one.

Godzilla would win!

Well, I'm interested in the Hill Have Eyes and Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things if Bob Clark gets it going.

I'd like to see "The Running Man" assuming the screen writer stayed more faithful to the original book. Not Arnold Schwarzeneager!!! A really gritty movie.

FACELESS Remake
Udo Kier (Blade) as Dr. Flamand
Tony Schiena (wake of death) as Sam Morgan
Barbara Nediljakova (hostel) as Nathalie
Lance Henriksen (near dark) as Terry Hallen
Sandra Hess (mortal kombat:annihilation) as Ingrid Flamand
Jurgen Prochnow (house of the dead) as Dr. Moser
Caroline Munro (original faceless, maniac) as Mrs. Sherman
Oleg Takatorov (UFC Fighter,National Treasure) as DouDou

I always have felt this is a movie that could use a remake.Solid, fun film originally but not seen by a wide audience and had some flaws to be corrected. Of course it'd be best to have an appearance from a star or 2 of the original which is why I selected Caroline Munro...of course other stars from the original could get roles in the remake too,its only respectful..but thats the main cast.

I wanna see the Hills Have Eyes Remake. I would like to see a Phantasm remake, I even think in a few more years a Hellraiser remake would be cool, cuz it seems dated as all hell today.

I would definitely like to see a remake to Waxwork. Yes, it was a crappy 80's B-movie but with the right cast, director, and script writers, this film could kick ass. Twisted Pictures should do the film, with Leigh Whannell and David A. Armstrong heading up writing and cinematography respectively. Both worked on Saw 1 & 2 and I love the gritty look they gave both films. I don't know about the cast, it should include a good list of younger actors. Atleast Summer Glau should be in it as the girl that survives (she gives off a really good vulnerability vibe and is a strong actress, I think). And the monsters/creations should all be cameos of more recognizable actors.

I would love to see a remake of Re-Animator. That movie would be awesome in todays special effects.

Silent Night, Deadly Night or Basket Case.

Both are great horror movies but not so great the remaking them would be a travesty.

I think.

I don't think it can be improved on the original, but Visiting Hours. They would have to keep the lead female as an older woman, not some youngster from the WB or UPN shows. I think Vince Vaughn would rock as the psycho.

Apart from Jacksons Kong, I've no desire to watch a remake of any particular film. Suprisingly, I'd like to see people making horror movies, minus the candy-coated bollocks Hollywoods spewed forth in recent years. The genre is at a cross roads I feel, that said I've just watched the trailer for Hostel. Hope bleeds:D

If Hollywood MUST remake horror movies, why not stick to remaking the BAD ones?

Maybe get it right this time, etc.

The good ones are already good, why mess with success?

Other than for money, of course... :)

Listen to this man, because he knows what he's talking about!;) Thanks old bean! but remember I'm the one who wanted to see The Fog remake because I had some hope, with Debra Hill on board (no-pun intended) Wainwright might give us something worthwhile, as it is he gave us a pile of dog-burp. Anyway I've since moved on:D

Remakes might sound attractive but you only have to look at the calibre of Directors not too mention screenplay writers, to realise there are very few out there who can cut the mustard these days.

Oh and less of the old!!! ;)

none, unless I can think of a film with a great story but presented crappy.

I did think the TCM remake was a little necescary, you never fidn out what happens to that woman at the end, it just ends abruptly.

You're quite welcome my friend!

Now, as to Remakes being attractive...to some yes, but you already know my feelings on this subject.

As far as the caliber of what's out there today, once again I agree with you.

Oh,God...Did I just kiss your ass this time??? ;) :D

In all seriousness, 'Happy New Year' to you Halo!

They've been talking about remaking "I Am Legend" (i.e "Omega Man" for years now.

I remember Schwartzenegger was going to star in it at one point, then Will Smith at another.

I wish they'd make that, the book is really, really good.

‘I am legend’ was a novel written by Richard Matheson, published in 1954 and is probably my favorite piece of American literature. It’s a fantastic read as Matheson tells the tale of Robert Neville, the seemingly lone survivor of a worldwide plague who can only move about in the day, at night he holds up in his barricaded house.

Neville is the everyman, which makes him easy to relate to, a family man trapped in a world that has become a living hell populated by Vampires. The first attempt to bring Matheson’s novel to the big screen was indeed the film ‘The Last Man On Earth’ (1964) filmed in Italy with Vincent price in the lead role as Dr. Robert Morgan.

The changes made to Matheson’s work were more then apparent, yet 'Last Man' did maintain some aspects of the book, keeping the sense of hopelessness and isolation. George Romero has stated many times that ‘I am legend’ had been inspirational for his ‘Night of the Living Dead’.

‘The Last Man On Earth’ has its moments that put the Creep in Creepy!!! Despite a sort of dull pacing, it’s pretty atmospheric and disturbing. Being the tremendous talent that he was, Vincent Price turns in a very competent and emotional performance as the tortured Morgan. One of my favorite moments is early in the film, with a nighttime raid as the undead descend upon the home of the poor doctor, crying out his name in a creepy low monotone..

“Morgan---come out----come out, Morgan" (Yikes!)

Unsettling and creepy shite for sure! You can see the obvious influence that ‘Last Man’ had on Romero’s NOTLD with its creepy black and white photography and haunting tone. I actually enjoy this film and consider it a classic, It's still maintains an overall chilling feeling to it, even today.

The 2nd attempt to bring Matheson’s book to film was of course ‘The Omega Man’ (1971) with everyone’s favorite member of the NRA good ole’ Charles (Chuck) Heston! This film being a complete re-working of Matheson’s story, directed by Boris Sagal, screenplay by John William Corrington and Joyce H. Corrington. I know there are some out there that dont care for this film, too bad for them.

I had experienced 'the Omega Man' at the Drive-In back in 71' when I was around 11 years old. This version was a reflection of the 70’s style science fiction, carrying with it a strong anti-war "social commentary" which (sad but true) remains MORE relevant to this very day. I speak about a horror we all fear “Germ Warfare”, which at the time wasn’t really considered an issue by the public at large back in the early 70’s. That’s because our focus was on the fear of a Nuclear War, as the cold war paranoia still remained prevalent.

From what I have gathered Matheson was never pleased with any of his novels translating to screen, ‘The Legend of Hell House’ (1973) is the perfect example. I am Legend is a project that has been in limbo for quite few years, the 1st having ‘Ahnold’ attached to it…thank god that shit was squashed!

The awful rumor of Will Smith I believe has been bandied about by Warner Brothers at one time…. Will Fucking Smith??? Fucking please!!! This fucking guy is a load! Does that steaming pile of camel dung ‘The Wild, Wild West’ ring a BELL? Point blank, this ass wipe is NOT Robert Neville!!

NOT in a million fucking years! Will Smith is a candy ass commercialistic sorry assed mainstream movie poster boy, period. Who in the fuck makes these pathetic decisions in Hollywood anyway? Read the fucking book, you corporate structured jack-offs! Simply because I am Legend is a great book.

There is talk about a possible 2007 release...

BUT...I don’t want to see this film happen unless it’s

Richard Matheson’s original vision that is....'I Am Legend'.

I hate remakes even more these days and I shall celebrate when the trend dies, which I hope will be very soon.
I just saw the trailer for unwanted, unneeded remake of:
When A Stranger Calls
The trailer was too long, it shot it's load and it seems to me that they will just use the first part of the original film and stretch it out to 90 minutes which would be 60 minutes too long. I am also getting sick of the flashy fast rapid shit at the end of trailers. Gives me a damn head ache!

I hate the trend as well,I guess it DOES look like i'm a fan of it...in general I was asking what remakes you'd like to see. Fad or no fad (remakes DO and have happened out of this big trend era).

i would love to see a remake of alligator... i think todays technology would make the film much better, plus so many things that could be added to it... not to mention we might get a region one release of the original on dvd finally

I wouldn't refer to an adaptation of I Am Legend as a remake of either The Last Man On Earth or The Omega Man. None of those movies are within sniffing distance of being faithful or worthy adaptions. The sad thing is...unless someone with a degree of respect for the novel is in charge then it's likely that any future adaptations will be hamstrung by the Hollywood effect. The whole think will be dumbed down and the studio (and dumb fuck test audiences) will probably object to the rather bleak ending and insist on something more upbeat. This would be tragic because the final moments of the novel lead up to possibly the closest thing i've ever read to a perfect ending. It really haunted me for days.

As for remakes. I don't hate remakes. I hate bad movies. As long as a remake is entertaining (and it doesn't even have to be as good as the original to meet my criteria for entertainment) then i'm all for it.

The remakes of recent foreign movies are a little more saddening. But I can understand why the studios want to do it. Let's face it...the majority of cinema goers aren't willing to sit through a subtitled movie (and I know that there have been exceptions to this...but that's all they are...exceptions). You want proof? I give out a lot of DVDs to my co-workers and out of twenty people only two are willing to watch subtitled flicks. The others claim that reading while trying to watch a movie is too distracting. Some of them also think that subtitles = a level of intellectual weight that would be beyond the support that their puny minds can muster. Sad but true.

MadmanMARZ

In Scandinavia (north of Europe for those who didn´t know)
we have subtitles to all foreign films. In Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland and also U.S.A they dubb the movies...who´s dumbest here? The only thing we dubb is the cartoons, but also release them in original language.
I make that far superior in inteligence in my book. Don´t read the text if it disturbs you...plain and simple.

Back to remakes...
I read the script for I´m legend (I think it was the version with Schwarzenegger was attached to) and loved it.
It was no FX driven piece in the script, and it also had a great ending.

Didn´t they remake Alligator in a form of a sequel "The Mutation" in 1990 with basically the same story?

A remake that comes out during 2006 that I´m actually looking forward to is Hills have Eyes...(didn´t care for the original that much)

If it's the ending where they pass under the Golden Gate bridge in a tug boat then no...it's not good. It's an appalling liberty. In fact the end of The Omega Man (ok movie...terrible adaptation) is closer in spirit to the end of the book than the ending outlined in that script and even it missed the point by a military mile. Read the book then come back and try to convince me that the ending in the script is anywhere near as powerful. But you won't try to argue the case. Because if you read the book you'll understand what I mean. I'm not being condescending...it's just a plain fact.

OK that part would probably be better with a downbeat ending (like Omega man) where Nevill loses his fight, but the rest of them lives on...(it would be more powerful and give a meaning to the title)
I haven´t read the book, but the script was a good read and would be awsome to see.

I also wants to see the original version of Eaters of the Dead by McTiernan, but don´t know how much they shot of that movie...

I would seriously recommend getting your hands on the novel of I Am Legend. It's not a long book. You could likely start reading it early in the afternoon and finish it late evening. It's not just the best horror novel i've read. It's the best novel i've read irrespective of genre. Trust me on this one.

Agreed with Psychocandy. Once having read the book not only does the title make more sense but it also makes it mroe clear the downbeat ending is necessary to the point of the story.
