Dear God, I cant stand when movies market their shit like this. LIke with Dukes of Hazzard.
Or the most annoying of them all as of yet...American Pie 4 or whatever the fuck it is called.
Anyone else annoyed at when studios have to break out the "Unrated! Unrated! Unrated!" marketing strategy?

I was going to post this very same rant but you beat me to it.
I agree that this is an atrocious marketing technique. They expect us to go see the tame version at the theater and then rush out and buy/rent the unrated version to see the racy content that got cut out of the tehatrical edit. Then they put a huge UNRATED sign across the cover of the DVD like a badge of honor or something. It fucking blows.

Even more annoying is how it's not even necessary. They make the movies that they are releasing as 'unrated' will be full of nudity, language, and all that other 'stuff you couldn't see in theaters!" However, once you watch it, you realize that there was one scene added into the orginal with a 'fuck' in it to seem like it deserves the unrated rating.

It is what it says it is - unRATED.
Any whole film that isnt sent to the MPAA is unrated. Guess what, the movie could have ALL the naughty bits removed and be unrated. Its still true.

It's worse that now a days Unrated means R rated cut. We hardly get any hardcore unrated stuff any more. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake is one movie that needed an unrated version, one scene in the movie feels very "meh" but in the deleted scenes it's a great scene. Yet new Line throw out unrated cuts of Harold & Kumar or Wedding Crashers.

Dvd worthy of being marketed as UNRATED: Devils Rejects! Boo-ya!
Most unworthy of UNRATED title: Emily Rose.... now this pisses me off.....cause the studios know full well that people are gonna think there will be some glimpses of her exorcism, or more scary shit on the whole..they FUCKING KNOW THIS! But what is it? According to a review of the UNRATED dvd....Its nothing more than a mere 3 fucking minutes of COURTROOM EXPOSITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really liked the movie and was actually hoping an unrated version would show some of the exorcism (and no I wasnt hoping for pea soup) but I WAS expecting something along the lines of the exorcism glimpses we got in LOST SOULS (though overall the movie was a dissapointment) 3 minutes of courtroom scenes...its up to us on the internet to ALWAYS be vigilant and THWART the fucking efforts of studios when they try to scam us thru marketing.

Thanks for the heads up on Emily Rose. I was contemplating getting the unrated version, but I figured I could live without those three extra minutes.

Word. This is the best rant I've seen in a while. I agree wholeheartadly.
I actually laughed when I saw the first commercial for the Dukes of Hazzard "unrated" DVD. They shouldn't be allowed to call it unreated unless it has a Johnny Knoxville/Jessica Simpsion 10 minutes hardcore sex scene with full nudity.

Some Unrated DVDs are just bullshit. Unrated seems to be interchangable with uncut.
When I saw the unrated version of Anchorman, it felt like it was an hour too long. The extra footage actually made the film feel like it was dragging. And that, rather than the MPAA, may be the reason the footage was taken out in the first place.
But when they add this unnecessary footage in, they market it as part of an "unrated" version and this generates much more revenue for them. And thats what it ultimately is all about. Revenue.

I saw the unrated version of Cursed. It shows some gore scenes cut from the theatrical release but the film rated or unrated definitely sucked!

Well people have beaten echo to this rant too you know :)
I think that the 'UNRATED' stuff is stupid because it's probably just under a minute of extra footage, most likely a fuck or a little more blood. Some movies are not like that though, most recently is the 40 Year Old Virgin which has about 20 minutes of extra footage.
I think that UNRATED is just a more interesting way of saying EXTENDED now.

Good call - thought they seem to use unrated when there is a chance that there might be raunchy material (wedding crashers, 40 y/o, american pie) but then use extended for movies like Titanic.

I was looking at my DVD collection today, and I noticed that about 1/4 of my movies had the "Unrated" labeling.
DVDS SHOULD BE MORE LIKE WEDDING CRASHERS! It had both the theatrical version and the unrated version! THAT'S the way to do it!
I bought the "Unrated" version of THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN, and now I wish I hadn't. I mean, I was happy to watch it, but I prefer the regular edition.
Oh, and THE WORST CASE OF "UNRATED" LABELING goes to DARK WATER... it was actually 2 minutes SHORTER than the theatrical version! What the f*ck is that shit?!?!?!

instead of making an unrated version put those scenes or whatever into a deleted scenes section, unless if there is enough footage. the exorcisim of emily rose still felt like the theatrical version as did 40 year old virgin.

sadly a movie being unrated has nothing to do with racy stuff being cut out. It simply means that version wasnt submitted to the MPAA. Most people dont know that though.

I did that with Cry_Wolf, don't get me wrong, I loved the movie originally, but I thought that I was gonna get more for my money. Instead I got a few deleted scenes and extra special features and that's it. Big fuckon' whoop.
Rock On!!
