I love any kind of film but I'm less likley to watching these kind of movies, closer is an exception. Though some unexpected devestating moments would have made it better like in adaptation.

One of the best movies of last year, a film that is surprisingly effective in making you sympathize with characters that are otherwise (extreme) unlikable. Great performances all across the board, with the exception of Jude Law (ugh!). 8.5/10

I was dragged into that movie with my girlfriend and her friend. I didn't want to watch it at all. Turns out I really enjoyed it. It had excellent dialogue.

Closer - (8/10)

I quite liked Closer, very good for a purely conversation movie. 8/10.

I thought Closer was one of last year's most overrated movies. It's very well acted but acting is really all this movie has going for it. There are some nice moments and the movie starts off well but then all of a sudden it jumps forward to the future. It was an awkward transition. And it happens like that a few more times. Furthermore, character development is nil. I didn't care about the outcome for either couples. And the movie was really dull. I generously give this movie a 5/10.

Having said that, the cyber sex scene with Clive Owen and Jude Law was hilarious though! :D

Sunset Blvd.

Favorite Scene- Norma Desmond's close up.

"Well, this is where you came in, back at that pool again, the one I always wanted. It's dawn now and they must have photographed me a thousand times. Then they got a couple of pruning hooks from the garden and fished me out... ever so gently. Funny, how gentle people get with you once you're dead. "

In my top 5 of all time.

Fantastic blend of Film Noir/dark comedy/psychological drama that effectively explores and exposes the corrupt side of Hollywood through a couple of opportunists. Holden, Swanson, and von Stroheim give EXCELLENT performances, some of the best I've ever seen, and the screenplay is nothing short of memorable. 10/10

Another film that's in my top 5. Love it to death (as most people here already know) and one that I can watch a thousand times and not get bored by, as the story & characters never ceases to seem new and fresh.

My favorite moments also consists of the 'hall of mirrors' scene, as well as what happened prior to that, when 'rosebud' is revealed.

A fuckin' masterpiece.

The Last Samurai
http://www.flashfilmworks.com/MovieGuide/samurai/poster405x600.jpg

Favorite Scene- The last stand against the machine guns.

"And so the days of the Samurai had ended. Nations, like men, it is sometimes said, have their own destiny. As for the American Captain, no one knows what became of him. Some say that he died of his wounds. Others, that he returned to his own country. But I like to think he may have at last found some small measure of peace, that we all seek, and few of us ever find. Great, powerful, and emotional film. Tom Cruise did a great performance. 9/10.
Favorite scene: When Tom Cruise's character has an emotional conversation with the young boy who doesn't want him to die in battle.
Why he fights with the samurai? He says, "...because they have come to destroy, what I have come to love.

Bringing Out The Dead

Favorite Scene- The last shot.

"Saving someone's life is like falling in love. The best drug in the world. For days, sometimes weeks afterwards, you walk the streets, making infinite whatever you see. Once, for a few weeks, I couldn't feel the earth - everything I touched became lighter. Horns played in my shoes. Flowers fell from my pockets. You wonder if you've become immortal, as if you've saved your own life as well. God has passed through you. Why deny it, that for a moment there - why deny that for a moment there, God was you? "

anyway I loved this movie, one of the best I've seen in years. maybe the begininng and the end use a style that's already been done before a lot of times but if you don't see the end coming then the film has still worked. I found it unpleasent, moving, and simply filled with exhileration.

Favorite Scene- The ones with Brad Pitt.

"So the biblical scholars mis-translated the Hebrew word for "young woman" into the Greek word for "virgin," which was a pretty easy mistake to make, since there is only a subtle difference in the spelling. But back then it was the "virgin" that caught people's attention. It's not every day a virgin conceives and bears a son. So you keep that for a couple of hundred years, and the next thing you know, you have the Roman Catholic church. "

Almost Famous (7.5/10) and Apocalypse Now (8.5/10) are both films that I like less than the general public. They are definitely very good, in fact, one of them is great, but neither are among my favorite films, and far from the masterpieces people make them out to be.

The same cannot be said for Walkabout (6.5/10), which bored me stiff, in spite of its gorgeous cinematography.

Rebel Without a Cause - Arguably the greatest teen movie ever made, with James Dean in top form. So many classic scenes, from the knife fight to the car race on the cliff, to the heartwrenching ending, etc. This film really struck home for me, and it's something I'll never forget. 9.5/10

21 Grams - One of the best acted movies of this decade, the emotional content and BRILLIANT performances from Sean Penn (should've been nominated for an Oscar), Naomi Watts (should've won an Oscar), and Benicio Del Toro (should've won an Oscar) are more than enough to overcome the otherwise jumbled structure of the film. 9/10

Favorite Scene- From the police raid to the very sad ending. And of course the music.

"So in the end, was it worth it? Jesus Christ. How irreparably changed my life has become. It's always the last days of summer and I've been left out in the cold with no door to get back in. I'll grant you I've had more than my share of poignant moments. Life passes most people by when they're busy making grand plans for it. Throughout my lifetime I've left pieces of my heart here and there. And now, there's almost barely enough to stay alive. But I force a smile, knowing that my ambition far exceeded my talent. Titanic
http://media.movieweb.com/galleries/620/posters/poster1.jpg

Favorite Scene- From hitting the ice berg to the end.

"Well, yes, ma'am, I do... I mean, I got everything I need right here with me. I got air in my lungs, a few blank sheets of paper. I mean, I love waking up in the morning not knowing what's gonna happen or, who I'm gonna meet, where I'm gonna wind up. Just the other night I was sleeping under a bridge and now here I am on the grandest ship in the world having champagne with you fine people. I figure life's a gift and I don't intend on wasting it. You don't know what hand you're gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you... to make each day count. "

25th Hour - Great movie, where was Edward Norton's Oscar nomination? 8/10

Titanic - So sue me, I love this movie. Some corny dialogue aside, it's definitely the epic romance of the 90's. Winslet and Dicaprio are no Vivien Leigh & Clark Gable, but they are solid in their roles, and the ensemble does a superb job as well. I will never forget seeing this in the theatres, especially the absolutely breathtaking moment when the ship sinks. 8.5/10

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
http://www.sineport.com/poster/eski/oneflew.jpg

Favorite Scene- Anyone with Jack Nicholson.

"She was fifteen years old, going on thirty-five, Doc, and she told me she was eighteen, she was very willing, I practically had to take to sewing my pants shut. Between you and me, uh, she might have been fifteen, but when you get that little red beaver right up there in front of you, I don't think it's crazy at all and I don't think you do either. No man alive could resist that, and that's why I got into jail to begin with. And now they're telling me I'm crazy over here because I don't sit there like a goddamn vegetable. Don't make a bit of sense to me. If that's what's being crazy is, then I'm senseless, out of it, gone-down-the-road, wacko. But no more, no less, that's it. "

I killed another girl with a chainsaw, I had to, she almost got away and uh someone else there I can't remember maybe a model, but she's dead too. And Paul Allen. I killed Paul Allen with an axe in the face, his body is dissolving in a bathtub in Hell's Kitchen. I don't want to leave anything out here. I guess I've killed maybe 20 people, maybe 40. I have tapes of a lot of it, uh some of the girls have seen the tapes. I even, um... I ate some of their brains, and I tried to cook a little. Tonight I, uh, I just had to kill a LOT of people. Wild Strawberries - 10/10 (in my top 10 of all time, one of the most profoundly touching, human movies I've ever seen, also a refreshing welcome from most of Bergman's movies because of its ray of hope and optimism at the end)
The Seventh Seal - 8/10 (haven't aged well with me, but still worth seeing)
Gangs of New York - 9/10 (somewhat flawed but superb nevertheless, mostly due to Daniel Day-Lewis' performance and the production design)
City Lights - 10/10 (Chaplin's masterpiece and one of the greatest love stories of all time)
Taxi Driver - 10/10 (an unforgettable experience)

Favorite Scene- From when Andy breaks out to the ending.

"I find I'm so excited, I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend, and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope. "
