View Full Version : OK, so Wolf Creek wasn't all it was cracked up to be...

...but good lord, it wasn't THAT fucking bad! People act SO loud and obnoxious when they aren't liking a movie that you almost can't even concentrate on watching it, regardless of how it turns out in the end. If so many of them weren't griping and giggling and heckling at the movie throughout the ENTIRE time it was playing, I might have enjoyed it a little bit more for what it was (I'll get to that later). But who cares? I'm only one guy versus the rest of them so I don't matter. They think just because they're hating it, anyone else who could possibly be enjoying it doesn't deserve to watch it without them acting like total jackasses. Nevermind the fact that I had this annoying kid and his mother sitting in front of me (with her bright ass cell phone light flashing every 10 seconds, and that kid squirming all over the place...KEEP STILL YOU LITTLE BASTARD), and some other asshole somewhere else flashing their laser pointer at the screen. People on all sides of me kept giggling and making jokes during almost every major scene, and then when the movie ended, people started booing and complaining about how it sucked. It was actually one group of idiots making loud comments that made everyone else laugh and start acting stupid. They were so LOUD and pervasive like they were trying to encourage people to heckle and bash the movie. GET OVER YOURSELVES, YOU DIPSHITS! I GET THE FUCKING POINT. YOU HATED IT. NOW TAKE YOUR ASSES HOME AND LET ME ENJOY THE CREDITS IN PEACE!!! God damn, I knew I should've caught a matinee so I could avoid these loud idiots. It's almost like the internet forums where people start trolling a thread just to rain on everyone's parade, only it's real life in a movie theater instead of text on a screen.

For the record, YES, this is yet another "people in movie theaters are such assholes" rant. YES, I'm aware of the fact that there are many other rants like this, and YES, I know people are tired of reading rants like this, but damn it, I don't care. I had to get this off my chest. If you don't like my rant, too bad!

Bottom line, it's fine if people didn't like it. Shit happens. But for christ sake, don't rub it in! Can't I at least TRY to enjoy it for myself without people raining on my parade? They could at least keep it down a little. That's all I'm saying.

*PHEW*...OK, I feel better now. :o :)

As for the movie itself, no, it wasn't as gruesome or terrifying as I expected but it was entertaining nonetheless (despite what I explained above). It had its moments. Having seen it now, I think it was WAY overhyped and just a tad mismarketed. It was more of a survivalist suspense drama than a "gritty" horror movie with loads of gore and action. I can see where all the positive reviews are coming from, but from the way they hyped it up, I think most people will be dissapointed.

Oh, and one more thing...

*SPOILER*

WHAT "head on a stick"? I never saw any head on a stick. All he did was cut her spine and shove her down on the floor, then it cut to the next scene. What gives??? Is it in the unrated version, if there is one?

*END SPOILER*

Sorry for such a long post. I'll shut up now.

I was lucky enough not to be in your situation, even though the room was composed of 18+ year olds, miraculousely they were quiet, but I saw people leave going "booo" and then a large group following.

and yes, I agree with you about Wolf Creek being mismarketed. When I saw the TV ads I was lead to believe that it was going to be in the same genre as "Hostel" but was left disappointed.

It was not great, it was decent but very slow in pace VERY slow. Definitely gotta say that it featured nice visuals. A good effort on creating an eerie mood in the outbacks of Australia.

lol...yeah, I agree. I'm not denying the fact that it was disappointing. Sure it was (5/10). But the obnoxious way people act about it just irritates me. I feel like I would've enjoyed it more if they were less distracting. Oh well...I'll catch it on DVD. Then I can watch it in peace.

And Hollywood wonder why they have a problem with people downloading movies.

The funniest part was when some woman sarcastically yelled out "Yay, they made it" when the Wolf Creek sign came up.

My theater was made up of a bunch of loudmouth idiots, but that didn't really detract from the movie, which was pretty horrible from the start.

****CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS****

He sticks a knife in her back, twists it and drags it across, severing her spinal column at the base. Therefore she's just a 'head on a stick' and can't walk or move properly anymore. That's it really it's scary 'cause Australian serial killer Ivan Milat (who character of was insired by) did the EXACT THING to his victims.

****END OF SPOILERS****

I don't why everyone has a problem with the beginning, personally I like it 'cause it sets up the characters nicely and If anybody laugh at the movie when the characters were tortured and killed are demented.

Anyways I'm a big supporter of this film (you can read my review of the film in the "current films thread") and what like the film is the realism of it. If you didn't like it that's fine but I was scared my this film and I bet if you guys lived here in Australia were this kind of shit happens all time you scared too. I know I won't be going backpacking anytime soon that's for sure.

That's my two cents.

I just saw the movie and the audience I was with behaved maturely. They laughed at some of the funny antics between the guy and two girls in the first half and were kind of shocked by the bad guy's antics during the rest of the movie. When it was all over, I heard some murmurs of "That sucked...", but at least they didn't make their thoughts known during the movie and ruin for me and the rest of the people that seemed to enjoy it.

So, my screening definitely went over better than that horrible one described by the poster. I feel sorry for what happened when you saw it, hope you were still able to appreciate the movie for what it was.

Personally, I thought it was pretty good. I was not "bored" by the beginning of the movie; in fact, I appreciated that they tried to make you care for the characters. You didn't learn every iota about them, but you saw how they interacted with each other and got along. The chemistry between the characters/actors was great, so I did feel scared for them. Some people on this board seem to think it was "boring." I call it, AHEM, "character development." And, I thought their interaction and their lines were fine. I didn't think the script was so "terrible" to take.

And the "head on a stick line"...

WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!!

The bad guy stabbed the girl's spine, paralyzing her actions below her head, thus she is left as a "head on a stick." You didn't exactly see it, but you didn't have to. Realizing what he did and her reaction was enough.

SPOILERS OVER!!!

Good movie. Hope more schmoes and regular movie-goers will appreciate the build-up and suspense.

I wasn't bored by the character development, I was bored by the way scenes played out, they were too drawn out and at times I just felt like "come on! move it!"

Same here...Although my theater wasn't THAT loud, there was a good share of moans and shit (and not those kind of moans...I wish, though). Yeah, when the movie was kind of ending there...some guy up front yelled out, "Oh hell no!", which was pretty funny, and I would say the best part of the movie.

Exactly. People think shots of lying on the beach, driving around, staring at shots of white birds, asking pretentious questions like "Why did the meteor crash here?" do not constitute character development. It just pads out the film.

Oh, so that's what head on a stick means. You know my friend explained it kinda in the same you guys did, but I didn't understand it when he said it cuz he's a fucking retard and I don't understand half of the things he said.

Good so I wasn't the only one who thought the people in the audience were sick for laughing at the murders. I don't know. I guess i'm a hypocrite maybe? But I don't like it when people die in movies. Unless they're assholes or bad guys or retards then maybe I derive some sort of pleasure from watching them get murdered. But usually I don't.

I will admit the only time I laughed during death scenes was during Final Destination II, and that was because of the sheer over the top ridiculousness of it.

So I guess this movie might not have been great, but the audience was pissing me off. Between hearing a baby cry and people leaving. Oh I'm sorry, are people not get tortured fast enough for you?, and the laughing, it didn't really help the movie going experience. I liked it though, it was depressing.

Best line

" You call that a knife?"

PS.

Spoilers!!

Wasn't it kind of fucked up that the girl went back for the guy and preceded to have the worst death ever. Yikes. And whenfake Jesus descended from his cross, he totally hightailed it outta there without even giving the two girls a thought? Sounds like some messed up shite to me.

There is three word I can think of all those laugh at the film and left the cinema.....SHORT.....ATTENTION.....SPANES.

Anyways, here is an interesting thread I found on iMDB from someone, who likes the film, talks about why people are complaining about the film and also features an interview with the director. Hopefully it will help out in some way. Personally I agree with everything he said.

Read it here:

This is probably just a "female thing", but I honestly felt heartbroken at the end, severely depressed, and not a lot of films do that to someone like me.

YES, THERE YOU GO! What you just said in that little paragraph sums up the main point of my rant. The movie wasn't that good but it wasn't that bad either. The audience pissed me off more than the movie being "bad" did. I appreciated it for what it was though, and hopefully I'll get more out of it the next time I watch it (on DVD, so I can concentrate better). As of now, I have mixed feelings about the movie.

And yeah, I have an attention span long enough to appreciate movies with a "slow burn" buildup that pays off in the end. I don't always need constant flash cutting and gore and high octane action every 10 seconds to get into a movie. As long as the overall story and dialogue is interesting, I like it when a movie takes its time. I guess I'm in the minority though. It seems like people are impossible to please these days.

Oh, is it being slayed to fuck? I remember it first coming out in the Uk and all I heard was good things.
