Dakota Fanning vs. Drew Barrymore

Is it me, or has Dakota gotten more complex roles in the past few years, than Barrymore has in her entire career?

Dakota's films such as War of the Worlds, Hide and Seek, Man on Fire, Taken, and even Uptown Girls show her playing various types of characters.

Whereas, Drew's recent films basically show her playing the same old 'girl next door' roles, those crappy Charlie's Angels films notwithstanding.

I just hope we don't see Dakota doing sh!t like Poison Ivy in the future.

I was never a big fan of Drew Barrymore; the only movie I can think of that I enjoyed with her in it was E.T.. Well, there was Batman Forever which was okay, but hers was a bit part - if that. I don't know any of her starring roles in movies when she was a kid.

Now, I've seen many Dakota Fanning movies - Man on Fire, I Am Sam, War of the Worlds - and have been impressed every single time. I think she's got a great career ahead of her; I don't think she'll be in too much trouble if she does a "date movie" or "cute movie" now and then in the next couple of years. I'm starting to think of her as this generation's Jodie Foster.

I give Barrymore props for making it through her difficult period of adolescence and drug use and forming her own production company and making some succesful films out of it.

I still feel Fanning is a better actress than Barrymore was at her age. She's got a lot accomplished (perhaps too much) in a short period of time since her breakthrough performance four years ago in I Am Sam.

I think Dakota Fanning plays the same monotone character in every single movie. I don't like her that much at all.

That being said, she has certainly accomplished more than Drew in the few years Dakota has been making movies.

I'll take Drew anyday though. ;)

I think Dakota Fanning is a brilliant young actress.. I think she is much better than Drew at her age. Dakota is just so passionate and not only that talks and acts like a mature adult. Even Denzel said that.
