The year is coming to an end. When you think of cinema in 2005, what do you think are the memorable moments that come to mind?

For me:

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Darth Vader and Obi-Wan fight on the lava planet Mustafar.

Cinderella Man
The climatic boxing match where nearly everyone is listening to the radio, desperate to see Braddock come out of the fight alive and a winner.

Crash
The last 20 minutes.

The 40 Year Old Virgin
Andy and the guys playing poker, talking about nasy sex stories and the secret that is Andy's virginity.

King Kong
On top of the Empire State Building, fighting off biplanes, and on Skull Island, fighting off T-Rexes.

The list goes on, but I wanna see what you're favorite moments are...

I didn't see a great deal of movies that came out this year, so I'll just write:

"It's over, Anakin! I have the high ground!"

Done.

the batmobile chase- batman begins- no slow motion and kickass, done the right way, the way I could do things.

Some moments, off the top of my head:

*Spoilers*

War of the Worlds: the opening tripod attack/the burning train/the bodies floating in the water/"Little Deuce Coupe"

Munich: the female assassin's desperate attempt to delay her death by exposing her breasts.

Crash: already mentioned, but the scene with the girl running out to protect her father and almost getting killed brought tears to my eyes.

Nine Lives: Jason Isaacs kissing Robin Wright Penn's pregnant belly in the supermarket.

The White Diamond: the swift birds flying against the beautiful backdrop of the waterfall.

Layer Cake: the ending, a twisted turn of happenstance.

Junebug: Amy Adams' silent, lonely masturbation.

King Kong: too many to count...hmm, Kong signing "beautiful" on top of the Empire State Building could count as the most emotional, but I liked the gorgeously composed shot of Watts standing at the edge of the ship while dressed in her gown, tears staining her face.

Downfall: Frau Goebbels' forcing the cyanide pills down her children's mouths, all done silently, which adds to the horror of the event.

Hustle and Flow: Terrence Howard listening to the church choir in a long shot, a silent tear rolling down his face.

Saw II: the needle pit scene. 'Nuff said.

Schultze Gets the Blues: Schultze listening to a fast paced song on the radio and subsequently trying to adapt it to his accordion.

Broken Flowers: Real life father and son, Bill Murray and Homer Murray, meeting at a literal and metaphorical crossroads in Jim Jarmusch's superb road picture.

A History of Violence: the ambiguous final shot.

Stay: Ewan McGregor stumbling down a never-ending flight of stairs, entering the puzzling rabbit hole of the film.

Crash - Yes, the invisible cloak scene (I can't help but cry my eyes out every time I watch it , Michael Pena's perfomance right then is heart-rending).

King Kong - the fight with the T-Rexs (my jaw was on the floor the entire time).

Unleashed - the fight between Jet Li and the Man in White in the bathroom. INTENSE!

War of the Worlds - first time you see the tripods use the heat beams and turn people to ash.

Saw II - when Shawnee Smith is pushed into a pit filled with hypodermic needles.

Wedding Crashers - the dinner table scene, the scene later in Vince Vaughn's bedroom, and Will Ferrell's cameo

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - when the scene is entirely made out of string and the answer to the question of the universe.

The Island - the car chase scene.

Sin City - the cinematography and Mickey Rourke's performance.

Old Freak'n Boy (Oldboy). After The Six Sense floored everyone worldwide with its suprise ending, every hack in Hollywood decided to put some sort of suprise at the end of their films. However, Chan-wook Park's masterpiece Oldboy puts all of them to shame. I have never been anymore suprised by a revelation/ending of a movie, more than I was with the final 10-20 minutes of this film.

I was wondering why Jarmusch cast such an awful actor.

Melinda and Melinda - The abrupt ending, made a lot better with Wallace Shawn's voice.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - most of the Oompa interludes and the clever use of a chocolate bar as a 2001 monolith

The Constant Gardener - The ending. I can't look at a group of birds without thinking of Ralph Fiennes saying Tess.

Grizzly Man - Either the officer with those very black shades talking of Treadwell's stupidity or the helicopter pilot singing that final song.

Palindromes - The introduction of all the kids, around the table, at Mama Sunshine's

Last Days - A train passing above as Michael Pitt stumbles through a forest

Good Night, and Good Luck. - Murrow accepting an award, the two scenes that bookmark the movie

Capote - When Capote visits Perry Smith at the end before he gets hanged, both aware of Capote's manipulations.

Mysterious Skin - Joseph Gordon-Angelsintheoutfield massaging the AIDS victim

Yes - Shirley Henderson talking to the camera or the confrontation between Joan Allen and the guy in the parking lot

Syriana - The Clooney torture scenes or the finale

Munich - Eric Bana at the end in NYC

The Squid and the Whale - Walt running and looking at the diorama to Lou Reed's "Street Hassle"

Just seeing Werner Herzog listen to the tape of the grizzly bear murder in "Grizzly Man" was enough. I didn't need to actually hear the tape, and in fact, not hearing probably makes it even worse. That scene really disturbed me.

Besides that:
-The train fight in Batman Begins
-Kong on the Empire State Building in King Kong
-Matt Dillon helping Thandie Newton out of the car in Crash
-William Hurt's scene in A History of Violence
-The final fight in Cinderella Man, easily the best boxing scene this side of Raging Bull
-Seeing the Yellow Bastard's private parts ripped off and flying towards the camera in Sin City
