View Full Version : Movies You Grew Up Loving that Others Seem to Hate!?

Does anyone have one or two of those? You know, that one movie that, even today, still makes you realize why you love movies so much, yet at the same time, the majority of other movie buffs absolutely hate?

Right now, there are only two that I can think of:

Hook: Goddam, this was just one of the greatest films I had ever seen as a child, and still to this day I hold it high up in regards to escapism and just plain brilliance. I cannot understand why other people hate it so much.

Sneakers: When I was in high school, my friends would give me non-stop shit about loving a movie with Rober Redford in it, calling him an old man. However, they couldn't really talk, because they were fans of The Fast and the Furious. Even so, real movie buffs seem to hate this film as well. Why? It was fucking fantastic!!!

So, anyone else have one or ten of those movies that rock your world, but everyone else hates?

I grew up watching stuff like The Rock, Die Hard, Con Air, and Face Off. Yes, I am a disturbed 19 year old.

Yeah, when I was a little kid...like seven or something, I watched a lot of action movies...the Die Hard series was a big favorite, Face Off, Broken Arrow, Schwarzenegger movies.... me and my dad used to have Steven Seagal marathons, so I have a special place in my heart for them.

Yeah, I loved Hook as well.

And Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Van Damme action flicks.

But what are talking about with Sneakers? I'm pretty sure that that movie got good reviews.

But it never seemed to skyrocket, you know? It is definitely liked by millions of film buffs and critics alike, but I know a lot of people who have never even heard of it. I don't know...it just never seemed to reach the same fame and notiriety that some other movies close to the same genre had, like Hackers and The Net, except that Sneakers is the only believeable one of them all.

I totally forgot about this one. I loved this movie when I was little. And I am with most of you with your assessment of Hook, I absolutely loved that movie, aswell.

I grew up watching very violent films since my Dad didn't care what I watched. I was only 6 months old and my Mom and Dad took me to see Top Gun with them at the theatre. Weid eh? Since then, I've only watched action flicks growing up. One of the first movies I ever saw as well was The Rocky Horror Picture Show. So, I'm pretty screwed up from that! :-) J/K!

Sigur509, there is no shame in liking this movie. This is one of my favourite sci-fi thrillers of all time. I'm dead serious on that.

Super Mario Brothers (I didn't even know people hated it until I got older...I still love it)
Alien 3
Camp Nowhere
Spawn (I can understand the hate...a little, but I still liked it back in '97)
Junior (Schwarzenegger gets pregnant...I loved it, yet people hated it for some reason)
Last Action Hero (another underrated gem)
Jaws: The Revenge (don't ask...I hate it now too)
3 Ninjas/3 Ninjas: Kickback
Surf Ninjas

Those are all I can think of for now.

That was one of my favorites in elementry school. God, the princess was so hot! Honestly, though, it makes absolutely no sense.

I used to watch these all the time. I remember buying the VHS, and we got a card that if you sent it in, you would get a shirt from the movie or something like that. My mom threw it away, and I got very upset.

I loved Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can growing up. Actually any movie with an Orangutan would work.

I guess because it didn't have awful VR effects and adults riding around on skateboards, it wasn't hip enough.

I have never understood why people do like this movie!

Sorry for confusing you. I was saying that I loved Sneakers, but I was pissed off that movies like Hackers were even more popular, even though they were ridiculous.

I'm with you and AWP...sure it didn't exactly have a brilliant story...but compared to every single other "Godzilla" flick that has/had come out of Japan, I think it kicks fucking ass.

I was 10 when the first Mortal Kombat movie came out. I always really enjoyed it and still do in fact. I can even stomach the sequel.
