Okay, this post was inspired by our own John Fallon's (aka The Arrow) report on the ups and downs he experienced this past year. I thought it would be fun for us here to do the same thing. I know I'm probably bending the rules here, so let's not allow this to become a gossip forum or anything. Simply list them as I did below. Incidentally, I originally posted this on my blog for myspace.com.

Okay, 2005 wasn't exactly the greatest year, but it had its moments. Not a lot of terribly exciting things happened, but to put things in perspective, I didn't get run over or go to federal prison. For your reading pleasure, I'll break it down into a list of positives and negatives.

.....

The Positives

--Without a doubt, my visit to California was the single greatest highlight of the year 2005 for yours truly. My bud Marcus moved there for his new job last August, so I finally had a good reason to go out there. We talked about going there since forever, but it finally came. The weather was nice, the chicks were hot (and easy, or so I'm told), and we went to this great club called the Hollywood Avalon. Unfortunately I had to return home to the lameness that usually characterizes my life. I plan to visit Cali again in spring. This time I might never come back...

--I know I've complained about working at Shopko before, but when I got hired I was glad to have something at all, given my previous four and a half years of solid unemployment. In all fairness, if I didn't work there I would not have had the money to visit Cali. After nearly a year there, it's time to move on, though. Call me conceited, but I think I can do better than filling store shelves in the dead of night. Hopefully it won't be long before I look back and think of this as "that little thing I did before going on to bigger and better things."

--I frenched Marcus' girlfriend last New Years' Day. He didn't even mind.

--Well, no other major things to report, but I went down to Milwaukee a few times. Went to a wedding reception for the free booze. Smoked the hookah at a club. Went to some bars and a few clubs, to sum it up.

.....

The Negatives

--My beloved family cat, Lucy, died in March. I've had her since I was seven years old. We all expected it, since she was getting pretty old, but I kind of thought she'd hold out a few more months at least. I had myself at least one good cry, then consoled myself with the fact that our other cat, Misty, is still alive and fiesty.

--Do I really need to say any more about my lame job and my (former) psycho bitch of a supervisor? Fuck 'em, man.

--I had a relatively minor but still infuritating scalp problem, but it's almost all gone now. No need to get into detail here.

--No serious incidents of domestic violence or whatever, but there's been more instances than I can count where my parents or younger brother got on my nerves over some trivial thing and I snapped at them or blew them off, or just shut them out. You all know what I'm talkin' about.

But...2005 is over. Here's to 2006, hopefully soon to be know as "the turning point of my life." If not...we'll always have the Mantra Lounge.

PS: No, I haven't forgotten. The year 2005 was when Transformers: The Movie took place. :D

Oh, and by the way...has anyone here ever been to the Hollywood Avalon in L.A.?
