So, it's on again, off again with the negotiations.
He's gone on record when asked "Are you leaving the New York Jets for the Kansas City Chiefs?" to say "I'm the coach of the New York Jets and that's where I'm going to stay".

And then Dick Vermeil retired...and the world of Gang Green shifted.

Bad enough no Reggie Bush and a 4 spot in the draft, now this?

IS HE AN ASSHOLE?
IS HE WORTH KEEPING?
IS HE TURNCOAT SCUMBAG LIKE A CERTAIN SLICK HAIRED F*CK COACHING THE MIAM HEAT AS WE SPEAK?

Or is he just trying to look out for himself and his family ($ wise) while going for a shot at the NFL championship while he can?

Schmoes, weigh in.

He's the third lowest paid coach in the NFL and he's trying to rebuild a team he has taken to the playoffs multiple times. If he doesn't get a contract to work in Kansas City, he should shop around. He's just trying to take care of his future one way or another.

Also, who wouldn't want to get the hell out of the media sespool that is NY, and go to a kinder, gentler envirnment with less to worry about...

Typical Sunday worries in KC -

"Larry Johnson left, Larry Johnson right, slant to Gonzales... Priest Holmes left, Priest Holmes right, quick out to Gonzales...and repeat."

If the Jets want to keep him, they need to show him some love and some green. Given proper personnel, he's a fine coach.

He's already announced he's leaving the Jets whether KC hires him or not. So that's that.

Now word comes that KC gave NY a 4th round pick for him, and his agent just has to work out a contract with KC.

So pretty much, he's the new coach for the Chiefs.

Let's see, the Jets are going to be 29 million over the cap, Curtis Martin is breaking down, their "franchise" Quarterback will probably never be the same, the offensive line is getting older, and the NY Media is relentless. The bright side of the team is the defense, but they lose one of their best defensive players in John Abraham. So, I'd say it's smart and just wanting to get out of the hell hole.
