With such a colorful and amazing cast, which one of these fuckers is your favorite?
I gotta go Wooderson, man.
"Say, you got a joint?"
"No, not on me, man."
"It'd be a lot cooler if you did."

Honorable mentions to Dawson, Pickford, Pink, and Slater-Son.

Great topic, Jerk Shapiro!
Although I love 'em all...I ultimately went with Mitch Kramer. Whatever happened to his portrayer, Wiley Wiggins (aside from cameos in THE FACULTY and LOVE & A .45, and that awuful pretentious piece of Linklater shit WAKING LIFE)?

It's gotta be Wooderson.

Wooderson all the way. After watching this movie stoned a few weeks ago, I decided to talk like him for the rest of the night. Good times ensued.

For some reason I always liked Dawson the best; I guess he kinda reminds me of myself in highschool minus the overalls.

It's tough to chose one from a cast as good as this one. I went with Mike Newhouse. His little group of geeky outsiders was realistic (nice to see in a teenage movie).

Ron Slater

Wooderson and then probably Mike Newhouse.
I like the movie, but man did I not like most of the characters. It's like all the people I couldn't stand in high school in one movie. The acting was fine except Wiley and Affleck, but the way the characters were written weren't too likeable except for a few. Mitch Kramer was such a little tool, can't he go two seconds without touching his nose or flipping his hair. Ron Slater was pretty annoying as well, but I guess he was supposed to be.

Best Character: Fred O'Bannion, an awesome, and hilarious comedy villain...
Worst Character: Bitch Kramer, one of the worst recorded performances in cinema history, and completely unlikable to boot...:D

Yep, Wooderson.
And not just because MConaghey(sp?) is sporting a fantastic moustache and matching hair.
I just watched this last night too

Wooderson is an obvious choice. Slater and Pink also are kinda famous mostly cuz they hav more focus. But i feel that Dawson gets overlooked but he is def one of the better characters

Got to love the super bitch!
Darla: Lick me, all of you.
It's a tough one between Slater and Dawson
Slater: George Washington was in a cult, and the cult was into aliens, man.
Dawson: Well, all I'm saying is that I want to look back and say that I did It the best I could while I was stuck in this place. Had as much fun as I could while I was stuck in this place. Played as hard as I could while I was stuck in this place... Dogged as many girls as I could while I was stuck in this place.

Not cool man, Mitch is a cool kid. His experience in the movie reminded me of myself in high school. Especially coming home late at night for the first time.

Exactly the problem. Kramer was SUPPOSED to be a cool kid that all of us could relate to, but instead of casting a normal kid that could act, Linklater cast an androgynous freak with overly feminine mannerisms whose acting was so bad (looking directly into camera is never a good thing) that I found myself actually ROOTING for O'Bannion to give him the severe ass-beating and subsequent hospital stay. More like a complete casting misstep in an otherwise great movie...:D

Don Dawson.....if only for this quote......
"You know that Julie chick? Loves you. You want her? Gotta play it cool, you know. You can't let her know how much you like ?cause if she knows, she'll dump you like that. Believe me. Like, if she asks you if you want a ride, you say, "No, I've got my own ride, but maybe I'll see you later." Sounds stupid, doesn't it? It works."

Mitch Kramer and those teeny boppers were quite irritating. But on the otherside, I'd like to use Cole Hauser's face as a dart board
Mike Newhouse was the funniest. Floyd was the most relateable. And Milla Jovovich's character was my favourite, for obvious reasons.

I voted for Dawson mainly because I did some of the same kind of shit he did and I didnt even realize until about two years ago and two of my friends pointed it out to me. Wooderson is awesome. I also like Slater, Jodi, Cynthia, Pickford, Michelle (how could you not like Milla though), Pink, and Mitch. Of course you cant like O'Bannion, I also dont like Carl (the pussy) eventhough they do get O'Bannion really good. I dont like Benny (Cole Hauser) mainly because when the at the party hes cheering on Clint to beat Mike's (Adam Goldberg's) ass when Pink, Wooderson, and the black guy (why the fuck cant I remember his name he's a fav also) all jump in to help Mike. Granted Mike sucker punched Clint but Clint had that shit coming.
Its really hard to pick just one because there are so many likeable characters and you can point put the characters and be like "Hey that was him or her in high school". The thing that makes this movie so good is that pretty much everybody can relate to it.

And yet Affleck plays O'Bannion with such gleeful sadistic relish that there's really no way I could hate him. Will agree that Katt was a fuckin punk and Posey was wasted (she had her one big scene during the hazing then faded into the background of the story)...

He is without a doubt one of the greatest characters of all time. Absolutely love him. He is quoted in my house at least once a week.

I concur. Touching his nose was his go-to "Look at me. I'm embarrassed" move. I would ask "Whatever happened to Wiley Wiggins?" but I completely understand why we really haven't seen him again.
I went with Mike Newhouse. Its probably more like a tie between him and Wooderson, but I feel like he's had enough love in this thread. I also like Adam Goldberg, a pretty underrated character actor. He was great in Entourage as Nicky Rubenstein and even in Friends as "The Roommate from Hell".
I got to be honest though, I'm not completely onboard with the devoted love for this movie. Its alright, has a GREAT soundtrack, but its really just ok. I don't want to callously call it an American Graffitti rip-off, but I think its an apt statement. I definitely don't think it was deserving of a Criterion release.

Keanu Reeves, in almost anything.
As for the actual movie in question, I concur with the rest of the group:
