AFI will announce its top 100 romantic movies of all time this coming June
who do you think will be at no.1 or who do you think will make up the top 10
Gone with the wind?
Casablanca?
Titanic?
My best friends wedding?
you do the pick?

The first three were good picks, but My Best Friend's Wedding? Come on... If they wanna pick a film by Julia, they'll choose Pretty Woman. And they'll put films like When Harry Met Sally or Sleepless in Seattle or Annie Hall for the top 10. My Best Friend's Wedding could be found somewhere around #79...
Number 1 will probably be Casablanca, it's a bit hard to beat.

MOULIN ROUGE (2001) and BEFORE SUNRISE deserve to be in the first two slots respectively, but it'll be a cold day in Hell before the AFI even thinks of adding those two great films to the list.

I've mentioned this film in every romance topic out there: Frank Capra's IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT from 1934, starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.

Some of my favorites:
Annie Hall (1977)
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964)
A Man and a Woman (1966)
The Age of Innocence (1993)
When Harry Met Sally...(1989)
Cabaret (1972)
Howard's End (1992)
Moonstruck (1987)
The Philadelphia Story (1940)
Sunrise (1927)
Wuthering Heights (1939)
Jules and Jim (1961)
The Apartment (1960)
Days of Heaven (1978)
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
Chasing Amy (1997)
Annie Hall might be my pick for #1, but I'd have to think hard about all the films.

TRUE ROMANCE! Okay maybe it doesnt exemplify the traditional cliches of a romance film as does Casablanca or Titanic. But theres not a rule that says a romance movie can be loaded with blood and violence.

GOOD CALL VINCENT!!!
True Romance was romantic, in that "awwwwwww....you killed my pimp" sorta way.

I think and hope it will be Casablanca (10/10), but the overrated Gone with the Wind (5/10) could sneak in and get that #1 spot. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif
I hope Moulin Rouge (10/10) and As Good as it Gets (10/10) make the list! It Happened One Night (9/10) will rank very high on the list and deservedly so.

I'm sorry, I should read the title of the thread properly.
Probably Titanic. Shudder.

MOULIN ROUGE is the greatest romance told to this day. It is followed by TITANIC, BREAKING THE WAVES, ALMOST FAMOUS and A BEAUTIFUL MIND.
TITANIC will probably be the only movie out of those to make the AFI's list.

The Bridges Of Madison County...It's a well known fact that women will have sex with their man after viewing this film. It's that romantic!!

I would say MOULIN ROUGE is one of the most romantic films made.
I also reckon ONE FINE DAY with George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer was nice, certainly not groundbreaking, but romantic.

Although none of the characters ended up together romantically, I think ALMOST FAMOUS is a very romantic movie.

I'd go with Moulin Rouge and Before Sunrise too, as someone else did.
Ghostface 2000

Moulin Rogue
Gone With the Wind & Casablanca seem to be the most famous movie romances.
Although I think that Robin & Marian, The Bridges of Madison County, & Witness are just as good.

I'd also say Casablanca, with Gone with the Wind a close second.

Letter from an Unknown Woman(Ophuls,1948)is an exquisite and poignant Viennese period romance that should be much better known.
Of American romances,i also particularly like:
Sunrise
The Age of Innocence
Casablanca
Some Like it Hot(a Valentine's Day treat)
The Apartment
It Happened One Night
The English Patient
Best not in English:
The Green Ray(The ending is wonderful)

Hmmm. I'll probably have to go with When Harry Met Sally. It's the only romantic comedy that I can think of that succeeds in being both Romantic AND comedic. Another under-rated RC is the Cutting Edge.
For me the key ingredient in a successful romance is that you have to make the audience WANT to see the main characters get together. Too many films fail to do this.
