#100. Extreme Measures (1996)

This is a great, underappreciated movie that works on two great levels: as a fugitive type thriller but is also a great moral dilemma between Hugh Grant's character and Gene Hackman's character. Both actors tear into their roles and give great performances. Sure, we're suppose to root for Grant because he is the hero of the movie, but the movie is smart enough, and Hackman is so terrific that we can still kinda of see where his character is coming from. And I thought the ending was pretty much perfect and doesn't cheat on the audience. Great movie.

Honestly, i see about 80 films in the runner up lot that are better then Extreme Measures, though it was a good move for Hugh Grant by getting away from the rom com genre for a while. Still i'd give it about 6/10

You are looking at the person who quoted me, I think those are his ratings because they are definately not mine. Men of Honor and Passion of the Christ are both 8's from me. 10 - 15 of those movies are 9's and the rest are 8's.




#99. Crimson Tide (1995)

A great submarine thriller, a great clash of wills between two strong people and has some great action and suspense. Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman are both superb. This movie is actually a bit similar to Extreme Measures in that we kind of see both sides of the issue and even though we are suppose to be rooting for Denzel Washington (just like in Extreme Measures we are suppose to root for Hugh Grant) we can still see very much where Hackman's character is coming from. And Hackman manages to make his character sympathetic even when he's a little too much of a hard ass. And the chemistry between Washington and Hackman is terrific. Also, check it out for an early role of Viggo Mortenssen who plays Washington's best friend but is then forced to choose sides between his friend and his captain. It's a very compelling performance he gives.

#98. Carlito's Way (1993)

Noone can direct action sequences better than Brian De Palma. The Untouchables has some really great ones and there is a chase in this movie that is so unbelievably suspenseful and exciting. Of coarse, the movie itself is also great with great performances from Al Pacino and a completely unrecognizable Sean Penn.

#97. The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)

Probably my favorite of Disney's animated flicks. Just glorious. Great animation. Great characters and story. Fantastic.
