This definately looks great, I just wish the prices weren't so high.
Oh well, what can you do.

It looks great, but there is no way I am making the jump anytime soon with all the great DVDs there are out there that would take forever to get to Blue-Ray.

That Spider-Man 2 picture looks ever so swell, but im not in any rush to start a new collection, however i am happy there in similar cases to dvd.

I think it will all depend on the $! I'm well over 350+ of DVD's now and won't stop buying them soon but if I can get a better product for a similar price then I'll probably blueray. I'll have to investigate further.
Peace...

The movies look good and all but its nothing too special thats going to make me rebuy any of my movies. Unless of course some of my favorite films come out with added special features and shit like that.

Blu-ray is cool and all, but I'll also wait for it to become 'standardized' before I'll give a big shit about it.
Plus, I'm holding out on a PS3, which will hopefully be able to play blu-rays, even if it is a shitty first generation player.

Yeah, I will be holding onto my 1,700+ DVD's for a long time. Honestly, Blu-Ray is not that impressive to me.

as long as the new players are backwards compatible (and they'd better be), theres no way in hell im upgrading my dvd collection

I have too many DVD's to replace as well. One of these formats is bound to become a giant failure. Maybe both of them will be. I have an HDTV and for a lot of DVD's, I can't tell the difference between them and something actually in HD (considering the transfer is good).

The feedback so far, from this board at least, has been negative which is making me think that Blu-Ray and HD could possibly flop, assuming that the majority of people think as we do. Everyone is reluctant to replace their collection, whether they have 200 dvds in their collection, or 2000. This spring will be pretty interesting when the product first starts hitting the public.

I guess I have to be the first one to complain that the cases look stupid:p And I agree with most everyone here, I'll stick with the current gen, until I have no choice.

can i ask you guys something? why is it that every bluray hd dvd topic has people complaining about having to re-buy dvds? you dont have too both formats are backwards compatible. Just keep the standerd de dvds you have and only but the new releases of movies you dont have or if the edition of the movie you have on dvd is sub par then buy the blu ray one. You dont have to replace your entire collection. that and the disks are going tyo cost the same amount as sd dvds do....:o

I may be slightly stupid but reports I read were that initial costs for HD-DVDs and Blu-ray DVDs were around 30 - 40 bucks. That's not the same amount I pay, even for new releases. I pay that expecting to get a kickass collector's edition gift set (i.e. Sin City), not getting a cool new movie, or a movie I loved on the previous format, that now is even more crystal "clearer" picture wise.
And only some of the players will be backwards complatible, and my bet is that it will be the higher end models, meaning if I want to play my old babies, I'll have to pay out the assend for it initially. Like I said before, I'm just gonna stick with the current format until I have no choice.

I was just about the say the same. Backwards compatible is great because I would be interested in buying a blue ray drive for my htpc. Now its a matter of cost though, if Blue Ray DVD movies are more expensive (which they will be in the beginning) then i'll stick to regular dvd's but overall if Blue Ray is here to stay, then I'll eventually be switching over. I don't think its a big deal.

No this information is wrong. All models will be backwards compatible, not only the higher end models. thats not only financially ludicris on behalf of the company's making these products, its one of the most ridiculous thing i have heard of Again. ALL players will be backwards compatible.

i dont know what reports you were reading but they arent the ones i have been reading. Even if the MSRP is 30$ retailers are definetly going to sell them for less than that. Adding to the fact that the manufatcures know the public has gotten used to the sweet spot price of 15-25$ dvds, again raising the price of dvd's would be financially bad for them

I'm picking up a PS3 when they come out, and I'm sure alot of others will too. So that tells me that Blu-Ray already has the advantage, and will most likely win the war. As for buying my DVD's all over again, I'll only buy the movies I love. Like Fight Club, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars.
