I thought I might like it, but had no idea it would become my second favorite film of 2005.

War of the Worlds - Had practically zero expectations prior to seeing it, but once I did see it, the experience was was unforgettable.

The 40 Year Old Virgin - One of the sweetest, most heartwarming comedies in a while, something I was totally not expecting.

Hustle & Flow - I can't stand rap but this film knocked my socks off, mostly due to Terrence Howard's star making performance.

Seriously, i didn't think Spielberg could pull off Munich to such a great level, but he did, so that takes it for me.

Dreamer - with the "Based on a True Story" title attached, I was expecting to roll my eyes, but this was a good family film, which unfortunately has been shunted in favor of "cool" and visually empty cotton candy movies.

Sky High - one of the wittiest satire-cum-adventure films of the year, mixing Harry Potter and the Incredibles into an altogether better film than either one of those.
