I had read some months back that seasons 1,2 and 3 of The X Files were being repackaged in new casing and also that the prices were being dropped somewhere around $40 each. Right now Best Buy retails each of the seasons at around $95...which is absurd. This is one of my all time favorite shows growing up and I want to revisit them with my (hopefully) more intelligent mind. Any new news on this?

I haven't heard anything about those, but they recently released 4 Mythology sets that cost like $30-$40 a piece. They have all the alien conspiracy episodes in them. I was thinking about picking them up myself because like you said, the season sets are very expensive... plus there's nine of them.

Yeah we already got these in the UK, i prefer the first box, except the high RRP.

I only have season 6, because it was £12 in a shop, ill probaly sell it and get the profit though.

Well that's great news. The major problem with the current box sets besides the price is how big and bulky they are. The complete series would take up an entire shelf for me. Cheaper and re-packaged. Sounds good. Kind of sucks for those who already got the current sets. I know if I had already spent nearly $1,000 I'd be pissed off right now.
