Has anyone seen the movie Bullitt? I don't get it. It’s considered a great movie, yet it feels like I'm watching a two-hour episode of The Streets of San Francisco or even Hawaii 5-0. The plot is forgettable and the characters are boring. There are some good scenes, like the car chase which everyone talks about, but overall, I thought it was a pretty crappy movie. Does anyone think differently?

I think it's a pretty good movie, not great, but good. I think the movie starts off well, hits the climax during the great chase scene, but than ends kinda weakly. I think the main reason that people talk about this movie is the car chase scene - other than that, it's your basic cop movie.

For starters the movie came out in 1968 sooooo
whats seen....
pacing of story....
And the acting may seem dated to you but the movie is awright in my books.
I do agree that yes the infamous Car Chase scence is the HIGHLIGHT of the movie overall but if you are watching it for the first time you will definately fall in one of these categories.
- HATED IT!
- DIDN'T LIKE IT, BUT DAYUM! JAQUELINE BISSETT WAS HAWT IN THIS! ;)
- FRICKIN LOVED IT! :D
sooo if it was done today 2006 w/....
- Jason Statham
- Steven Seagal (kidding!)
or whoever it would somehow improve I dunno for the better or worse
I was also LOOKING at the IMDB Page for this movie that also starred some later to be well knowns.....

Since Steve McQueen is one of my favorite actors, I love this movie. Not his best, but great nevertheless. Now its been awhile since I've seen it, I need to buy it actually, but all it is, is your standard 60s action movie, it's not Shakespeare. For what it is its a great film IMO.

i need to see this film again, the first time i watched it i fell asleep, the second time i was tired and kept nearly falling asleep. from memory the only thing i had against the film was the pacing, the rest of it was good

Is it really a defense to say that the movie is good relative to its time period? Great movies transcend there decade and are universally good. 'Casablanca' is a great movie regardless of when it was made. Stylistically, 'Bullitt' reminded me of 'The French Connection', but the latter is much better than the former. I think the flaw lies in the film and not in the time period that it was filmed in.

Like Cronos, the first time I watched it I also fell asleep, but I caught up with it recently and I had mixed feelings about it.
One the one hand, it is indeed your regular cop movie with a forgettable story, undeveloped characters (what's up with the cop's hot girlfriend? she's just window dressing most of the time) and only three exciting chase sequences (in the hospitel, on the streets, at the airport) to liven up the proceedings.
On the other hand, the flick has a weird vibe to it, with McQueen's understated, supercool, non-emotional performance, the stylish direction, the superb editing and camera work, and the whole 60s-feeling it conjures up.
Overal though, it's a bit too long and is certainly vastly overrated like most cult and popular favourites.
