View Full Version : just a simple idea..

I was just thinking to myself... with all the movies coming out now, I kind of want to see ALL of them, but I'm not fuckin' willing to pay 7 to 8 a PIECE.. know what i'm saying..
so what if we have a section on the forums with called something like "SEE IT, SKIP IT" whatever the name would be..and the purpose of it so schmoes just help someone decide to see the movie or to skip the movie.. I know that we have "current movies" thread, and threads there are for the current movies, but all people do there is give reviews and recently get into fights which gets tiresome..
SO, my propsal would be..."IN" that section, "Current" movies one, have "Sub-section" like in "Celeb Talk" there's also a "Celeb-O-Meter"
well, in CURRENT, have a "SEE IT or SKIP IT" kind of deal..where, after all the reviews schmoes go in it and click on the thread of a current movie and just reply with "SEE IT" or "SKIP IT"
I personally think that would be a great way of helping out someone decide if they wanna see that, or wait for video/DVD..
So I think it would be cool that after people post their reviews or whatever in Current Movies, to right ahead go to the subsection and post words "See" or "Skip"
I mean, it wouldn't hurt to make that subsection, really..
but that's just an idea. Whatever people decide.

It is a nice idea BUT...my 9/10 might be your 4/10.
How hard is it to read a few paragraphs about a certain movie and then decide?
It's all very subjective and therefore, in the end you oughta be the judge of the see it/skip it thingy.
Otherwise what you can do is to get a rough idea from IMDB.
Now, the IMDB ratings can certainly be crappy sometimes, but initially when a movie is released, the first set of people to rate (*stars) are movie-buffs. So that might just be helpful.

yeah I thought about that part "9/10, mine 4/10" that's where the fault comes in..but still..well I donno. I just thought it would help a bit more..and IMDB is a bunch of wankers too. People rating a movie 1 before it comes out, or because someone hates it, they read what that person says and hate on it too..fuck IMDB damn that place is so idiotic.

It's so hard that I don't bother reading current film threads that I haven't watched yet because of all the extra bullshit that goes into them. People write spoilers in them throughout, and often times without warning. Even when they get caught sometimes they just write "oosp.. srry!" when they are told, with no common decency to edit the fucking post.
To argue slightly for this point, anytime a good movie comes out what do people talk about on these forums? The Rotten fucking Tomatoes. Fuck Rotten Tomatoes. I don't care how many fresh or rotten tomatoes they have. I'd rather see how many Super or Shit schmoe ratings it gets.

All i'm sayin' is there shouldn't be a situation where a schmoe says "ahh!crap!!i would've seen it in theatres a year back...if it wasn't for those meddling and deceiving schmoes!!!!!!!"...(yes!i like scooby-doo)

Hi. Yeah, I just bumped a thread that's five and half years old and I know that's a total n00btard thing to do, but I couldn't find a better fitting thread and don't like starting new ones unnecessarily.
In the Current Movies section, I think it'd be spiffy if folks could do polls on their specific movie threads, with a ranking system. Like say the Cowboys & Aliens thread, there'd be a poll with the options of 1-10. People usually include their score at the end of their review posts anyway, so it'd fit nicely. That way you can just look at the poll and get a general idea of how other posters feel about the movie. And if the polls were public, you could see who rated it how and this would help in assessing which votes mean more according to whose opinion you value more.
I agree with what Ace said up there about how reading the thread shouldn't be too much trouble, I mean after all that's what this forum is for, but I for one don't want to read anything about a movie 'til I've seen it. I avoid reviews, synopses, trailers, everything to keep my opinion as uncluttered as possible upon watching, then go and put said opinions in the appropriate thread afterwards. But I'd still like to check in the thread before the viewing just to get a quick idea and see what people think without having anything given away. I think the poll option is a good way to do that.
This is not a complaint, even though it kinda sounds like it there. Things are swell the way they are and I ain't bitching or anything, it's just something that I think would be neato. Sorry if it's been covered before, but like I said this is the closest thing I could find.

That's doable, if more Schmoes think it's a good idea. :)

How about instead of a poll with 10 options you just make the poll 'see it/rent it/skip it.' Three simple options, two if you get rid of 'rent it.'

"Rent It" is always a good option to have. Some films play better at home than at a theater.

I really like the idea of being able to rate the current films 1/10 - 10/10 on a poll in the Current Movie Talk board. Would be cool to see the results and get an idea of the schmoes general consensus.
