How? I just watched Short Cuts the other week. Of all the celebrity deaths recently, this is the one that surprises me the most. He truly was too young.

In honor of Chris Penn, a great monologue from one of his best roles:
"The man you just killed was just released from prison. He got caught at a company warehouse full of hot items. He could've fuckin' walked. All he had to do was say my dad's name, but he didn't; he kept his fucking mouth shut. And did his fuckin' time, and he did it like a man. He did four years for us. So, Mr. Orange, you're tellin' me this very good friend of mine, who did four years for my father, who in four years never made a deal, no matter what they dangled in front of him, you're telling me that now, that now this man is free, and we're making good on our commitment to him, he's just gonna decide, out of the fucking blue, to rip us off? Why don't you tell me what really happened?"

Sad day folks. Chris was on of the finest character actors of our time! I don't think I ever saw a bad performance from him. I'm going to have to do a mini Penn marathon this week:
True Romance
Footloose
Short Cuts
Reservoir Dogs
Anyone have any more suggestions?
Anyway, RIP, Mr. Penn.
He was a good one folks.
Peace...

he didnt really leave out on a high note, and i mean he put on the pounds, but man was be a wicked character actor with roles in reservoir dogs, pulp fiction, rush hour, murder by numbers, the boys club...heck even that voice he played in san andreas..
chris penn was a good dude
RIP

01-25-2006, 02:55 AM
Well, he did put on some pounds over the years, but he was nowhere as heavy as, say, John Goodman is, and that guy is still alive and kickin', ain't he?
I assume it's drug-related or some sort of depression-caused death or his heart just gave up for no particular reason. It happens.
I always liked the guy, from his thin days (FOOTLOOSE) to his fat days (RESERVOIR DOGS). Too bad his career petered out in the late 90s with forgettable turns in RUSH HOUR et al. My sympathies go out to Sean Penn. It must be really tough to lose a brother. :(
Horrible news and a real shock. RIP

I still cannot get over the fact that he died. I have never felt this shocked and stunned about a death of an actor. But it seems that I am not the only one this time. Gosh man, I rememer watching Footloose 2 weeks ago seeing Chris Penn learning how to dance, then a almost exactly a week ago I watched him in True Romance and now he's dead. Tsk. What a shame. Man, I feel so bad about this. Moreover I feel bad for Sean Penn right now. As someone mentioned above me...must be hard to lose a brother. Sad day indeed.
Shame, such a shame. :(

That was him in Footloose! Man I forgot about that role. Either way, the guy oozed a lot of screen presence and will definitely be missed by anyone who loves movies. Has the cause been released yet?

man, what a terrible loss, for his family, and the movie going community;
A person could say alot of things about Chris Penn.....and the one thing I'd like to say is: You knew you were going to see a quality, and entertaining movie, if you saw Chris Penn's Mug on screen.

When I first logged on I saw the headline and I was absolutely shocked. This has to be the most shocking celeb death ever. Certianly close to it.
I read it said he died of natural causes. How does a 43 year old man die of natural causes?! He may have weighed 270, but c'mon. It's not THAT much. Unbelievable.

Iknow nothing has been officially released yet and so this amounts to just gossip but I heard some people saying on the radio that some of Penn's friends think he might have gotten back into coke again recently. I guess we'll have to wait and see when the tox reports come out. And of course the otehr thing is that when people have used drugs heavily, even when they have stopped for many years, the damage has still been done to the organs and it makes you more vulnerable to something like this. It's very sad either way.
