I was playing "Upstairs At Larry's" an electronica compilation that consisted of Lawrence Welk music revamped, remixed, redone...
He commented that Welk must be rolling in his grave. Some of them 1/4 of it was not that bad. Some were waaaaaay too slow or wasn't to thrilled on their take of a certain song.
This made me think, what music artists no longer livng that wrote their (AT LEAST) own music msut be rolling in their graves if they heard it......
I say....
Apotheosis sampling Orff's "Carmina Burana"
John Lennon's "Eleanor Rigby" turned into a HNRG Dance Mix

There is a cover...of a song...that was the perfect response for this.
And I cannot for the life of me place it.
This is going to plague me all day.

Ian Curtis can't be happy with that, although I think it's actually kind of good. Definitely doesn't compare with the original though.

Imagine done by Perfect Circle
I was introduced to this blasphemy by a friend who thought it was awesome. I had to take a moment and figure when the brain damage had ocurred.

Tricky doing Nirvana's 'Something in the Way'
Again though, I think the cover is pretty cool.

I can't believe how bad it sounds. I'm gonna shut up but I just.....wow.

That one rap song (can't remember which one) that samples "Crazy Train" will propably kill Ozzy when he hears it and then he'll roll over in his grave.

I'm not sure if Dobie Gray is dead, but Uncle Kracker's cover of "Drift Away" is utterly painful.
I sat all day thinking about this, and could not place the song, and as I checked my email about 2 minutes ago the chorus popped into my head.
I feel stupid, after a bunch of misdirected searches for songs with the word "roll" (thinking maybe roll away) and "Papa Roach"

I loved that cover. Then again, I never gave a shit about John Lennon.

Ditto. Maynard has more talent in his pinky fingernail than John Lennon had in his entire body.
I don't know if any of the Public Enemy members are dead, but Duran Duran's cover of "911 is a Joke" is a crime against music.

Duran Duran covered that? This is proving to be quite hillarious.
I think the thread title was talking about artist's who are dead though.

Well of course he's dead and buries. The name of the thread contains the words 'rolling in their grave' so my suggestion seems appropriate.

Maynard having more talent in his pinky fingernail then Lennon? Right...
I'm sure Tool will be treasured in forty-fifty years like The Beatles are. If not them then Perfect Circle for sure.

I've said this before and some people around here dig it, but I would like to see Phil Lynott's (incredibly cool and smooth) ghost slip into James Hetfield's bedroom at night and put a pillow over his face for that execrable Metallica cover of Whiskey In The Jar.

Their cover of Turn The Page actually blows worse, but Seger's still alive, so while he may toss and turn in bed, he's not rolling in his grave.

Like that cover too. I guess in my opinion, their covers breathe life into the older versions.

Neither of those songs need any life breathed into them.
Especially earsplitting, off key, atonal life from James Hetfield's lungs.
It's no big deal, I've just hated Metallica since they were pizza faced kids with only an EP.

Dobie Gray is not dead (or wasn't at the time of the recording of the cover), because he sang on it.
