I love Moulin Rouge to pieces. I thought both she and Ewan McGregor were both outstanding in that. However we rented The Others and finally watched it last night. Wow. She's amazing in The Others and I'm really torn which is a better performance. In fact looking at both together I'd say it proves how versatile she is as an actress.

This has been posted before asking which of Nicole Kidman's outstanding performances in 2001 were better...but I'm going to have to say that her performance in THE OTHERS was better.

Moulin Rouge, by far

In the others everytime she did somehting she started to have a ashma attack. It wasnt that brillent she just started breathing really hard everytime she opened a door, heard a nosie or opened a book.

Damn that's a hard question! While Kidman displayed great range in MOULIN ROUGE (she had to sing, dance, cry, be sexy, be humorous...and then die!)...I still preferred her haunting, focused performance in THE OTHERS (but only slightly)!

THE OTHERS, by far. While I thought she was fine in MOULIN ROUGE, her tightly wound, neurotic performance in THE OTHERS should have been nominated.

Definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, Nicole Kidman in The Others.

I'll have to be the different one here and say I preffered her performance in "Moulin Rouge" because it required more range. Her performance in "The Others" was but a fraction less-better, still managing to be a stunning, brilliant performance.

Though both are outstanding and her beautiful singing voice was perhaps the biggest surprise I had in a cinema last year I have to go with The Others. She was great in Moulin Rouge, but truly oscar worthy in The Others

Nicole Kidman in "Eyes Wide Shut"; wasn't too big a fan of either of her 2001 performances.

MOULIN ROUGE without a second's hesitation. THE OTHERS was good and she was great in it, but MOULIN ROUGE...she was fantastic in that one. I fell in love with her, literally.

The Others

I would say that her character in The Others would be much harder to "get in to" than the one she portrayed in Moulin Rouge. Also, I think that the way she contrasted with the children and the house-cleaners (I don't know what else to call them) was a better match-up than her character opposites in Moulin Rouge.

So The Others is my favorite of the two - and for that matter, in my opinion, the Best NK ending ever.

Both made my top five Best Actress list of the year 2001, but she was better in Moulin Rouge (which made #1 in my book). I can see why someone would say her character in The Others would be harder to "get into" than the one in Moulin Rouge, but I disagree. I think if anybody could play a character like Satine and not make her look too stupid or too annoying should be commended, let alone do as awesome a job as Nicole did.

Anyway, Moulin Rouge wins by a hair.

I'm sure most of you can like her performance in Moulin Rouge! better, but you can't deny that she gave a stronger performance in The Others.

So that is the performance I am choosing (The Others).

Yeah, exactly. I was gonna say the same exact thing...just didn't. Moulin Rouge by a hair, indeed.
