I'm actually looking forward to this movie, despite everyone knocking it and its new director. But I do agree that those pictures look like they're ready to break into an NSYNC-style groove.:D

It’s Cheesy, don’t deny... though I'm still looking forward to seeing the film, I don't think its going to be anything spectacular.

And here I thought this meant that Cyclops and Wolverine would be spending summers up on Brokeback Mountain.

The pics are ok but every pic of the angel kid I see makes me puke. Looks horrible.

If you've picked up a comic book, you'd know that both in appearance and in personality, Ben Foster was excellent casting as Angel, and I think he looks badass. He's been my favorite mutant since about...as long as I've read X-MEN, and I happen to think they did an awesome job.

Although he does look fruity in that pic, not dark and moody, but from the trailer it looks like he's just that.

I feel like simon cowell, but I think they're disgusting. My opinion doesn't relate to the new director, which I wasn't too happy about either, but these Posters just suck ass. Yes, they do look like an NYSNC promo banner.

They just don't fit the movie. When I think of wolverine, I want something kickass, not him leaning up against a wall. WTF

Some of the pics looks A&F meets GOTH probably?
Makes me wonder who the PHOTOGRAPHER is....

Annie Lebowitz?
Bruce Weber?
David LaChapalle? (NOT!) :D

Well the old sayin always goes as third time is the charm?

And can Ratner outdo what Singer brought to us in the first two?

The posters are not cool, but very, very strange instead. Was it absolutely necessary to have the characters' eyes closed? The Wolverine poster is the worst one. It's pathetic. I've read a lot of X-Men comic books in my lifetime, and when I look at Wolverine in that dreadful poster, I don't see Wolverine.

"Take a Stand" is an unbearably cheesy line, if you ask me. The subtitle of X3 - The Last Stand - is terrible and unnecessary as well. It's much worse than X-Men United.

My level of anticipation for X3 is at the same level as this summer's other comic-book film, Superman Returns, non-existent.

I don't think X3 will look as good without Bryan Singer. 'Nuff Said.

James Logan
02-12-2006, 07:48 PM
On the movie -- Brett Ratner isn't that good a director. To me, everything about X3 makes it sound more like a RUSH HOUR 2 quality movie, rather than an X2 quality movie. Fun popcorn, but not gonna be anywhere near the coolest, most bad-ass, most epic superhero movie ever -- which it should be, and might've been if Bryan Singer or a director of his caliber were directing it.

On the posters -- I do agree that they're kind of...weird. The Angel, Storm, Phoenix and Rogue ones are fine, despite the slight cheap-softcore-steambath-porn they give off. But...the Wolverine one -- Wolvie is supposed to be a badass. Why is he leaning in a reflective, emo pose, and...what is that oddly colorful box he's leaning on, yes, the one with all the colors and the stupid logos on it that kills the whole mood of the picture? Who exactly decided to put THAT in there? And the Beast one -- what's with the pupuce colored outfit? So every other X-Man's outfit is slick black leather, but Beast gets a stupid off-purple costume? What?

I hope that's not how it is in the movie. Imagine that -- Wolvie, Rogue, Angel, Colossus, Storm, Iceman. All of them wearing slick black leather. And amongst them -- the hairy blue Frasier guy, in a pupuce suit.

Might just be distracting.

MrPhox
02-12-2006, 10:24 PM
Nah. It wont be that red color. It's the lighting of the picture.

If you go frame by frame near the end of the teaser trailer, you'll see beast in the same generic black with a bit of yellow.

Bleh.

Personally, I think the posters aren't all that bad - for something else. But these are NOT X-Men posters. They absolutely do not fit the movie and as such, they are probably some of the worst promotional material I can think of in the past couple years. Like others have said, the Wolverine one is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, yeah sure, by themselves, I sorta like the posters, but they say absolutely nothing about the movie and seem to go counter to the personalities that we know. Wolverine in a reflective emo state? WTF?!!

I mean, if this was like a love story about mutants or something then I'd understand - but this is supposed to be a big, gutsy, action-packed epic of a comic book movie (and it seems that's what they're going for judging from the name "The Last Stand") - it makes absolutely no sense. In fact, the tagline Take a Stand coupled with the images border on ridiculous. The only remotely alright ones are the Phoenix and Angel ones - the Angel one because he actually looks like he's doing (again tying in with the theme of taking a stand) and the Phoenix one because she looks like she's ready to use her powers...the Beast one is so-so as well but he's not looking very tough. But the other three don't remotely give off the impression of taking a stand". Rogue's looks like she's going to feel herself up any moment, Storm looks like she's gonna fall any moment rather than "take a stand" and Wolverine looks like he's gonna break down and cry.

This is a bad, bad, BAD poster campaign for this movie. The marketing team should be fired. Like I said, if they were selling a mutant love story, these would be effective. But this is an action/thriller epic. WHAT. THE. FUCK.ARE. THEY. THINKING?!!!

bigred760

The posters aren't bad, they're not good, but not bad. I do like the Beast poster - the blue and red looks pretty cool.

The posters don't change the high level of aniticipation I have for this movie - Singer or not.

I think the posters look a little pretentious for a comic book flick. Where is the high octane excitement? These mutants mostly look tired and bored to me. Of course, the crappy teaser posters alone don't make me think this will be a total shitfest-- but I have heard some fanboys are already griping at the scriptment. Ratner may just make a decent X movie yet, but I sincerely doubt it will measure up to what Singer has accomplished already.

MARKETING GUY #1: Ok, well, er...ok. Bryan Singer is gone. He done us good. How can we keep up the continuity of the series, keep the Singer spirit alive, have people still coming in to the movie?
MARKETING GUY #2: Well, er...well. Bryan was gay, wasn't he?
MARKETING GUY #1: Ah-HA! That must've had SOMETHING to do with the success of the previous pictures. Ok, so, er...gay means emo.
MARKETING GUY #2: Right. The previous pictures were emo, that's why they worked. All that symphonic music, and the leather costumes, and the chick dying...very emo.
MARKETING GUY #1: So we make our poster campaign emo! Even Wolverine. Especially Wolverine. I mean, he's the emo-est of them all -- thinking about his past all the time.
MARKETING GUY #2: Right. And we put cheap-70s-gay-porn-like steam in the shots, too. That'll help -- subtly, I think.
MARKETING GUY #1: AAAAAND we put Beast in a pinkish suit. Pupuce, really, more than pinkish, pink is sooo five minutes ago.
MARKETING GUY #2: Brilliant.

The posters suck worse than my mother.

On a serious note, they are really really bad. In a bad way. Wolverine is a rock-hard mother fucker, and there he is leaning against a bin in an angsty feminine way. What a dog turd.

And don't get me started on Beast.

Looks like a safe sex campaign.

I'm not a huge fan of most of those posters and I hate the new title for the movie (X-Men: The Last Stand) but the teaser still made the movie look fairly promising despite Ratner helming it.

Yes, it's a trend I've noticed for a few months now. Being a schmoe for a long time now, I've always loved these boards and found them to be far superior to others. I finaly realized why. Now when you go onto the boards you see titles of threads that have statements and bash a movie. In the F'n title! WTF. The Joblo boards have always been a 'mature' boards from the beginning. Let the statements come out in the thread in your opinions, not the god-damn titles. It's something small, but to me it's a big deal. Idk, maybe I'm just getting old :P

This is the xmen we're talking about, remember? I wonder why they even bother having funerals at Xavier's school for gifted youngsters anymore, sometimes, they come back to life before your even finished putting 'em in the ground. Just look at Jean, she can't make up her mind whether she's alive or dead, she's been killed off and brought back so many times. Also, these are comic books, this is the world of Superman (came back from the dead ten years ago), Jason Todd, Bucky Barnes, Jean Grey, and Kara Zor-el, and, more than that, this is the marvel x-men universe, where all it takes to bring someone back from the dead is for them to walk into the room and say "I got better". Example:

Kitty - but Piotr, you're supposed to be dead, we had a funeral for you, and everything, you're dying to save us all from the legacy virus was the most heroic thing ever.

Piotr (AKA colussus), thinking quickly - yeah....but...I got better.

(you movie fans think I kid, but comic book fans will back me up on how often this actually happens)

Kitty - oh, okay, right.

In comics, the only deaths that are permanement, the only ones that are truly for all-time, are Uncle Ben, Thomas and Martha Wayne, and John and Mary Grayson. Those five people are it, (Ie, the answer to Shockwave's question "how many people stay dead in comics anyway?" Is five). other than that, everyone else is either "alive" or "will be back soon" or "will be back someday".
