Casino Royale director Martin Campbell confirmed on Wednesday that Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (King Arthur) will play the evil Le Chiffre in the 21st James Bond installment.

Campbell, Daniel Craig, Judi Dench and producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli were on-hand at a press conference today at the Czech Republic's Barrandov Studios.
Asked who will play the Bond girl, Campbell revealed the choice is now down to "two or three" but added "you'll just have to wait to find out." Eva Green and Olivia Wilde are thought to be the finalists.
Variety says audiences will see more insight into M's (Dench) back story than they ever have to date in the film with a scene set in her London apartment, constructed in modernist beige by Barrandov, complete with Asian art and Tanqueray gin cocktail service.
Bond himself will show his more sensitive side, said Campbell, in that the film, based on the first of Ian Fleming's Bond books, reveals how he became "the Bond we all know and love."
The cast and crew jet off to the Bahamas shortly to shoot a chase sequence at seaside construction site, then will be back to Prague for studio and location work, and Italy and the U.K.'s Pinewood.

Dunno who he is.
Let's see how he'll do. Would have prefered Jean Reno however.

His name is familiar, though I can't recall any of the films he's been in.
I like the fact that they're introducing somebody relatively unknown to American audiences.

I've never heard of him, but hell - most of the time I don't recognize the people they cast in these movies. I'm pretty sure I'd never heard of Sean Bean before Goldeneye.

Exactly man, Sean Bean was a nobody at the time when Goldeneye came out. The only big thing he had done was Ronin at the time. I have full confidence in Martin Campbell as Goldeneye remains my favourite Pierce Brosnan 007 film ever.
(They should cast Natalie Portman as the Bond girl! Only in my dreams!)

Actually, I believe Ronin (1998) came after Goldeneye (1995), but Patriot Games came beforehand.

hopefully the guy is good in this, instead of simply forgettable. I'm always up for new talent as long as that talent is worthy

Please let it be Eva Green.
And I agree Goldeneye is the best Bond film, it had the perfect amount of disbelief without going over the top like all the subsequent films have.

Felix Leiter and Vesper Lynd Cast Too...

Source: MGM, Sony Pictures February 16, 2006
It was announced today by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc, and Sony Pictures Entertainment that Eva Green has been cast to play the enticing Vesper Lynd opposite Daniel Craig in his debut appearance as James Bond in the highly anticipated 007 adventure thriller, Casino Royale.
It was also announced that Jeffrey Wright has joined the cast as Felix Leiter. Yesterday, the studio confirmed that renowned Danish-born actor Mads Mikkelsen has accepted the role of Le Chiffre, Bond's nemesis in the film and
Casino Royale reunites Wilson and Broccoli with Martin Campbell, who directed the 1995 blockbuster GoldenEye, and will be the 21st James Bond film produced by the franchise holders, EON Productions. The MGM/Columbia Pictures production began shooting in January this year and will be released worldwide on November 17. It will be filmed on location in the Czech Republic, the Bahamas, Italy and the UK.
Wilson and Broccoli said, "We are thrilled that Eva and Mads have joined the cast of 'Casino Royale' completing a first rate international cast. They bring exceptional talent to the characters Ian Fleming described so vividly in his first James Bond novel.
After an extensive search we have found the perfect actress. Eva is one of France's most accomplished young actresses, now receiving international acclaim. She brings to the complex role of Vesper an exciting combination of enigmatic and seductive beauty.
Likewise Mads has such a compelling onscreen presence and his riveting performances in 'Open Hearts' and 'Adam's Apples' convinced both us and director Martin Campbell that he was ideal for the role of Le Chiffre."

Don't know much about the guy they cast as the villain, but the other two are talented actors so I'm encouraged about the next 007 movie.

I thought everyone would know who Eva Green is 'cause she was in Kingdom of Heaven but seems like I was wrong.
And Mads Mikkelsen was that kinda-samurai-way-Tristan in King Arthur.
Sean Bean was in two big movies before GoldenEye; Patriot Games and Black Beauty.

I don't mind the choice of Eva Green as Vesper Lynd, but I believe that once in a while they should actually cast actors and actresses of the same nationality as the characters they play. Frenchwoman playing a Russian; we'll see how that goes.

I agree as well but a lot of actors and actresses with enough talent can immitate an accent pretty well. A good example for Bond is Izabella Scorupco and Famke Janssen as the Russian babes from Goldeneye. They're not Russian but they did it very well.

Well, be happy they didn't cast any of the American contenders for the role.
