This is the new album from the Danielson Famile. They are known for working with Sufjan Stevens on Michigan and Seven Swans. Their new album got leaked out, and it will definitely get noticed this year. The first listen on the album hooked me in right away. This album is plain awesome and "Did You Step On My Trumpet" will probably be one of the catchiest songs this year. It won't be officially released for a while I think, but when it does you should all definitely check it out.

If you want to listen to the single on the album "Did You Step on my Trumpet" go to their myspace and give it a listen. It's a great song.

I got the cd, but I'm not actually that much of a fan.

I really enjoyed that song on the myspace page. Really catchy tune. :)
The singer kind of gave off an Arcade Fire vibe.

I downloaded this. It fucking sucks. Same old 'cute' and 'quirky' crap that the indie scene has been choking on for years.

It has a 79 on Metacritic right now which is good considering not many people have reviewed it.

He's been doing this for over one decade, so he's been doing this 'quirky' crap when it started getting bigger.

I disagree. I felt the same way when I first listened to it, but on repeated listenings it sounds more like a Syd Barrett quirky--cute on the surface but underneath it has a very paranoid, almost eerie feeling.

I like it a lot.

I'm going to give it another shot. If I still don't like it, I will take your life.

It definitely depends on your mindset when listening. If you're looking for hidden Barrett-like creepiness you'll probably find it. On the fifth careful listening it sounds like an acid trip to me--both pleasurable and an undercurrent of being intensely frightened and mentally contorted. Maybe I'm looking too much into it.
