It looks good, but not something I have to see at this instant. And what's with that horrible line 'and what if they come through the back door or the window like that infamous beatles song.'

Holy shit man, thanks a lot for the link!

That was amazing! It really has me hooked and interested. The visuals are so original and cool to watch. I'm really looking forward to this, and that trailer sealed me in.

just saw this (thanks, darkface).

this is so awesome. I think people will go see this just on the basis of the look of it. That alone is worth a price of admission. This is just like the T2 effects at the time. Same here, in our time.

I've never seen anything done like it before, in any film. I know that Linklater made a movie before using this technology, but this one is going mainstream and going BIG. So this counts more.

I cant wait to see this. I remember seeing this trailer last year and was excited then. I'm even more excited now.

Before Sunset was such a good movie. By the way, how did you do that.

Hehe..Could've fooled me, wait a minute, you did. Never did see Waking Life...I'm guessing Linklater used the same format in Waking Life as he is doing in A Scanner Darkly.

No, thats from the movie Waking Life, that technology is used there.

But you can do that in Photoshop, 1, 2, 3. Piece of cake.

Ahhh...cool. Sorry to have edited my post on you. It suddenly dawned on me that Linklater might have used the same format in Waking Life.

Oh yeah, I really don't see the need for the entire look of the film. It's just giving that comic book feel to it but it reminds me of the stage play in Dogville. Not very necessary. Hopefully Linklater will prove me wrong on that (I like Linklater, I just am not excited about this movie).

Looks amazing. Linklater is one of my favorite directors, and I can't wait to see this.

I don't know about the whole cartoon-over-live-action way of shooting. It looks interesting but this trailer does not show you anything about what this movie is about. It doesn't look like anything more than a gawk-fest of eye candy. However in saying that, I am a big fan of Phil Dick's works (Minority Report, Blade Rinner etc) so this will probably be an intriguing movie.

I think the choice of animation is perfect considering the story and characters. It doesn't feel at all like Linklater is using that technique simply because it looks cool. I think he wants to show how Substance D addicts see the world without having to resort to CGI (ala Terry Gilliam in Fear and Loathing...). As a big fan of the book, I can't wait to see this puppy hit the screen more than anything else this year. It looks like Linklater was the perfect choice to direct this story.

Can anyone tell me the song that is used in this trailer. It's towards the end with a keyboard type sound. Thx in advance.

I liked Waking Life for the most part and I've always been a fan Linklater for the most part so I'll check it out for the most part...

Linklater is hit and miss with his films for me. Dazed and Confused is a classic and a movie that never seems to lose its entertainment value. Waking Life however is one of the most boring and pretentious pieces of "art" I have ever seen. Pure garbage. I picked up the DVD in a $5 bargain bin at Best Buy and have owned it for over two years now, and to this day I still haven't gotten past the halfway point of the movie without turning it off or falling asleep.

I hope A Scanner Darky actually has a plot to compensate the visuals, unlike Waking Life.

I actually saw A Scanner Darkly at an early screening here in Phoenix. It's a pretty sweet movie and the animation in the movie is amazing. The only thing wrong with the whole movie was that the plot was really slow. It's a great plot, don't get me wrong, but it just seemed to drag on and ended really weird. Of course, this screening was subject to change before the release because they hadn't worked all the kinks out of it yet. But overall, it was definitely an entertaining movie.

Whoa whoa whoa, I'm in phoenix, where did you see it at, and is it still playing?

I saw it at the Centerpoint 11 Harkins theatre on Mill and Univ. It was only a one night showing to about 150 people. My girlfriend and I were at another movie and some promoters for A Scanner Darkly gave us tickets to go. It was pretty sweet, though.

Yeah, I wasn’t able to attend that screening at Centerpoint but a few of my friends were, they didn't like it at all. To quote one of them, “40% of the movie could have been, and should have been cut... and though, at times, funny, and visually appealing, it aint anything special.”

kbooth311

In a way I would agree with the 40% cut out. There was a lot that kind of dragged on and on, but overall the animation was excellent. Another thing they could have cut out was Wynona Ryder altogether. She didn't seem to "steal" any of the scenes.
