Fernando Meirelles' follow up to City of God and The Constant Gardener will be a multi-plot affair about the effects of globalization that he's calling Intolerance : The Sequel. Apparantly it'll have multiple storylines set all around the world, spoken in several languages. He's hoping to get this in production this summer, or as soon as he's finished the script.

Sounds extremely interesting, and after the last two brilliant films of his I'll see anything he does. I'm glad he's not selling out his talent and doing crappy comic-book actioners (I'm looking you, Ang Lee) or some Hollywood bullshit like that, but rather staying with what he feels is important and what he does best. Definitely on the top of my list of upcoming films I'm most looking forward to.

Sounds great this guy is the real deal. I totally agree and hope he continues to do challenging and dare I say important films.

Sounds very promising. Big fan of both City of God and The Constant Gardener. Though I wouldn't call Ang Lee a sellout for directing Hulk - personally, I think he saw something in the comic book that intrigued him and he probably thought he could bring something new to the table (which he did, with some interesting devices to bring the comic bookish aspect of the film to the forefront more) - whether he was successful or not at doing that is a whole other thing. And I don't think anyone would say Nolan sold out for doing the Batman movie...or Singer for X-Men after Usual Suspects and Apt Pupil...

Besides, why can't the best directors have a little fun and do some just purely fun flicks once in a while? I mean, it's not like Ang Lee continued to do popcorn flicks for the rest of his career after Hulk (seeing as we've got Brokeback Mountain this year).

But back to Meirelles - I love his distinctive style and the power of his films. And City of God and Constant Gardener were different but fantastic in their own rights - City of God as an epic, Constant Gardener as a more emotional activist love story. And seeing as I love multiple storyline movies, I'm definitely interested in how this project develops.

Yes, obviously I'm not really calling Ang Lee a sellout for doing the Hulk. Just a little jab at him for straying from his usual niche to do a huge Hollywood B-movie that's generally regarded a failure. I do see it as slightly frustrating that these wonderfully talented filmmakers, such as the ones you mentioned are going for the big money and the big franchises...As much as I enjoyed X2 or Batman Begins, I'd much rather see these guys making more Brokeback Mountains or The Usual Suspects or Mementos. But that's just personal preference, and obviously Nolan for one is able to juggle them pretty well.

Totally off topic, sorry about that.

City of God is THE movie of the 00s. I can't wait for this one.
